THOMPSON: That‘s right… His own suite mates in Blacksburg said that he was on the computer all the time. He wasn‘t downloading music. He was playing this game.

MATTHEWS: Well, we have — that‘s not what we just heard… We just talked to his—one of his suite mates, who said…

THOMPSON: He doesn‘t know.

I wish I could take a bat to Thompson's head.

Yeah, read the transcript. Especially the interview with the suitemate who says that every time he saw Cho on his laptop he had a word document open, that he never once saw him playing Counter-Strike. Of course, his suitemates can't know what he's doing all the time, but still..

"We know in two regards"? Does that even make sense?

The man's a knob. I'm only aware of him as the laughing stock of the internet, does anyone actually take him seriously?

I'd imagine some of the more staunch conservatives and conservative parents might, but literally damn near everyone on the internet (and all the gamers I know in real life!) think of him as a joke.

The man is a fucking tool, but it;s good to see one of these news host types not just accepting his every word.

Incidentally, I looked JT up on wikipedia, and apparently he had an interesting calling card:

In sending documents to opponents, Thompson would frequently attach a photocopy of his driver's license, with a photo of Batman pasted over his own, just to make sure they knew who they were dealing with. Thompson said, "I have sent my opponents pictures of Batman to remind them I'm playing the role of Batman. Just like Bruce Wayne helped the police in the movie, I have had to assist the sheriff of Broward County." He also wore a Batman wristwatch.

I wouldn't put it past him, he clearly needs some sort of mental help.

He's basically saying all calm killers play video games, and that's the only possible way for a killer to remain calm while shooting people (who haven't killed before). It's a ludicrous claim, and I just love the way he assumes he knows better than the shooter's closest acquaintances.

And speaking of Germany, it sucks over there now. They have to import games from Austria just so they can play Gears Of War or whatever. It doesn't STOP the games being played, it just makes them more annoying to obtain.

And if there is a day when all violent video games are outlawed globally, I'm glad I live in this era of gaming. Roll on Halo 3, et al.

THOMPSON: When he looked on the screen… Chris, you can‘t do something this well the first time you do it. And the fact is, it wasn‘t the first time. He was in a hyper-reality situation, in virtual reality…

I too live in hyper-reality. It's pretty awesome. It's like regular reality, only hyper.

Seriously, this is really, cosmically, phenomenally dumb. This is the dumbest thing he's ever done since The Sims, which cannot be topped on the dumb scale unless he starts saying that Pac-Man trains people to fry bacon for purposes of death. "You can't do something this well the first time you do it?" It's using a gun to randomly massacre an unprepared group of civilians. It doesn't require years of training to lower your heart rate or some shit.

It's like regular reality, only hyper.

That's one of my favourite things ever said on this board.

In October 2006, Thompson sent a letter to Midway Games, demanding they cease and desist selling the latest game in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, claiming that the game was illegally profiting on his likeness, because gamers could use the Kreate a Fighter option to make a character who looked like Jack Thompson[76]. Midway has not ceased distribution of the game.

And that was my favourite part of his Wiki. One of the most ludicrous statements I've ever heard. The guy must have Asperger's Syndrome or something, the level of unjustified obsession with violence in video games that he's displayed is far more abnormal, and far more concerning, than any displayed by any killer I've heard of.

I like Ctrl+Alt+Del's theory on why he's so fucked up. He was raped in the back alley as a child by GTA: Pong.

Early litigation

Thompson filed a lawsuit on behalf of the parents of three children killed in the Heath High School shooting in 1997. Investigations showed that the perpetrator, 14-year-old Michael Carneal, had regularly played various computer games (including Doom, Quake, Castle Wolfenstein, Redneck Rampage, Nightmare Creatures, Mechwarrior, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy) and accessed some pornographic websites.

The guy has just flat-out lost his mind. From gamepolitics.com:

Not content to sue (so far this year) the Florida Bar, the Florida Supreme Court, GTA publisher Take-Two Interactive and leading gaming blog Kotaku, game-hatin’ barrister Jack Thompson has focused on a new target, burger franchise Wendy’s.

In the latest issuance from his nonstop e-mail machine, Thompson turns his attention to Wendy’s CEO Kerri Anderson. What’s Thompson’s gripe? Obesity? Cholesterol? The Frostys are too thick to suck through a straw?

Nah. It’s Rockstar’s upcoming Manhunt 2. So just what is Wendy’s connection with Manhunt 2? There isn’t one, unless you connect the dots the way Jack Thompson connects the dots.

With essentially no one left to sue, Thompson has latched onto a Wendy’s promotional tie-in with Nintendo Wii toys (pictured at left). The issue seems to be that:

a.) Manhunt 2 is what Thompson calls a “murder simulator”

b.) Manhunt 2 will appear on the Wii (among other systems)

c.) Wendy’s is promoting the Wii, therefore;

d.) Wendy’s is promoting Manhunt 2, which promotes murder

Thompson also claims to have the inside track on what deceased Wendy’ founder Dave Thomas would have wanted in this regard:

A dear friend of mine worked for Wendy’s and with Dave Thomas closely for years. From that I know that Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy’s good name to promote Nintendo’s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform.

So, second hand, friend-of-a-friend info on the inner thoughts of a dead guy. Is that what passes for evidence in Thompson’s world these days?

Funny, though. None of the toys depicted on the Wendy’s site seem to be from Manhunt 2. In fact, they all look rather E-rated.

Just to be clear here, Thompson has neither sued nor has he threatened to sue Wendy’s. However, he has been making noises of late about an international movement to block the publication of Manhunt 2, with details coming next week. Sounds to GP as though Thompson and British Parliamentarian Keith Vaz, another Manhunt critic, will be teaming up.

Honestly, what's next?

Burger King is doing a tie-in with Spider-Man

Spider-Man is distributed by Columbia Pictures

Sony owns Columbia Pictures

Sony manufactures the Playstation 2

Manhunt 2 also appears on the Playstation 2

Burger King promotes murder simulators.

McDonald's is currently doing their Monopoly tie-in

There is a Spongebob Squarepants Monopoly game

Spongebob Squarepants appears on Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom

Viacom also owns Spike TV

Spike TV hosts the Video Game Awards

Manhunt 2 is a video game

McDonald's supports murder simulators.
