The best band of the eighties?

'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' remains my favourite cheesy love-pop song, and 'We Built this City' and 'It's Not Over 'Til It's Over' are both rad as well.

Discuss.

Motherfucker, when David Lee Roth's version of Van Halen existed in the same decade as you, there's not a damn way you're the best band in that decade.

Oh, and AC/DC released Back In Black in 1980, which rendered people having to care about "We Built This City..." completely moot because it was so awesome.

"We Built This City" is one of the most terrible, soul-less, corporate money-guzzling "rock" songs ever written. It's an utterly horrible song, by an utterly horrible band.

Jefferson Airplane: Good. White Rabbit, Somebody To Love, Rejoyce, etc, lovely. Jefferson Starship, not so much. Starship? No. Just no.

I don't get why people hate eighties-cheese so much. True, sometimes the songs aren't as meaningful as your typical...Elton John piece, but it's still great to listen to and puts a smile on your face. Well, for me at any rate.

You can't honestly tell me you don't like 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now', can you?

The best band of the 80s? Smiths say hi. As do the Cure, REM, Pixies, The Wedding Present, Dinosaur Jr., The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Mad Capsule Markets.

In fact, they're all having a party. Starship aren't invited. Ever.
