"They can argue who gets the goal later" - Well, if Phillips neglected to touch it, it'd still be 0-0

Instead it's 2-0 WBA now...Phillips first, and Miller with the second about a minute later.

EDIT: 2-1 now, Ainsworth. After 24 minutes.

Pretty decent performance from us for a change, we deserved the 2-0 win, but the Robins keeper was very good.

But, O'Driscoll showed how bland he is again. With about 15 minutes left, he took off the best player (Lewis Guy) and brought on arguably the worst player under contract (Paul 'Never Got Over The Conference' Green) and immediately we went from being an attacking side with flare to a really average side. I'll never understand how Green has made it to 200 league games for us, because he's a conference quality player, and he always has been. He just runs after the ball like a primary school kid, and he hasnt got the quality needed in League 1.

Oh, and lets see how Leeds do for a game or two without both of their players.

ONE TOMMY MILLER! THERE'S ONLY ONE TOMMY MILLER!

I had the best fucking day ever. My favourite Town player hits the net on his return and celebrates right infront of me, bloody brilliant.

Tommy is back! :D Town brilliant at the Fortress yet again, Town played some magnificent stuff with Counago heading against the bar with Town hitting the target left, right and centre . Billy Clarke started on the left and was an inspiration, this is like Bent & Ambrose all over again with Haynes, Clarke and the once again Man Of The Match Owen Garvan putting in a great performance. Billy really deserved a goal, and SO SO nearly got it with a thunderous effort that smacked off the post and a diving header that missed by inches.

Jon Walters continues to make great strides, and Preston had two men on him straight from the kick off as i predicted.

Did it stop him?

Did it fuck, putting in a made-to-measure cross for Alan Lee to head home. Town continued to press with Clarke and Counago's efforts as mentioned above.

Then; the best moment of the day. Fantastic hold up play by Pablo, dancing inbetween Preston defenders, layed it off to Tommy, WHACK! Back of the net, and into the North Stand. Absolutely FANTASTIC.

I can't comment on Preston's penalty as i didnt see it, but the Greene King were certainly furious when Mellor went down. Surely if its a penalty then Alexander must get carded? If he didnt get carded, was it a penalty? The Referee who was clearly oblivious pointed straight to the spot, but then spent five minutes talking to his Assistant....i don't know, sometimes these idiots react on impulse.

The tit then somehow found FIVE added minutes from a game with little stoppages, but the Town held on with every single player clapping the fans at the end.

The best group of lads i've seen at Town for a long time.

Not exactly the league, but Grimsby Town beat Rotherman in the random Paint trophy... For the first time in YEARS (since they were in Division One therefore automatically put in the third round of the FA Cup) Town are in the third round of a tournament.

What about that run when you played spurs a few seasons ago?

Hartlepool's 20-year-old midfield man Michael Maidens has died in a road traffic accident.

Pools' game at Swansea and the club's youth team fixture on Saturday has also been called off as a mark of respect to the player and his family.

Maidens made his Hartlepool debut at Blackpool in September 2005 and appeared in 22 games in that season. He played seven games last term and had been hoping to make a major impact in the side during this campaign.

Damn that sucks. I wondered why they announced it as 0-0 at the Forest game but then said it was postponed on Five Live.

Went to my first away game today since Bradford in 05/06, but it was a very uninspiring game. Best part of it was having some proper rival fans to chant abuse at! Cant do that at home cos there's hardly any away fans at just about every game :(

A MULTI-MILLION pound takeover of Ipswich Town was announced today.

The club announced it has been successful in attracting a significant investor whose investment will secure the financial future of the Club.

The proposed private investment from Marcus Evans, a successful businessman, involves the purchase of approximately £32million of external debt as well as an additional investment of £12million through the issue of new shares by the Club.

This will stabilise the Club financially, supporting it in its ambition of returning to the Premiership.

The investment is subject to contract, which is conditional upon the completion of due diligence.

The transaction will result in Mr Evans becoming the majority owner and shareholder (87.5%) of the Club; importantly, existing shareholders will retain their shares, albeit as a minority group.

The board unanimously believes the offer is in the best interests of all stakeholders and intends, subject to contract and due diligence, to recommend it to shareholders.

Full details will be circulated to shareholders in due course, after which they will be asked to vote on the transaction at a general meeting.

David Sheepshanks, chairman of Ipswich Town FC, said: “Marcus Evans' investment is potentially great news for Ipswich Town Football Club.

“The Board have been in discussion with Marcus Evans for some time. We are pleased now to be able to make this announcement about the deal, that when completed, will enable further investment in Jim Magilton's team building and our quest to bring Premiership football back to Portman Road.”

Marcus Evans, added: “I am delighted to be able to support the club of which I have long been an admirer. I believe that Ipswich Town has great potential to build upon its rich footballing heritage.

“The club has an excellent reputation, both on the pitch and off it, as part of the local community, and this has played a big part in attracting me here.

“The board has done a good job in difficult conditions under the stewardship of David Sheepshanks who will continue in his role as chairman, with the support of a strong executive management team.

“Jim Magilton and the squad have made a terrific start to the season and will have my full support.”
