Your songs of the year so far

Recommended Posts

For me, since they turned up on Jools Holland, The Spinto Band's song "Brown Boxes" hasn't left my MP3 player and clearly has the most plays.

The other two are probably "Monster" by The Automatic and "Nobody Move Nobody Gets Hurt" by We Are Scientists.

No good electro so far :(

I *think* the following are all from this year, but I may be wrong.

Television Personalities "She Can Stop Traffic"

The Modern "Industry"

Franz Ferdinand "L. Wells" (bit of a guilty pleasure, that one)

Final Fantasy "He Poos Clouds"

Ruby Tombs "Those Who Can't"

How To Tell Yourself From A Television "Wake Up Mum, It's 1995"

There's probably more.

Thus far this year...

The Automatic - Monster

Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On

RHCP - Dani California

Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Pink - Stupid Girls

Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker

PaTD - The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage

Morrissey - The Youngest Was the Most Loved

Morrissey - You Have Killed Me

That's about it. Not a good haul for half of a year, really. Hopefully that'll all change in the next six months. Well, how could it not with a new Bob Dylan album out in August?

From this year....hmmm...hmmm. Jack's Mannequin ("Everything in Transit") has remained a constant on my regular playlist from 2005 until now. A Wilhelm Scream ("Ruiner"), Sigur Ros ("Takk") and Death Cab For Cutie ("Plans") too. All getting frequent plays, and I'm not sick of the albums at all yet.

As for stuff this year. All of these are pretty much permenent fixtures in my playlist, and have been for a while (And in most cases will be for a while); Ignite ("Our Darkest Days"), The Fray ("How To Save A Life"), In Flames ("Come Clarity"), Les Claypool ("Of Whales & Woe"), Streetlight Manifesto ("Keasbey Nights"), Muse ("Blackholes & Revelations") and Rise Against ("The Sufferer & The Witness").

As far as actual songs, which I seem to listen to non-stop (In no particular order);

"Starlight" and "Knights Of Cydonia" by Muse

"From The Ritz To The Rubble" by The Arctic Monkeys

"Dead End" by In Flames

"Insomnia" by Electric President

"Creepin' Up The Backstairs" by The Fratelli's

"Hand On Your heart" by Jose Gonzalez (Yes the Stay In The Shade EP was released in 05, but the video's 06...so it counts)

The only good thing about The Racounters is the fact the name sounds dirty. :shifty:

They're nowhere near as good as The White Stripes, their music lacks the sheer energy and uniquness of the Stripes... There's still a couple of good songs on "Broken Boy Soliders" though.

Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"

Muse - "Knights of Cydonia"

Snow Patrol - "Hands Open"

Nelly Furtado - "Promiscuous" (You laugh, but Timbaland kicks ass.)

30 Seconds to Mars - "The Kill" (Though, I suppose that might not count if it was on a 2005 CD.)

Shinedown - "I Dare You"

Godsmack - "Speak"

EDIT: Oh and I must not forget the T.I. twofer "What You Know" and "Why You Wanna".

And yes, I kept a lot in the mainstream for this...I probably shouldn't have.
