If he's looking for something catchy, then...

http://myspace.com/menwomenandchildren

Are they the guys.. with the song about a monkey? Or something?

If so I saw them support Lostprophets... I think.. or maybe WAS. Either way, live they were more scary than catchy, but I imagine on disc it's pretty rockin'.

Men, Women and Children are so cool, when I saw them live it was really brilliant. Bubble machines are fun. The whole album is so funky and catchy.

Amber Pacific are good. Park are fucking class. "Histrionics" by The Higher is a brilliant song, the rest sucks. Starting Line do a bitching J-Lo cover, and "Island" is a solid if uneventful song. Saosin are acceptable. Same goes for Armor For Sleep. Brandston are pretty cool, I wouldn't really list them with these kinds of bands though.

The rest I already don't particuarly like, or haven't heard of. So i'll check a few out.

And I fucking hated The Panic Division when I got their album, however I don't particuarly know why. It just totally did not click with me at all. I think it's because under the 'flash' electronic edge they are just your average american alt-rock band. And american alt-rock is the most depressing, awful genre in the world.

Why would he avoid all of these if he listed Boys night out?

Was it necessary to dig up a thread from last September to make that point?

And technically "emo" is derived from hardcore, so why shouldn't a "hardcore" publication review it? It would be like saying "How dare Metal Hammer review Cathedral, they're metal hammer, not DOOM METAL Hammer!"

Because it's an old topic from when it was just "Entertainment", and there weren't seperate TV/music places - at least that's what I'd wager.

In the words of Jello Biafra;

"Why can't all the old bands reform, stick to playing their old songs, it ain't punk if it ain't just like the old days..."

Obviously there are still good hardcore bands out there, good punk bands out there, good anything bands out there, there are ALWAYS good bands if you just look for them, and it's a pet peeve of mine when someone slags off or discredits an entire genre based on one or two bands, especially when its a genre not dis-similar to their own interests. But yawn, people are lazy.

One band and one band only ...

Hot Rod Circuit.

You will smile. You will frown. You will laugh. You will cry. At their sheer fucking brilliance. <_ but really quality band that you definitely should check out.>
