  1. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Monday_night_wars_ratings.gif

This shows a graph of the ratings of the Monday Night Wars. Looking at this, I would say that the "peak" of the wars would have been between March 08 and December 08, that would be right around the rise of Austin 3:16 and D-Generation X's best known cast of characters (HHH, X-Pac, Road Dogg, Mr. Ass, Chyna)

As far as ECW goes, I'd say the second half of '97 seems to be the time frame that the most buzz was around the original incarnation of ECW (pre-Invasion angle)

I don't even remember Austin, X-Pac, Road Dogg, Mr. Ass or Chyna even being around during that time period. :P

  2. Just goes to show that you never know what might lead to your own demise. What probably seemed like routine surgery ends up having fatal consequences. She was definitely a legend in the entertainment business and she will be missed. We're certainly losing some good ones lately. :(

  3. Gutted by this news, no disrespect to anyone else who has passed recently, but this has to be up there as one of the most shocking unbelievable celebrity deaths in several years (probably since Michael Jackson)

The guy could be a laugh riot and he could also be a serious dramatic actor, he had such great range. Don't know what else to say, still coming to grips with it.

RIP Robin, so many great roles you made your own, you'll be deeply missed :crying:

  4. Yea, I'm glad Community got 5 seasons, wish it had one more (and a movie), but at least it got to finish out all 13 episodes and didn't just stop airing like some shows mid-way through the season. The finale wasn't the best way to go out, but it was decent enough (besides what more could they possibly do at Greendale?) They did well without Chevy Chase, but losing Donald Glover was a big blow. Frankly though, Community was too good for NBC (they have what, 2 comedies left now, yet again?). I never got into Big Bang Theory, but a lot of people seem to watch it, so I think Community might've fared better on another night when it wasn't in direct competition with the #1 rated comedy on TV. Maybe NBC should just give up on trying to have successful comedies on Thursday nights for a while, cause once Parks & Recreation is done, they won't really have much to speak for on the comedy side and nothing's going to fare well against BBT for at least a couple more years. Just sucks that a creative show like Community only gets 5 seasons while crap like Two & a Half Men gets a 12th season.

  5. HIMYM

I don't understand how anyone didn't see that ending coming at least 5 episodes ago when Ted and The Mother are at the Farhampton inn and Ted breaksdown when The Mother talking about Robin's mother turning up with something along the line of "What mother is gonna miss her daughter's wedding?" Its been obvious for bloody weeks!

It was more of an in-denial because of how bad of a decision that could be...Yes, many people were predicting the mother was dead in the future, especially after the episode Vesuvius, but it got to the point where many people (including me) had our expectations for the finale lowered so much that we'd have just been happy if the mother was alive in the future and we as fans of the show got the happy ending for Ted and the Mother after 9 seasons of build-up...but nope, they couldn't even do that. Such a let down

I guess I got my hopes up that the mother wasn't dead all along. Just seemed like they could've ended the show 2-3 seasons ago if it was going to be Ted and Robin again, instead of wasting 2 seasons on Robin and Barney when it doesn't work out and on telling us all the reasons Ted and Robin wouldn't work and having several episodes dedicated to Ted getting over her. We didn't get more than a glimpse of Ted with Tracy. We got more development of Ted with Stella or Victoria than we did of Ted with the actual mother of his children. They literally went from them getting married, to she's sick, to here's how I first met her, all in the span of like 3 minutes. His meeting her was supposed to be this big pivotal moment, they shouldn't have waited until the last 5 minutes of the finale to show that for one thing, but they also can't put this big moment right after insinuating that she died, that just takes away from the moment of meeting her after making such a sad revelation. I'm not saying I won't enjoy HIMYM reruns now, but the big mystery that hung over the show isn't as intriguing now that we know that the mother really didn't seem like a major factor, at least to the audience watching at home. Seinfeld had a disappointing finale, but it didn't have a clear endgame set up from the beginning, so you could still enjoy all the other self-contained episodes. How I Met Your Mother had all these clues spread out about how he met her, had the mother meet each of his friends individually, and it feels like it didn't amount to much more than a distraction until Ted and Robin are both available again.

Yea, in the story this all happened over the course of a decade or so, but for us watching at home, it was being hit with too many life-changing moments in 3 minutes. As for the Vesuvius episode, I honestly hoped that they were referencing somebody else that would miss their daughter's wedding (like maybe Ted's mother wouldn't be around for his sister's wedding or something). I guess maybe I'm old-fashioned or something, but I just wanted that happy ending, I don't care if its realistic, its a TV show, a sitcom especially, its meant to be an escape from everyday life, not a reminder of it. I guess I just don't like to see any character in a comedy die off-screen, whether it was Dan from Roseanne, Kevin's dad from the Wonder Years, Susan from Seinfeld or even Pierce from Community. Yea, we only really saw the mother during a few episodes of the last season, but she was referenced plenty of times before that, so it felt like a bigger loss than how it was treated.

  6. I still don't know how I feel about it entirely. I only really started watching it regularly over the last 3 seasons, but I've caught up on some of the earlier episodes since then. If you were one who wanted Ted and Robin to end up together, I guess you got your wish and it brings things full circle like Ross and Rachel ending up together at the end of Friends, but at least that made sense in the story they were telling. But they built up this whole series about how he met the mother (you know the title of the show), how it wasn't supposed to be Robin all along, but someone else, and the last few episodes were about Ted finally letting go of Robin and getting closure there. I guess they couldn't call the show How I Met Your Aunt Robin and then 8 Years Later Met Your Mother Before She Died and I Got Together with Robin again, but still.....

After a happy wedding to end last week's show, that ends in divorce 20 minutes in, Robin falls out of the group for a while and Barney has a kid with a random girl. Ted finds happiness with the mother, and they get married after 5 years...... but oh no, sorry she dies a couple years later, so here's Robin again. If they wanted it to be Robin all along, don't built up all this anticipation for the mother when she had a pretty minor role all along in the story. Though its kind of the opposite and kind of the same outcome, this would be like Friends building up all those years that Ross was in love with Rachel, then in the finale, he gets together with Phoebe instead (or Rachel got together with Joey, which people hated when they tried that). Yeah, Ted still had feelings for Robin all these years, but it was built up that he had to get over her and meet someone he had even more in common with and it would be different that the obvious outcome of Friends, but nah just kidding, Ted ends up with Robin anyway.

Though they were obviously two vastly different stories in different genres, the concept of there being a mystery that gets solved in the finale is like a show mentioned earlier in this thread, Monk. So imagine after all the buildup if they had Monk or someone else in the core group end up being the one who killed his wife. It would be a disappointing conclusion to a question that hung over the entire series. I was happy with the way Monk ended for the record, but I had my fears that they would do something stupid with it like have Stottlemeyer be behind it. Fortunately that didn't happen, but that's kind of how I would've felt if they did that. This felt like a cop-out. After everyone else had met the mother, and hit it off with her, Ted meets Tracy at the train station, they even have the same initials, then hit it off, get married, have kids......then she dies and he goes to Robin yet again. *sigh*

Well I guess I'm happy Marshall and Lily's stories ended up fine at least and I don't hate that Barney went back to being a playboy type (he's like Sam Malone from Cheers, you kind of expected him not to be in a relationship for long). But after spending all season telling every intricate detail of a 3-day weekend, it felt rushed getting through so many important stories in the 17 years afterwards with only an hour.

So I guess overall, I did find it to be a let-down. (I wanted Ted to be with Victoria honestly) Did we ever find out about the pineapple incident anyway?

  7. Sounds like it could be a good show, just hope Bill stays in good health for a long time to come so this doesn't end like Redd Foxx coming back for a show in the early 90's and dying after a few episodes. Also hope this doesn't cause Community getting bumped off the schedule again.
