The Butterfly Effect - 7/10

A suprisingly good movie. Though I kind of felt that they set out to make somewhat of a cult movie, and just tryed to hard to do so. For the most part just seemed extreme and tacky. Still liked it though.

May - Starring Angela Bettis

Plot Summary :

May is a young strange girl who had a very disturbed childhood and does not still know the meaning of true friendship or love. She works at a pet clinic and lives alone with her only "true friend"; a doll her mother gave her when she was a little girl. When she fails to find the "perfect man" that will make her happy, she decides to construct him herself, using parts from different people

My Rating : 7/10 (****1/2)

Monster - Starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci

Plot Summary :

A dark tale based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, one of America's first female serial killers. Wuornos had a difficult and cruel childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan. She became a prostitute by the age of thirteen, the same year she became pregnant. She eventually moved to Florida where she began earning a living as a highway prostitute--servicing the desires of semi-truck drivers. The tale focuses on the nine month period between 1989 and 1990, during which Wuornos had a lesbian relationship with a woman named Selby. And during that very same time, she also began murdering any of her clientele who attempted to rape her. This turned the tables on a rather common phenomena of female highway prostitutes being the victims of serial killers--instead Wuornos, herself, carried out the deeds of a cold-blooded killer.

My Rating : 10/10 (*****)

Buffalo '66 - Starring - Vincent Gallo and Christina Ricci

Plot Summary:

Only one thing could bring Billy's mom any joy: an NFL championship for the Bills. She missed the last championship because she went into labor with Billy. Billy's dad snapped his dog's neck to teach him responsibility. Billy bet ten grand on the Bills to win in the Super Bowl five years before only to lose that bet on a missed field goal. He did five years in prison taking the fall for the bookie he can't repay. Now he's out. He has to do two things while he's out: visit his parents before killing the kicker who not only lost the Super Bowl for the Bills but also put him away. The only problem is he has to piss. He kidnaps a girl from a dance studio where he goes to piss so that she can pose as the fictitious wife from the fictitious life he invented in his letters to his parents from jail. She falls for him instantly. He makes the audience uncomfortable as he ignores her advances as he uses her in his plans to eventually kill the kicker while convincing his parents that he lives far away with his beautiful wife.

My Rating: 8/10 (***1/2)

Mean Girls - *** or (6/10) - (Y)

A whole lot funnier than I remembered on first viewing....I'd have to buy it on DVD.

Starsky & Hutch - *** or (6.5/10) - (Y)

After buying it two weeks ago, I finally opened it and watched it again. The first 30 minutes still suck.

The Transporter: 6/10- A Heavy hitter Action movie. A bit stupid but nonetheless a good way to waste time if you have nothing else to do.

And thats about it.......In other news, Harry Potter and the POA comes out on DVD by November 23rd! Woohoo!

Guest TheVaudevilleSuperstar

Adaptation

Starring: Nick Cage, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper

Directed by: Spike Jonze

Written by: Charlie Kauffman, loosely based (if you could call it that) on Susan Orlean's book, The Orchid Thief.

Brilliant, albeit esoteric, confusing, and semi-self serving. (Even though I love it for those reasons)

Numerical Scale: 8.5

Thumbs: Thumbs Up

Completely subjective comparison to other movies scale: Step above High Fidelity, Step below Swingers

Rushmore

Starring: Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Olivia Williams

Directed by: Wes Anderson

Written by: Wes Anderson & Owen Wilson

Fun, Quirky film with a great debut for Jason Schwartzman, however, I did think Olivia Williams’ character (Rosemary Cross) was somewhat tedious and dull, though that was mostly due to the character’s demeanor and attitude .

Saved

Starring: Jenna Malone, Mandy Moore, Patrick Fugit, Macaulay Culkin

Directed by: Brian Dannelly

Written by: Brian Dannelly & Michael Urban

I was very much looking forward to this and expected a witty, dark satire of Catholic schools and the growing commercialism of Catholicism (and faith, for that matter) as a whole. Instead the movie was filled with played out clichés. Most of the cast was strong, however. I believe what annoyed me the most was the perfect ending where everything works out for everyone. Mileage may vary.

Report Card: C

Thumbs: Thumbs Down (though others may love it)

Completely subjective comparison to other movies scale: Step above Chasing Liberty (or any other Mandy Moore movie), Step below The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys.

Heavyweights - 7/10 or (**1/2) One of those live-action Disney flicks that actually is pretty funny.

B00003CXTM.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Driven - 5.5/10 or (**) This film tried to cause many things: 1. The continual rise of everybody's favorite breakout star from Remember The Titans, Kip Pardue. 2. The return of both Sylvester Stallone and Burt Reynolds. 3. Rise up CART Racing to the levels of popularity that NASCAR has. The sad things is, it failed at all three. The movie itself is decent enough with only ridiculously absurd crashes holding it down.

The Notebook - ***1/2 or (7/10) - (Y)

Pretty much one of the most obvious, cliche, "love story" movies you're gonna see in the movie year....but I ate it up with a fucking spoon.

I also watched Shadow Of The Vampire - ***1/2 or (7/10) - (Y)....I couldn't find a suitable pic, so that will go without for now.
