The Montreal Aftermath: WWF 1998

Recommended Posts

Awesome angle with Vince, HHH, Kane and Jarrett. Had tobe done, but was done with style. I liked Vinc'es approach to the segment, but be careful you don't transform Jarrett into Steve Austin. Try and keep some of his character alive (maybe he could start calling people slapnuts?)

I do, however, think it is too early for Full Throttle to get a Tag shot. They've only had a couple of matches. a better option would have been to place the DOA or Nation in that Tag match. It just appears you're pushing them too quick, too soon, and I fear that they'll lose all credibility if they either a) Win the belts or b) Get slaughtered. But what's done is done (and it is your diary after all).

Finally, please be aware of saying things like "Anyone else expect him to drop the strap at WM?". It makes me think you're either giving the result away, or trying to swerve your audience.

But I still think this is ythe best diary I've read in a while. Keep it up. I can't wait until wrestlemania

This is far and away the best diary around at the minute, and the only one that I check every day for updates. The results are well written, the booking is logical, and considering the handicap that you started with, you have turned your promotion around. Well done.

I'm still waiting for Owen to return. But it was the only aspect you could do with the main event, because otherwise Triple H would have been left out, and we can't be having that now can we. Quite a few of your matches seem set, but for some reason it seems like kind of a weak card still. Quite a few of your fueds haven't had time to simmer and it ends up coming out on the wrong end of the spectrum as far as cards go. But I have a feeling that by Summerslam, these things are going to be ironed out.

WWF SIGNS DEVELOPMENTAL TALENT

The WWF have recently signed several Independent workers to be developmental talent. Most of these guys have been scouted by the WWF for nearly two months now, and are either former WCW or ECW locker-room members. Here is a list of the wrestlers recently signed by the WWF to developmental deals.

Michael Manna - Better known by his ring-name in ECW, Stevie Richards, part of the infamous bWo angle in ECW during late 1996 to early 1997. Manna was been rehabbing a neck injury when he was signed by WCW in mid '97. This apparently soured things between him and Paul Heyman. Richards appeared as a brief member of Raven's Flock before failing a physical and subsequently being released in late '97, he has been working independent bookings since.

John Leroux - Was a member of the WCW Powerplant in early '97, using the monicker Lash Leroux, and was being groomed to be a solid high-flyer / speed wrestler. Was released by WCW earlier this year due to massive roster cuts. Has been working independent bookings since.

Gregory Helms - A virtually unknown wrestler. Wrestled numerous bookings for OMEGA (Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts), a recently defunct independent wrestling promotion previously run by Matt and Jeff Hardy (currently signed to WWF Developmental contracts), was signed under heavy recommendation from both Hardy's.

Steve Corino - A former milkman from Pennsylvania, has been wrestling in the independent circuit for the past 4 years in relative obscurity. Corino has been consistently scouted by Paul Heyman and has been given numerous invitations to perform for ECW shows since the start of '98. Vince McMahon and company caught wind of his skill with the microphone and offered him a developmental deal with the WWF.

Triple Threat? Kinda takes the special feeling it had, when Kane was terroizing Michaels. Why all of a sudden put Jarret into the picture when you had Hunter sitting right there? Well IMO, it seems kinda stale, but I've liked what you've done so far, and can't wait till you push Rocky to main title stream :)

    • Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to RAAAAW! Tonight, all three WM headliners in action! And... ROCKY MAIVIA VS. FAROOQ!
    • What better way to start things off, other than with a red-hot lightheavyweight match!
    • Michinoku and Taylor proceed to TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN.
    • The crowd was into this one, and they put on a solid, solid match.
    • Michinoku hit a couple of high-spots, and Taylor responded with a few of his own.

    • Associate Barry is out alone, the other Associates are with Vinnie-mac.
    • JJ is out and the crowd pops huge. Hoorah.
    • Nice brawl going on. But these two really didn't click much throughout the match. Barry Windham was too much of an "old-school" brawler.

    • Kane is UNSTOPPABLE.
    • Crush finaly snaps and picks up a chair. He smashes Kane with it and gets called for the DQ.

    • Shamrock grabs the mic, while addressing a retreating Mero. "YOU WANT A SHOT? YOU GOT IT! AND AT WRESTLEMANIA, I'M GOING TO BREAK YOU, MERO!"
    • OOOOOH. Nice.
  • Farooq draw Rocky Maivia (M:77 C:86 O:83)
    • Farooq is out, he is with the entire Nation. Kama, D'Lo and Mark Henry.

    • Farooq powers his way back.
    • Rocky takes advantage. He climbs up top. BUT IS SHOVED DOWN BY D'LO!

    • Vince says that if they wanted to fight, he had no problem, and gave them that fight tonight.
    • Vince then says that they ruined what was a money match for tonight, by bringing in their respective groups.
    • He was a fair man, says Vince, and that he's going to give them another opportunity to bash each other's brains in.
    • He says that that won't be a problem ANYMORE... because at WrestleMania XIV, Farooq and Rocky will get to settle their differences inside a STEEL CAGE! The crowd EXPLODES. Yeesh.

    • BUT STEVE AUSTIN SHOWS UP FROM BEHIND THE ANNOUNCE TABLE!
    • AND ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!
    • STUNNER ON BARRY! STUNNER ON ROBERT! LEFTS AND RIGHTS ON BARTHLOLOMEW... STUNNER ON HIM TOO!
    • McMahon is cornered like a rat!!! Austin grins and the crowd cheers him on!

WRESTLEMANIA XIV: DX-RAIDED

March 29, 1998 - Fleet Center, Boston, Mass.

* Main Event for the VACANT WWF Championship:

KANE vs. HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY vs. JEFF JARRETT

Kane wins the title with a pin on HHH which gives HBK legit beef with HHH for not holding the title for DX. Only other alternative is HHH with a pin over Jarrett to keep Kane strong but I reckon putting it on HHH will de-value the title.

KANE

* Cage Match (The Nation and DOA are banned from ringside):

FAROOQ vs. ROCKY MAIVIA

The Rock goes over clean and sets him up as the future star.

* Six-man Special Stipulation Tag Match:

DUSTIN RHODES, CHARLIE SCAGGS & STEVE AUSTIN vs. THE McMAHON ASSOCIATES: BARTHOLOMEW, ROBERT AND BARRY

Err you can't job Austin out on his return. That would be suicide.

* WWF Intercontinental Championship:

KEN SHAMROCK © vs. MARC MERO

Marvelous Marc Mero will win here just for the plain reason he has just turned heel and he needs some momentum. You also need a heel champion if Kane goes over.

* WWF Tag Team Championship:

THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS © vs. FULL THROTTLE

To early for Full Throttle to go over here but the NAO win will be by cheating or interference.

* WWF Lightheavyweight Championship:

BRIAN CHRISTOPHER © vs. TAKA MICHINOKU

Christopher has turned into somewhat of a lameduck champion so put the belt on Taka he is well good.

* AHMED JOHNSON vs. KURRGAN

Kurrgan gets the win and I believe will take on Kane for the Heavyweight Title in the near future. Two monsters both with managers would be an interesting feud.

* LEGION OF DOOM vs. THE QUEBECERS (W/ RAY ROUGEAU)

Not really bothered about this I'll go for LOD in the opening match to warm up the crowd for the night ahead.

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Awesome RAW. Really ggod stuff there. Loved the return of Austin, although rememer that he was out because of his neck, so don't push him too hard too quick. Give him a chance to recover first.

I must admit, I am slowly buying The Rock's links to DOA. Really looking forward to a good cage match, provided Farooq doesn't go and "no-sell" on you in the match.

You really did some good development of all storylines (except main-event... but that is well and truly set.)

My Picks for Wrestlemania:

Jarrett to pin HHH for the title (keep Kane strong, but not sure he's the right choice for champ)

Rocky to beat Farooq, and set himself to begin a run for the top (feud with HHH????)

Rhodes, Scaggs and Austin over the associates (Stone Cold back, nothing else needs to be said)

Shamrock over Mero. (He only recently got the belt, and Mero is not over enough to become champ)

Outlaws over Full Throttle (I've already said my piece about Full Throttle in an earlier post)

Christopher over Taka (Brian cheats so you can set up the final match...Ladder???)

Ahmed over Kurrgan (they both suck, but Kurrgan sucks more)

Quebecers over LOD (LOD need to step aside)

I've just read through this entire diary and I've gotta say I love the style of your results. Simple and easy enough to read everything without having to sit here for a few hours to do so.

Looking forward to WrestleMania now!

Main Event for the VACANT WWF Championship:

KANE vs. HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY vs. JEFF JARRETT

I want to say that Kane will win it, but we haven't seen all that much from him in the ring so I'll have to say Hunter takes it.

Cage Match (The Nation and DOA are banned from ringside):

FAROOQ vs. ROCKY MAIVIA

Rocky should take it and get further pushed up the card, and despite the ban on The Nation and DOA being at ringside, I@m sure they could find a way to interfere.

Six-man Special Stipulation Tag Match:

DUSTIN RHODES, CHARLIE SCAGGS & STEVE AUSTIN vs. THE McMAHON ASSOCIATES: BARTHOLOMEW, ROBERT AND BARRY

A win to Austin, just because at this time in reality he was a big focus, and despite his injury he still can be a nuisance to Vinny Mac.

WWF Intercontinental Championship:

KEN SHAMROCK © vs. MARC MERO

Shamrock to retain, because it seems the ideal place for him to be on the card - competing for the IC gold.

WWF Tag Team Championship:

THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS © vs. FULL THROTTLE

NAO to retain for the plain fact I mark for them. In all honesty, I'm expecting them to drop the belts soon.

WWF Lightheavyweight Championship:

BRIAN CHRISTOPHER © vs. TAKA MICHINOKU

Give it back to Taka, and have Brian Christopher teach him some English!

AHMED JOHNSON vs. KURRGAN

He's one of your greatest character developments in my opinion.

LEGION OF DOOM vs. THE QUEBECERS (W/ RAY ROUGEAU)

A Mania win for the LOD please.
