  1. I don't think that second loss to Page was any fluke. People don't give enough credit to Jackson's hands and Chuck's stance just begs for him to be caught with something sweet. He's just mastered his counter striking style so well that he can usually avoid those dangerous shots.
  2. Jackson vs. Griffin will take place in July. That's a brainfart on my behalf, I thought the TUF Finale was July 21st.
  3. I love the Japanese announcer's reactions, yelling "MIRKO DOWN!" and "DONKEY KONG!"
  4. Just the thought of Alan Faneca playing for the Jets makes me sad. The thought of Faneca on anybody but Pittsburgh's O-line makes me sad, actually.
  5. I like Godfatha's favorite moment thing. I'd say when Randleman KTFO Cro Cop. One of the most electric moments I can remember. Nobody expected that. The audio on this flash videos is always of shit quality, but this is one of the loudest crowd reactions ever. The first part is just them clinch against the ropes, so skip to around the 2:40 mark. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1k3bb_pr...randleman_sport
  6. I don't think this needs to be in spoilers. I don't know how anybody can argue that Mark Coleman vs. Brock Lesnar shouldn't co-main event a PPV. It's going to be another huge draw for sure and that's already underneath LHW title fight between Page and Forrest. A lot of fans don't understand how business works.
  7. How long have you watched MMA: 1997, but my PPV didn't carry it for that long and it was a loooong time before I could track it down again. My cousin had one of those huge satellites, he used to get them all the time so if the odd time I was at his house when it was on, I'd watch, but I that wasn't often, and eventually I stopped watching it completely until 2002 when I managed to catch UFC 37.5. They showed it on TSN on tape delay, IIRC. How often do you watch it: Often. If I have access to it, I'll watch it. What interested you in the sport intially (an aspect of it, a fight, a fighter, etc): The first fight I saw was Tank Abbott vs. Vitor Belfort and I was intrigued when the small Belfort demolished the much larger Tank. When I watched UFC 37.5, it drew me because of Vitor and the fact it was on TV. Then I got on the internet the next day, searched for anything and everything to do with UFC and the rest is history. What MMA promotions you watch/have watched: UFC, PRIDE, FEG promoted shows, WEC, Strikeforce, EXC, IFL would be the most common ones, but I'll watch whatever I can find. First fight and/or event viewed (that you can remember): Tank Abbot vs. Vitor Belfort from UFC 13 is the first fight I saw, I didn't see the whole thing, though. I remember UFC 15 with Randy and Vitor being the first full card of UFC I ever watched. Last fight and/or event viewed: WEC 32 EDIT: I forgot I watched bodog on Thursday Favorite fighter (that you support or just enjoy watching): GSP, Chucky, Wandy, Evan Tanner, Vitor Belfort, Shinya Aoki, Sakuraba, Carlos Newton, Josh Barnett, Yves Edwards, Mark Hunt Least favorite fighter: The only one I can't stand is Koscheck, but for some reason I find myself always rooting against any MFS products. Not sure why. Favorite fight: Rizzo vs. Couture I, Ninja vs. Mario Sperry, Shogun vs. Lil' Nog, Silva vs. Yoshida I and II, Karo vs. Diego, Yves Edwards vs. Hermes Franca, Carlos Newton vs. Sakuraba, Huerta vs. Guida Favorite event: UFC 47 and Final Conflict 2003 Favorite knockout: Not a pure KO as the ref took his sweet ass time to stop it, but Yves Edwards flying head kick on Josh Thomson... Josh was KTFO instantly. Favorite submission: Carlos Newton's sick armbar on Pele Landi-Jons at Bad Blood #1 Pound for Pound Fighter based on wins (in your opinion): Anderson Silva #1 Pound for Pound fighter based on skill: Fedor Emelianenko Most overrated fighter: Honestly, Tim Sylvia. Most underrated fighter: Hidehiko Yoshida
  8. 1. Middleweight unification bout - UFC Middleweight Championship vs. PRIDE Welterweight Championship: Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson 2. Heath Herring vs. Cheick Kongo - I love Heath, he's the more talented fighter (probably the second most wasted potential in MMA), but he never fights with any gameplan, he seems to just want to stand and bang. Kongo by same outcome as his win over Cro Cop. 3. Evan Tanner vs. Yushin Okami - Evan Tanner works way too hard to let Okami toy with him like Okami does in his other fights 4. Josh Koscheck vs. Dustin Hazelett 5. Diego Sanchez vs. David Bielkheden 6. Andrei Arlovski vs. Jake O'Brien - I'm picking this as the upset special of the night, O'Brien by decision 7. Chris Leben vs. Alessio Sakara 8. Jon Fitch vs. Chris Wilson - Though Wilson isn't going to lay down for Fitch, he's one of the better lesser known guys out there 9. Jorge Gurgel vs. John Halverson 10. Luke Cummo vs. Luigi Fioravanti - IMO, Cummo the most underrated fighter to come out of any season of TUF. Luigi is a nice test for him.
  9. I'm so excited to see Evan Tanner back. Okami was talking about how American fighters have no heart, he'll most likely change his mind after going at it with Tanner. Honestly, I have a feeling this is going to be one of the more forgettable UFC cards. Aside from the main event of course, which is fucking huge. Herring was one of my favorites when I started to get into Pride, so I'm always rooting for him. But Kongo seems to be the blackhole of excitement and is huge and fucking imposing as shit. Herring hasn't exactly set the world on fire this last few years either. Dustin Hazelett went into the weigh in wearing a shirt saying he wasn't Jon Fitch and to stop asking if he was, which I found hilarious and makes me want to root for him over Kos even more. Judge for yourself Fitch Dustin Maybe not the best shots for comparision, but they do look quite similar. Plus, it's not a bad time to be Fitch. In the "Baddest Man" thread, I stated how I think the main event fight will go down.
  10. The past few years the rise of the sport of mixed martial arts has grown by lengths even hardcore fans truly didn't expect. One thing that irks me is the resentment some longtime fans have for it's newfound exposure. Like most fans of something that isn't mainstream, when it hits big, they feel like they've had something stolen from them and feel robbed of their uniqueness. For the most part, I call that total bullshit. I love the fact that MMA is getting bigger and there more fans, as well as media outlets supporting it. Are some new fans hard to listen to or do my eyes bleed when reading their opinions? Yeah, but I find that new fans will slowly (or even quickly) become more informed as they continue to watch and learn. Besides, there are a ton of longtime fans that claim to have been watching forever who's thoughts and opinions are as thought provoking as watching a horse take a large, steaming, shit. Anyways, it seems like not to long ago only a handful of folks on this board watched, but I notice there more fans than ever now that there is more exposure and more discussion on EWB. Still, there isn't enough discussion that I know what people like in the sport. I'm bored and curious, so I've thrown to this simple questionnaire for fans of all types on this board, no judgement. Hardcore or casual, go for it. I'm not an elitist, it's a questionnaire, not a test. These aren't in depth questions or anything, simple and easy. Some questions might be a little broad for casual fans who don't follow the sport as much as others, so answering everything isn't a necessity. Also, to avoid putting an 's' in brackets for almost every question, go nuts, list as many answers as you want. How long have you watched MMA: How often do you watch it: What interested you in the sport intially (an aspect of it, a fight, a fighter, etc) What MMA promotions you watch/have watched: First fight and/or event viewed (that you can remember): Last fight and/or event viewed: Favorite fighter (that you support or just enjoy watching): Least favorite fighter: Favorite fight: Favorite event: Favorite knockout: Favorite submission: #1 Pound for Pound Fighter based on wins (in your opinion): #1 Pound for Pound fighter based on skill: Most overrated fighter: Most underrated fighter: That's all I can think for basic questions or questions that don't require in depth answers. Maybe I'll do another one with fewer questions and deeper answers another time or if somebody else wants to, go ahead.
  11. Chuck has been one of my favorite fighters for a while now, his fight with Vitor Belfort was the fight that got me back into MMA after not watching since it was taken of PPV years ago. So I'm always biased for the Iceman. I think I've stated my take on him a million times on this board alone and I'm exhausted from playing hockey tonight, so I'll just cut and paste some various posts of mine regarding Chucky.
  12. Silva's sub defense is arguably his weakness, but the thing about the heelhook wasn't necessarily Silva's lack sub defense, it was flawless execution, the perfect timing, the unexpectedness. Personally, I think Chonan had that fight in the bag regardless, he just went for broke with the flying heelhook. If it didn't work, it could have possibly been the biggest gaff (or is it gaffe?) in MMA history, because I truly believe Chonan was en route to winning the decision and if Silva could have avoided that heelhook, he could have easily had Chonan in a horrible position. But yeah, flawlessly executed. I think Hendo can be the guy to impose his will on Silva on the ground and pound him for a surprisingly dominant TKO victory. That being said, I can equally see Hendo grinding out his usual decision win.
  13. For a second I was going to shake my head because I was expecting this article to about Kimbo Slice. It's a nice article. Anderson has never experienced wrestling like Hendo's, he hasn't experienced raw strength like his, nor has he fought somebody who is harder to finish than Hendo. Hendo's record isn't unblemished, but I'll be damned if he doesn't have the tools to be the perfect fighter, IMO. Dan's biggest downfall is he's been known to coast through fights, even when he is not winning, and has had a tendency to come in with a pretty one dimensional game plan, or at least it can sometimes look that way. He's been criticized for not trying to finish fights and let it go to the judges (I'm not saying it's his game plan by choice, but it often seems to go that way), earning him the nickname "Decision Dan". Of course nobody would say this to his face, but that's what fans and writers a like would call him. Besides that, Dan is probably the most durable fighter out there, as well as being one of the most intelligent in dangerous situations. His wrestling is ridiculous. If Silva's plum clinch is most dangerous in MMA, Hendo's double underhook is every bit as effective as it. If Hendo can avoid the thai clinch, get double unders, he'll be able to ragdoll Silva to the mat and should be able to keep him there. Hendo's success is going to rely on what he can do from there, avoiding as much time on the feet as possible. Hendo does NOT want to stand with Silva. I might as well give my two cents on Anderson while I'm at it. Silva's dominance or earning himself the tag of "baddest man" status is helped a lot by some nice timing. With MMA, UFC in particular, being at an all-time high and Silva making his solid case for being #1 fighter in the planed, he is definitely one of the "it" fighters in all of combat sports right now. There have been more dominant fighters before Anderson's period of success, just not with the same exposure as him. Anderson is in MMA elite fighter's paradise with the exposure the sport is getting and being hot at this time is proving to come up in aces for him. There are fighters in their own time that have been more of a force than him. You think about Wanderlei Silva coming in now and coming off three straight losses, but this was a guy that won 16 straight fights (that's off of my head, give or take one). And he did it beating guys like Sakuraba (x3), Hendo, Yoshida, Rampage (x2), plus many other capable fighters like Tamura, Kondo and Mezger, before losing to a guy with 60 pounds on him. I could only imagine the type of hype Wandy would be getting if he did this in the UFC while they were white hot like Anderson. I think Anderson is the best fighter in the world right now based on wins and opponents, but the one thing about a lot of folks who follow the sport is they can lose faith in fighters way too quickly. If Anderson loses this fight, then the next one, they'll just easily find any other "bad man". Just ask Shogun. EDIT: Yes, I know I suck at common grammar and spelling sometimes, I type a mile a minute and fear proofreading.
  14. I saw Equilibrium in high school. Everybody was telling me how mind blowing it was and I had to see it. I liked it, I'd watch it again, but the people who pimped it to me, overpimped it. Still, it's worth watching at least once. My pimp is for the film Cop Land. Plot summary stolen from IMDB, because they give it a better description than I probably could.
  15. Pretty much everything that comes out of the kid in the wheelchair in Rumble in the Bronx. The corny lines mixed with voice dubbing is tremendous.
  16. The MMA schedule for March. Stolen from MMAWeekly.com, so all rankings are from them.
  17. I think a pre-playoff roundtable discussion at the very least would be rocketbustah.
