The EWB Mafia ~~~SIGN UPS~~~

Well, I was looking around some message boards this morning, and I found a neat little game on the M:TG boards which I have decided to shamelessly steal and adapt for my own fame-gaining purposes. No Roleplaying is required, and it'd only take about a couple of minutes each day to participate, so how's bout it, eh?

Basically, it's a guessing game. Players all members of a town infiltrated by the Mafia. The Mafia members know who the other members are, but the regular Townies will not know who's who. The Townies win if all the Mafia members are killed, and likewise, the Mafia wins if they kill everyone else. It's a bit similar to Whodunnit, I guess, but since it's only Kaney's idea, I don't mind ripping him off

How It Works:

The game is split into two sections, Day and Night. (Game Time, not according to the real world.)

Players will be pm'd their roles. There will be 5 Mafia members, and the rest will be Townies.

The game begins at Night, where the Mafia members decide to whack a townsfolk. Other players may also do special actions, which I will explain below.

Once someone has been chosen to be hit, the night ends with me posting a report of who gets killed. To help you along, the report will contain a *subtle* clue identifying a mafia member -- but will also contain red herrings to throw you off. Clues may be taken from anywhere: Usernames, Signatures, Avatars, Profiles, etc.

Once someone has been killed, it goes to Daytime, where all players (Mafia and Townies alike), discuss amongst themselves to identify possible members, and a vote will be held to lynch somebody. At this point of time, players can post to accuse each other based on clues from the report, suspicious voting patterns (for example, Mafia members may form a bandwagon to vote out another player, but that would be a bit too obvious), and what not. Of course, Mafia members should try to lie and come up with arguments to convince the other players to kill off their own kind. Once the vote is decided (either by majority or time up), a player gets killed off and his alignment is revealed, and we repeat the cycle until only faction is left standing.

Special Roles:

In addition to the regular Townies, some people will be handed special roles. It is up to them if they want to reveal it to the other players, though of course this would only serve to paint a huge target on their backs for the Mafia to whack.

Policeman: May investigate one player each night to see if they are Townie or Mafia.

Doctor: May protect one other player from getting killed each night.

Everyone will be getting some sort of role, but for the sake of suspense, those roles will only be made known to that person alone.

Just to let you know, Matzat did a game identical to this called Werewolves or something the Donator's forum, where instead of mafia we had werewolves. Me, The Mick and somebody else (Chris2k?) were the werewolves, and we owned all =D

I can't come in as I'm off for 5 days later in the week over Christmas!

However I played this loads last year with real people. Loads of Christians play this game at youth events...Great fun...Played it half a dozen times in Denmark, teaching loads of Danes....
