Space-themed music?

Bushmeister

Recommended Posts

Recently, I have found myself collecting music that utilize space, celestial objects and cosmic events as their themes. It started with metal music quite obviously, but has since then grown to encompass a wider variety. I'm now interested in adding similar music to my collection. So, songs about space and the planets, anyone?

Currently, the bands & albums that I have included:

Aurora Borealis - "Time, Unveiled", "Relinquish"

Ayreon - "The Universal Migrator" (two parts)

Bal-Sagoth - "The Power Cosmic"

Darkspace - "Dark Space I", "Dark Space II"

Gamma Ray - "Somewhere Out In Space"

Gustav Holst - "The Planets op. 32"

Iron Savior - "Unification"

Lunar Aurora - "Ars Moriendi", "Of Stargates And Bloodstained Celestial Spheres"

Sirius - "Fiery Strife At The Cosmic Gates Of Armageddon", "Spectral Transition - Dimension Sirius"

Steve Roach - "Space And Time", "Terraform"

Subarachnid Space - "These Things Take Time"

Robin Black and the Intergalactic Rockstars

Planet: Fame is the album. Amazing stuff. Good old Canadian Glam Rock. Their sophomore album, Instant Classic, is also a really good rock album, but they ditched the space theme that they ran with for the first one.

Get some Zolar-X, they kick ass, a proto punk group from L.A. that inspired the Germs.

Everything about their music was spacey, from the music, the lyrics, vocals, and the way they dressed on stage. Hell, they even created their own martian language that they'd communicate to each other with. They were a very good rock and roll band that don't get nearly enough credit.

Their best songs are Timeless, Rocket Roll, and Parallel Galaxy.

Bal-Sagoth kicks ass by the way.

get 'Starfire Burning...' by Bal-Sagoth too. Simply for track #8:

'And Lo, When The Imperium Marches Against Gul-Kothoth, Then Dark Sorceries Shall Enshroud The Citadel Of The Obsidian Crown'.

Catchy title, isn't it? ¬_¬

But yeah, that's all I've got for space themes, other than individual songs.

I noticed you listed Ayreon, but don't forget Arjen Anthony Lucassen's other project, Star One, and their 'Space Metal' album.

Good call on Hawkwind, too. Also, maybe Blaze's 'Tenth Dimension'.
