Songs that you thought were the original....

Recommended Posts

Okay, confession time here. You see, I thought "Heartbeats" featured in the Sony Bravia bouncy ball advert here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bb8P7dfjVw was actually Jose Gonzalez's song....

Until...

I discovered the might of the Swedish group "The Knife" who's song it actually is, and Gonzalez's version is just a cover.

Truth be told, I prefer the original though I'd imagine that isn't the view of everyone.

On a side note, the phenomenal vocallist appeared on the Royksopp track "What Else Is There". What a video too...

Yeah, I thought it was common knowledge "Heartbeats" was a cover. :o The Knife version...whilst I love The Knife, it does have some form of "So bad it's good" vibe to it. And I too possibly prefer the original, because of that.

I knew it was a cover I also knew it was originally by The Knife (I had to google find the name of the song from the Bravia ad where all was explained), having downloaded the original straight after Jose's version I thought that it was from the '80s. It wasn't until a few months later that I stumbled upon something lauding the Knife's album I realised they were a modern band. I personally don't get a so bad it's good vibe, I just straight up like it.

For my part I didn't know Conquest by the White Stripes was a cover, then again I don't really like the Stripes version enough to seek out the original.

It's not a cover. From Wikipedia..

"The song was co-written by Eric Stefani and Gwen Stefani and co-produced by Matthew Wilder. The bittersweet ballad is based on a true story on the turbulent relationship between Gwen Stefani and bassist Tony Kanal."

The best thing about the Sony Bravia advert, going off topic for a while, is that rather than the usual route of generating computer bouncy balls and putting them on a street, they ACTUALLY FIRED 25,000 BOUNCY BALLS FROM A CANNON, while traffic was still going past at the bottom of the hill ¬_¬

This doesn't really make any sense; but I thought "Mr. Grieves" was by TV On The Radio, despite owning the Pixies album on which it appears, and having owned it for a long time before I discovered TV On The Radio, and knowing that it pre-dated TV On The Radio. Stupid me.
