I don't see any case for picking Hargreaves in place of Barry whatsoever. If he does replace Barry then it just shows we're in for another manager that encourages the 'old boys' mentality, where players like Lampard, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Beckham etc. are picked by reputation only.

I agree, I think people sometimes jump to conclusions when they see a top four player displace a non-top-four player. It's not always favouritism based on who they play for.

Whilst I agree with that, it does seem to happen often enough where an in-form non top four player misses out for an underperforming top four player, that people naturally get a bit negative about it.

I remember the days when the English attacking game consisted primarily of "hoof the ball up to Heskey and see if he can perform magic out of the air...oh no, he fell down instead".

Don't deny that it happened. :shifty:

I'm pretty sure Schmeichel could choose for England if he wanted to, considering his father has been living in England for years now, Kasper probably has a England passport as well. But I don't think Kasper has been performing THAT well. Everytime the opponent has a corner I cringe when I see Kasper almost fuck up. He has potential, I'll give him that, but he's nowhere near his father yet.

Lampard and Hargreaves not playing is a blessing for England IMO. I don't think Lampard and Gerrard work that well together and if I had to choose between them I would defo choose for Gerrard. Also, Barry did great so I don't see any reason for putting Hargreaves there when he's fit again (just because he had a good World Cup).

Oh and will Russia - England be on the BBC? 'Cause I want to see Holland/Albania and England/Russia at the same time (although the England is way more exciting).
