Stupid question, but I've been thinking about cults lately, and it got me curious.

How do you prefer to do them? How do you give the cult a fighting chance without fucking the town completely? To be honest, I liked the 'day' cult I ran in Dead Rising, and as far as I know it's the only one of it's kind, gaining voting power from the lynched.

Granted it too has it's down side, but seeing that it demanded the cult leader try and see lynches accomplished, but required him to hide any multiple votes he had aswell? I think it offered something different from the usual, shut up and recruit as many reputable players in the first few night phases as possible style of play.

And I'm interested in hearing other beliefs on the much hated role. Is there a way to run a cult without it sucking for lots of people?

The last time I did a cult was EWB Mafia. 1/4 of the roles couldn't be converted at all, and only 1/4 would retain their abilities, meaning 1/2 would just become vanilla recruits. Even that might have been too powerful if not for the fact the cult leader was lynched on like the third day.

In general, cults suck.

I put in the Tracts for Blacks cult in Chick Mafia mostly for my own amusement, but in general, I'm not a fan.

I actually liked the cult in Final Fantasy Mafia but you'd have to ask Ruki how that one worked. I think it might have just been a general cult.

I had a progressively smaller chance at conversion and could give powers to the people I converted. It was a wee bit broken--giving the cult a kill kind of fudges things--but the town also had the Jesusmonkey, so, uh, yeah.

EDIT: Stop hatin' Sousa. I came into a game where my predecessor played like crap and left me with a very flimsy argument about who I was. The fact that we were able to out talk you and then gang rape the town is all that matters
