I'm following, but am only able to watch the weekend games due to school. I'm an avid fan of the World Championships (ANY national hockey is awesome), and this years are fun to follow. I would MUCH rather Canada go with the Spengler Cup team (minus the couple AHLers they had), but what can you do?

Like I say sahyder, it is a new owner. News: Mike Modano has been confirmed as the captain for one of the teams. He will pick his players in April.

Why?

WHA originally came back with the plan that they'd be operating this season, but that owner sucked shit. A new owner is in, and they plan on starting in the 2005/06 season. Before that, they have Phil Esposito (sp?) running a tournament similar to the World Cup. Each player will receive $20,000 with the winning team splitting $2-million. Only problem IMO is that games will be held in two cities, so there will be no "home" team. Old WHA jerseys will be worn. Because of the huge snowstorm, the football (I think) arena in Grand Forks was lent for free to Canadians who can't drive home - the border is closed. Glad they are playing it safe. Jerichoholic - the arena is full on the game right now. EDIT - Lots of hockey insiders (The Hockey News is my main one, but others mentioned it) said USA need their goalie to play phenominal in the games that matter, and unless that happens they have no chance.

I am watching the Canada\Finland game right now - it is 2-0 for Canada in the first intermission. Dominating performance again, but the Fins look pretty strong in comparison to other teams. Anywho, in the intermission it is also 1-0 Russia over Switzerland. Should the Swiss win and USA/CZE game to to a tie, Russia is eliminated! However, if Russia and Czech Republic win, then Russia gets first. Pretty interesting how one team can get first or not even go for a medal!

This tournament wasn't even broadcasted on TV in USA last year, right? Just wondering... Yeah, I have to agree with TSN for USA to win Gold, they need Montoya to step up. He hasn't so far. But I'd also say for Canada to win Gold, they need Glass/Beauchmen (sp?) to steph up, or else it will be the same fate as the last seven years. EDIT - Watching CZE -v- SUI right now. Swiss have a two man advantage and are down one nothing. Just for 30 seconds, but should be interesting. I think these guys are the cinderella story if they win this game, I wouldn't doubt better than fifth place. EDIT 2 - They hit the post.

I actually thought that was such a good deal to save the season. Players meet with Owners on Tuesday for a counter offer. 24% rollback is good, but in a way I agree with the owners, and with the players too. I'm 50/50, so I'm excited for Tuesday.

Just want to know how many Canadians like the CFL and if any are going to the Grey Cup in Ottawa. EDIT - Go Roughriders!

Best game of the tournament for sure. Luongo rocked. A couple questionable goals, but hell if I care. Hockey Central guys said it best - "If Canada faces Finland in the finals, its the two teams who cared most about this tournament in the finals."

Interesting game tonight - Martin Brodeur, injured scratch. Roberto Luongo gets the nod for Canada against the Czech's.

Wow I am surprised that Russia is still good. Esche is now an official God after this game. He faced like 50 shots. Bryzgalov (sp?) played well and had a good game. Good thing for the Americans (unless Dipietro & Conklin would have played this well ) that Esche was allowed to play because of his knee... I enjoyed the game. Kevin

Canada vs. Russia - read my sig, its somewhere there Finland 3 - Germany 0, Kipper gets another shut out. He made some good saves for what I saw.

I definately liked it... and a great game game for Esche and Brodeur both. Esche kept USA in the whole game while Brodeur had some big saves on the PK on the 2nd. Very excited for it.

Plus - they can lose the first three games and win the tournament. Doesn't really matter if they play USA in the quarters or finals - they're still gonna win
