Segment 1: Intercontinental Title Situation

(2 Minutes)

RAW kicked off with Eric Bischoff standing backstage, looking at the camera. After receiving a round of jeers from the crowd merely for his presence, the GM proceeded to explain the situation of the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Bischoff reminded us how it became vacant and then announced that a fatal four-way match would take place at Unforgiven for the belt. To decide who would go into the match, there would be four qualification matches, two this week and two next week. The winners of those matches will be entered in the four-way at Unforgiven for a chance to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Overall Rating = 77.4%

Segment 2: Singles Match

Val Venis vs. Carlito

(9 Minutes)

Lilian Garcia announced before the match that the winner of the following match would wrestle at Unforgiven for the Intercontinental Championship.

Val Venis dominated Carlito in the early going, driving his adversary to the mat with slams and suplexes. Carlito turned the momentum in his favour soon enough with a poke to the eye of his opponent. Carlito went to work, wearing down Venis' back with a couple of kicks to the spine and a backbreaker, which was cleverly turned into a submission move. Val battled back with the crowd on his side and dropped Carlito to the mat with a big sidewalk slam. Venis began to feel it and drove his knee into Carlito's mid-section twice after coming off of the ropes. The veteran followed up with a big body slam before climbing to the top rope. Venis' climb to the top was slower than usual due to Carlito's work on his back. Venis made it to the top, but was cut off by his opponent. Carlito hammered away on Val and connected with a superplex. Both combatants fought to their feet, but Venis got caught in a small package, Carlito grabbing onto the ropes with his feet at the same time. The referee counted the 3, unaware of the cheating from Carlito. Carlito left the ring with a smile on his face, knowing he would have a chance to become Intercontinental Champion on September 18th.

Winner: Carlito

Segment 3: Smackdown! Rebound

(3 Minutes)

The Smackdown! Rebound was shown, highlighting the situation of who would be the number one contender to John Cena's WWE Championship. Eddie Guerrero, Christian, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels were all shown staking their claims for the spot. Also shown was Theodore Long announcing that The Rock would return next week to face JBL in a No Holds Barred match!

Overall Rating = 82.5%

Segment 4: Of Course They're Going To Win

(6 Minutes)

Maria was standing by backstage, ready to interview Chris Benoit and Edge. Maria asked Edge if he and Benoit were going to win tonight. Edge replied, saying that it was obvious they were going to win. Benoit then said that he and Edge have been on the same page before, and they've also been at each other's throats before, but tonight they had individual tasks to take care of, and if they had to team up to do them, then so be it. Benoit guaranteed someone would be tapping out tonight.

Overall Rating = 70.0%

Segment 5: Singles Match

WWE Women's Championship

Trish Stratus © w/Lita vs. Victoria

(10 Minutes)

Trish Stratus got into an argument with co-champion Lita, trying to tug the belt away from her before the match could begin. Victoria took advantage and decked Trish with a forearm blow to the back. The bell sounded and the match got underway. Victoria took control, slamming Trish into the turnbuckles and following up with a snapmare and a dropkick for a 2 count. Trish fought back with some elbow shots and a snap suplex for a near fall. Stratus' comeback fell short, though, as the challenger ducked the Chick Kick and planted the champion with a DDT. Trish looked to be out of it, but the referee was distracted by Lita on the apron. Victoria shoved Lita off the apron, only to be rolled up by Trish for 2. Victoria nailed Stratus with a vicious elbow, sending her into the corner and forcing the referee to check on her. Lita took the chance to slide into the ring to try and attack Victoria, but her DDT attempt was countered into a northern lights suplex. Trish then waffled Victoria with the Chick Kick and fell into the cover for the 3, retaining the championship.

As Trish was celebrating with the title after the match, Lita came up behind her and hit a modified Twist of Fate! Stratus was motionless on the mat as Lita grabbed the Women's Title and left, a grin on her face.

Winner: Trish Stratus

Match Reaction = 67.6%

Match Quality = 51.4%

Overall Rating = 62.8%

Segment 6: Bad News For RKO

(7 Minutes)

We were taken backstage to RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff's office. Randy Orton stormed in and asked Bischoff what these messages from The Undertaker were all about. After all, Undertaker was still suspended, he couldn't show up on RAW... right? Bischoff reluctantly informed Orton that the board of directors have been on his back, demanding that Undertaker's suspension be lifted. Orton laughed it off and said that Bischoff wouldn't do something like that to him. Bischoff then informed Randy that unfortunately he had to comply, making all sorts of excuses while Orton went crazy. Bischoff then said that there was more bad news. Orton's eyes bulged as Bischoff then went on to tell Randy that he would have to face The Undertaker at Unforgiven - another demand from the board of directors. Orton gulped and then seemingly calmed down. He took a couple of deep breaths and walked out of the room, trying to reassure himself that it wasn't a big deal, after all he's the 'Legend Killer'.

Overall Rating = 77.3%

Segment 7: Singles Match

Chris Jericho vs. Tyson Tomko

(12 Minutes)

Jericho showed his vicious side as the match began, pounding on Tomko's face up to the referee's 4 count and choking him, too. Tomko went to take a breather, but Jericho springboarded dramatically from the ring, landing on his opponent. Back in the ring, Jericho went for the Lionsault, but missed, allowing Tomko to take control with a spinebuster. The 'Problem Solver' then battered Jericho's body in the corner with some hard shots. 'Y2J' battled back, though, rocking Tomko with a spinning DDT. Jericho gained some momentum and nailed Tyson with a missile dropkick and a bulldog. The Lionsault connected, but Jericho didn't go for the pin. Instead he pounded on Tomko and then rocked him with a running enziguri that sent the big man tumbling outside. Tomko went for a big boot on the outside, but Jericho ducked and trapped his opponent in the Walls of Jericho. Tomko tapped out while the referee tried to pull Jericho off of Tomko. Jericho eventually let go, the match still going because pinfalls and submissions didn't count on the outside. Jericho brushed the referee away and then took a steel chair from ringside. Ignoring the referee, Jericho smashed the steel across Tomko's head, causing the disqualification.

'Y2J' then used a nearby cable to tie up Tomko's neck, strangling him. More referees rushed to the ring and they were eventually able to pull Jericho off of Tyson Tomko.

Winner: Tyson Tomko (via DQ)

Match Reaction = 71.3%

Match Quality = 70.8%

Overall Rating = 74.8%

Segment 8: Why?

(4 Minutes)

Coming back from a commercial break, Todd Grisham caught up with Chris Jericho backstage. Grisham asked 'Y2J' why he got himself disqualified just then in his match against Tyson Tomko. Jericho insulted Todd, saying he should have been able to work it out. Jericho said he was doing a demonstration - a demonstration of what Jericho can and will do to The Big Show at Unforgiven, where it would all be legal in a Last Man Standing match. Jericho said he hoped Big Show had been paying attention, because he'll need one hell of a gameplan if he's to beat Jericho at Unforgiven.

Overall Rating = 87.6%

Segment 9: Singles Match

Rob Conway vs. Kid Kash

(12 Minutes)

Before the match, Lilian Garcia announced that the winner would wrestle for the Intercontinental Championship at Unforgiven.

Kid Kash was eager to impress and did so in the early part of the match, flying around the ring and sending Conway to the mat multiple times with different hurricanrana variations. Conway was sent to the outside where he was flattened by Kash who stepped onto the top rope and connected with a dive to the outside. Back in the ring, Conway was able to take control, reversing a hurricanrana, flipping Kash over his head and hanging him on the top rope. Conway then sent Kash to the mat with three big body slams in a row. Rob then worked on Kash's neck with a neckbreaker and a dragon sleeper. Kash tried to rally back, but was cut short with a reverse DDT. Conway followed up with an elbow drop from the top rope. Conway finished off Kash with a swinging neckbreaker, advancing to the fatal four-way at Unforgiven.

Winner: Rob Conway

Match Reaction = 68.6%

Match Quality = 59.3%

Overall Rating = 67.2%

Segment 10: A Reunion?

(1 Minute)

We saw Booker T in the locker room backstage, lacing up his boots. Booker T stood up and came face-to-face with Rob Van Dam. RVD said he was glad that he could be Booker T's tag team partner once again. Booker agreed, saying that he and Rob...Van...Dam (RVD pointed to himself as Booker said the name) would once again become the best tag team on RAW, "Now can you dig that? Suckaaa!". The pair walked out of the room and J.R. informed us that their match was up next.

Overall Rating = 81.5%

Segment 11: Tag Team Match

Booker T & Rob Van Dam vs. The Heart Throbs

(11 Minutes)

Booker T and Rob Van Dam looked like they had never split as a team as they took it to The Heart Throbs, using various double team moves to wear down the opponents. Booker dominated Antonio with power moves before RVD kicked the hell out of Romeo. Booker rocked Antonio with a kick to the jaw, setting him up for RVD to hit the Rolling Thunder for a near fall. The Heart Throbs were able to get some offense in, isolating RVD. They played to the crowd too much, though, allowing RVD to fight back with a couple of spin kicks. Van Dam made the 'hot tag' to bring in Booker, who cleared the ring with punches, chops, kicks and slams. Rob Van Dam tagged back in and kicked Antonio off of the top turnbuckle, sending him crashing to the outside. Romeo then fell victim to Booker T's Scissors Kick and then the Five Star Frog Splash, before being pinned for the 3.

The crowd went wild as the re-formed team celebrated, RVD once again pointing to himself and Booker T finishing off with a spin-a-roonie.

Winners: Booker T & RVD

Match Reaction = 71.2%

Match Quality = 67.3%

Overall Rating = 73.9%

Segment 12: Crashing The Party

(6 Minutes)

As Booker T and Rob Van Dam were celebrating in the ring, the World Tag Team Champions, Simon System, rushed the ring and assaulted them. Simon Dean punished Booker T with a curb stomp and followed up with the Simonizer. Maven rocked Van Dam with some stiff punches and then took him out with a chinlock backbreaker. Simon System stood tall over the fallen men, holding the tag team gold proudly in the air. The champs left the ring as J.R., King and everybody else wondered what had provoked the attack.

Overall Rating = 76.5%

Segment 13: Bloody Punishment

(10 Minutes)

Backstage we saw Triple H stop Ric Flair in the corridor, demanding that 'The Nature Boy' spill the answers that 'The Game' wanted. Flair refused and walked off, but he was soon attacked by Triple H. 'The Game' slammed Flair all over the backstage area, throwing him into walls and boxes. 'The Game' brought Flair out onto the RAW stage and followed with his sledgehammer. Flair was brutally beaten with punches and sledgehammer shots as numerous officials unsuccessfully tried to stop 'The Game's' rampage. Flair bled a lot, blood dripping onto his shirt and sending his blonde hair red. A particularly nasty sledgehammer shot to the skull seemed to knock Flair out, but Triple H wasn't finished. 'The Game' pulled up Flair's lifeless body and drilled him with a Pedigree on the steel floor. As if that wasn't enough, Triple H once again took his sledgehammer and this time drove it into the back of Flair's head, flattening 'The Nature Boy' against the steel stage. Triple H was dragged backstage by officials and referees as Flair lay in a pool of blood, being attended to by EMTs.

Overall Rating = 81.7%

Segment 14: Main Event Tag Team Match

Batista & Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Benoit & Edge

(15 Minutes)

Coming back from a commercial break, the main event was about to get underway. Ric Flair was still being treated by medics as the participants made their entrances. Things started off with a big brawl that made it's way all around ringside and even into the crowd. The referee was finally able to get some order and the match officially began with Batista and Edge. Edge tried to exact some revenge from his SummerSlam loss to 'The Animal', but was unsuccessful as he was dominated with some big slams from the World Heavyweight Champion. Shelton Benjamin then tagged in and went to work on Edge with chops and kicks. Benjamin connected with a flying clothesline for a near fall. The tide was soon turned, though, as Benoit helped Edge get an unfair advantage by choking Benjamin. Benoit and Edge were then able to isolate Shelton, Benoit's chops stinging his chest. The number one contender drilled Shelton with numerous suplexes, including some devastating Germans. Shelton began to mount a comeback, but then found himself trying to battle off both opponents. Edge blocked a kick, but Benjamin swung round and took out Benoit before clocking Edge with a superkick. Shelton finally made the tag to Batista, who came in and destroyed both opponents. Edge was given a spinebuster, as was Benoit. Batista then went for the Batista Bomb on Benoit, but received a Spear from Edge instead. As Edge and Batista brawled to the outside, Benjamin hit Benoit with the Stinger Splash, but his T-Bone Suplex attempt was countered into the Crossface! Batista tried to get in to help, but Edge kept him occupied on the outside. Shelton had no choice but to tap out in the middle of the ring.

Benoit escaped the ring after the match as Batista entered to check on Shelton. Benoit then re-entered and attacked the World Heavyweight Champion from behind, laying him out with a couple of German suplexes and trapping him in the Crossface. Batista clutched his arm as RAW went off the air, Benoit gazing at the World Heavyweight Title, focused.

Winners: Chris Benoit & Edge

Match Reaction = 70.6%

Match Quality = 76.8%

Overall Rating = 80.5%

RAW Rating: 76.3%

Attendance: 7,589

Great Booking Me Thinks ..

Nice Reunion between RVD and Booker T. Also im lovin this Ric Flair-Trips fued. It seesma very emotinal fued. Its a really brutal fued as well. I think you should get Trips to do some mic work on how he is effected from Rics betrayal or soemthing.

Firstly alldawson, i'm really glad that you decided to stick with this one and not start the 'WCW 2005' project, or whatever it would have been. You have such interesting storylines going on here that it would have been a true shame to just have seen you quit writing this.

Then, heel Chris Benoit. Now that's a brilliant idea. Even though he is quite good as a face in form of tough, everlasting warrior, as a heel i prefer him even better. He can be more... aggressive. And who knows, maybe "The Rabid Wolwerine" is the guy to finally defeat Batista, and re-capture the World Heavyweight Championship that he so rightfully deserves. On the other hand, i can't see Batista losing the title at Unforgiven after winning it at WrestleMania 21. Survivor Series would be the best option... well, time will tell.

Interesting storylines with the Intercontinental title, by the way.

In the SmackDown! side, in the blue side, things are at least just as good. Shawn Michaels... oh boy, the Heartbreak Kid brings so much excitement to that brand! The Rock, nice to see him back. John Cena as still the champion is also a very good decision, but i think that at No Mercy we'll get a new champion. Hopefully it's Eddie or Captain Charisma.

Very realistic booking in both brands, and still something innovative, something of your own. Skipper is also a nice addition to the WWE, hopefully he'll capture the Cruiserweight Title before the end of '05.

All in all, very good package. I'll keep reading! :)

Raw was great. I like how you're doing qualifying matches for the Intercontinental match at Unforgiven where it looks like people who have never had the title before (Carlito counts as he hasn't had the title in this reality). I'm happy Booker and RVD are a team again, just I mark too much for Simon Dean to support the Book Man and RVD. And naturally, the heels winning the tag team main event raises questions of who the hell will win the title match at Unforgiven.

Good show.

I haven't read this in awhile and I just got caught back up. Unforgivin is looking good already. I like Conway winning the match to wrestle for the IC Title. This is going to be interesting. I hope Angle becomes the number one contender and whoops Cena's ass like he is going to in real life, this Sunday.

WWE Smackdown! Preview

September 1st, 2005

Last week on Smackdown! four different superstars stated their intentions of gunning for the WWE Championship, currently around the waist of John Cena. Christian and Eddie Guerrero had a verbal battle while Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels announced their intentions in separate interviews. Will the situation be sorted out this week?

Speaking of Christian, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper's guest this week in Piper's Pit is none other than 'Captain Charisma' himself.

Eddie Guerrero will be in singles action as he does battle with Super Crazy.

After destroying Rey Mysterio in last Thursday's main event, Rhyno seems to be out of control and unstoppable. Smackdown! General Manager Theodore Long will try to control 'The Man Beast' this week as he puts him in a non-title match with the WWE Champion, John Cena!

What kind of mood will MNM be in this week? Surely not a good one, as they lost the WWE Tag Team Championship to the Natural Born Thrillers last Thursday. Tune into Smackdown! and find out.

John Bradshaw Layfield was scheduled to appear on Piper's Pit last week. He never showed, though, so Theodore Long has forced him into a match against the returning Rock this Thursday as a "suitable punishment". This match won't be a normal one, however. It will be No Holds Barred!

Last week saw a bikini contest between four Smackdown! divas. Torrie beat out Melina, Dawn Marie and Miss Jackie by fan vote. In the aftermath, Melina and Dawn attacked Torrie, leading to Jackie making the save. This week Melina and Dawn Marie team up to face Torrie and Miss Jackie.

Juventud again retained the Cruiserweight Championship last week in a triple threat match against Paul London and 'Primetime' Elix Skipper. Juvi gained the victory by cheating to pin Paul London. Josh Mathews will get Paul London's thoughts on the situation.

Tune into Smackdown! this Thursday night on UPN!

Confirmed Matches

Super Crazy vs. Eddie Guerrero

John Cena vs. Rhyno - Non-Title

The Rock vs. John Bradshaw Layfield - No Holds Barred

Miss Jackie & Torrie vs. Dawn Marie & Melina
