In no particular order

GTAIII(PS2): It created a genre of games basically and resulted in hundreds of clones that tried to live up to its fame

MGS2(PS2): While its arguably nowhere near what any of the other 3 MGS games are, this really got the direction of were the series was going and introduced things that have become staples of the series..the tranq gun, holding up soldiers, the "WTF" plot twists and, of course, the Patriots. Its seemed like, with the events of MGS2, 3 and 4, MGS1 was more retconned into the continuity of the rest of the series.

Super mario 64(N64): Indeed revolutionary, showing that a platformer can be playable, fun and challenging in a 3D environment.

Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time(N64): Showed what Zelda could do on the then "next gen" systems. A control system that was extreme simplistic to make the game fun that has been duplicated by the other Zelda games, and a few games on other systems, ever since.

Final Fantasy VII (PS1): Not my favorite of the series honestly. But FFVII sold systems. I know a lot of people who bought a PS1 solely for FFVII

Eternal Darkness(GC): The sanity meter is a gameplay device that should be copied in other games. The effects on the characters and gameplay that this could produce were spectacular. Who didn't look at the screen and go "what the hell?!" when everthing turned upside down..or you went to reload your weapon and it went off, shooting yourself in the head. A perfect game to play late at night with the lights off

Metroid Prime(GC): An engaging FPS that took the series in its current direction. The uproar that fans had when it was announced that MP was going to be an FPS was intense, and people wondered how Metroid, traditionally a side scrolling platform action game, would translate to an FPS. It did everything right. Good puzzles, a great storyline, and lots of action.

Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion(Xbox 360): Basically did for RPGs what GTA3 did for action games. A wide open world that was ever evolving as you played the game. Others did it first, Oblivion did it best.

Civilization Revolution: I know..it might be a bit too new to delcare it "one of the best", but this is indeed a revolutionary game. PC rooted strategy games have rarely translated well into the console envirnoment. But CivRev shows that, with a little work and ingenuity, it can not only work, but be a joy to play.

Tetris: A million clones, but the original is still the best

1. Metal Gear Solid 2 - The bosses, the graphics, tanker chapter, ninja return, lockers. Wasn't too keen on the jungle and sixties theme of MGS3 compared to MGS2

2. GTA: Vice City - To think, I wasn't gonna buy it. Until I played it. Soundtrack, feel of the city, blatant Scarface rip-off, Billie Jean.

3. Metal Gear Solid - To game that started it. Snake's 3 pixel face, the first Nikita, you vs. real tank, you vs. human tank (Raven), Mantis everything.

4. Tekken 3 - Solid fighting action, beach ball mode and the introduction of Force. 4 is good, but can be a bit awkward.

5. Burnout 3 - Superb graphics, and yet genuinely frustrating.

6. Max Payne - Bullet Time

7. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - I can't believe I forgot this! I had Manhunt here, but seriously, vs. Sonic 2? Sonic 2 had better graphics than Sonic 1, and saw the introduction of Tails. Fantastic colours, music, bosses, everything.

8. WWF Smackdown 2 - It retained the league system for titles in exhibition and had the ladder, table etc. match that SD1 lacked. Plus you could make people on CAW easilt still, no shitty same shirt, different colour options since SDvsR.

9. Black - Gun Porn and also not Halo.

10. GTA: San Andreas - Just massive.

Syphin Filter 2 ALMOST made it. I can't remember half of the PS1 games I have. :(

How the fuck did GTAIII spawn 100s of clones? I can think of maybe four, and three of them were ass.

Saints Row, True Crime, the Narc remake, the direction of the Driver series, one of the Daxter games, Mercenaries is pretty much GTA in a warzone...

1. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

2. Legend of Zelda (NES)

3. Pac-Man (Arcade)

4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

5. Super Mario World (SNES)

6. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2)

7. Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

8. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)

9. Final Fantasy II (SNES)

10. Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando (PS2)

SMB3 and Zelda were the two biggest timesucks of my junior-high years. Pac-Man, I can still stand at an arcade machine and give it hell today, bad knees and all. Vice City got my vote over GTA3 mainly because of the consummate '80s soundtrack.

1. Final Fantasy VII (PSOne)

So many hours poured in to this game, it can't not be my number one. So much to do, and a storyline I love every time I play.

2. Pokémon Emerald (GameBoy Advance)

Pokémon started again for me when Ruby & Sapphire came out and Emerald took all the things that were a bit shit in it, threw them away and made some new stuff for itself. The Battle Frontier still has me returning to it occasionally these days.

3. Tombi (PSOne)

nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, ooooh NO SWEAT! Fuck you if you didn't love this game. There's a flying dog, leaf butterflies and a fellow with bright pink hair who rides pigs around and throws them at each other. Also, there's Charles the monkey.

4. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time (PS2)

This game was amazing and got me in to the Prince Of Persia things and I now eagerly the new one.

5. Secret Of Mana (SNES)

As someone else said, why has no-one else voted for this yet. Apart from the massive leaps in difficulty (going from the forests to the witches castle and such) it's a really fun game. The spells are done very cooly and battling freely as opposed to the random encounters is something I like. (Though random encounters are fine too, see choice #1)

6. Kingdom Hearts II (PS2)

Hehehe. Xemnas = Mansex. Anyways, putting Disney & Square together, should not, by all logic, work at all. Yet it does and the storyline is so fucking complex but I enjoy it and it has similar battles to SoM (though on a 3D plain etc.). The boss battles are slightly challenging considering one of it's intended audiences and on that note there are bits I could do without in it. (Please cut out the crappy Mermaid singing Squenix. Keep Winnie The Pooh though...)

7. Monster Rancher (2 in USA, 1 in EU) (PSOne)

Insert Monster Rancher. Visit Shrine. Get CD/PSOne disc. Insert in to Playstation system when told. Place Monster Rancher back in. Now here's a kick ass monster made from your piece of crap CD. HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THAT? While writing this list, me and my little brother have just recounted Monster Rancher memories, such as me ending up with Walls or Jells all the time, or how my other brother's gargoyle snake things always died and after the seventh one, he stopped with funerals and how they were always fed on potatoes and then bitched about it and ran away for weeks on end. Erm...yeah, get it if you can.

8. The Sims 2 (PC/Mac?)

I can blame this for my no social life right? No? Crap. Man, The Sims gets worse when you compare it against other neighbourhoods. Benji says I'm a terrible Sim god, simply because of an event casually referred to as The First Great Pleasantview Fire, which claimed many lifes. They're all healthy zombies now though.

9. Pokémon Pearl (DS)

The latest in the Pokémon game franchise makes a bold attempt to use all of the DS' capabilites, but I still find it a little lacking. There's still a lot to do each day and I've yet to begin EV training a team for the Battle Tower (congrats if you know what I'm on about Pokénerd) and now My Pokémon Ranch is demanding three different Pokémon off me a day so it keeps me busy. The WiFi is nice and the GTS would work better if it seemed half the world weren't retarded. The lacking thing I think is what made me love Emerald, the Battle Frontier, but fortunately it returns in Pokémon Platinum.

10. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)

Yeah, screw Jade Cocoon

I think that's it...

Those that were considered and never made it: Civ III, Super Bomberman 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins, Battletoads, Rad Gravity, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Tekken Tag Tournament, Jade Cocoon

1) Super Mario World (SNES)

2) Chrono Trigger (SNES

3) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC/XBox)

4) Jackal (NES)

5) Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

6) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)

7) WWF Wrestlefest (Arcade) - The best pick up and play wrestling game ever made...although I suppose picking up an arcade cabinet could be tough...

8) Deus Ex (PC)

9) We Love Katamari (PS2)

10) X-Men (Arcade) - If you had six friends (or more likely, a bunch of random people who wanted to play) this was the greatest game ever...except for the poor bastard who had to play as Dazzler.

Honorable Mention: Super Mario Brothers 2, Bad Dudes, Revolution X, WWF No Mercy, Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium, Rock Band

1. Football Manager 2008 (PC) - This game (or it's predecessors anyway) pretty much got me into soccer. The amount of hours I've spent on it is ridiculous.

2. Mass Effect (360) - Was really fun the first time through. It's generally a great RPG, with the dialogue/interaction top class.

3. GTA: San Andreas (PS2) - I found this much more enjoyable than GTA IV. The storyline was great, whereas I found GTA IV a bit superficial and the storyline was very disjointed.

4. Knights of the Old Republic (PC) - Another great RPG that was absolutely killer the first time through.

5. Goldeneye 007 (N64) - This game was awesome! My Dad even played quite a bit of it. The multiplayer was incredibly enjoyable and you could spend ages playing it with mates.

6. Guild Wars (PC) - Perhaps cos I'm only playing it now, but this is a pretty damn fun MMORPG (no online fees!). Haven't actually finished, I get to a point, forget about it then start a new character <_<

7. Grand Prix 2 (PC) - Man, this game was awesome. Me, my bro and my Dad used to do 3 player championships, where each person had their own driver and the computer alternated it for us, so when we weren't playing, the PC drove for us so we kept on wishing they wouldn't fuck up. Great, great fun. Mostly because it wasn't the type where you'd finish first every race (points finishes were good results) and we played it on a difficulty which made it more realistic in that it was harder to make a mistake and go off, but when you did it could cost you a bit (unlike a lot of racing games nowadays when you spend half the race off the track). I only wished it worked on Vista :(

8. Condition Zero (PC) - I spent so many hours playing this online with a pretty good group of guys, which made it all the more fun. Some of my best gaming moments come from this game.

9. FIFA 08 (360) - Hardly a week goes by where me and my bro don't try and kick each other's ass in this game. It's great multiplayer fun, thought it can be a bit frustrating at times.

10. Rome: Total War (PC) - Fun game, though when I had it my PC was shit so I never got to play it to it's potential. I might have to pick it up (or Medieval: TW 2) for my new laptop.

Honourable mention to Goof Troop on the SNES. That was some brilliant co-op fun.

1. NASCAR Racing 2003 Season (PC) (Note for skeptics: Best racing sim ever made, NASCAR fan or not, Fuck anyone who believes otherwise)

2. Call Of Duty 4 (Xbox 360)

5. WWF Smackdown 2 (PSX)

You my friend know racing games!!! This game blows racing games away 1000x though I don't consider this a game I consider it a simulation. It's soooo much more than a game! (ok that sounds stupid, but meh) I still run leagues more than I should lol...

My top 10!

1. Nascar Racing 2003 Season - As stated above. Over 20 different types of cars over 500 different authentic tracks. Open wheels, Dirt, 1955's, Trucks & Trans Am's just to name a few.

2. Final Fantasy XI - Most will disagree, but it's a solo RPG that ate too much McDonalds. More content than any one person will ever complete. Dumb people? Don't hang out with them. You wouldn't in real life right?

3. MLB 08: The Show - Took the best baseball game (MVP 05) and added all the little things that make a baseball game great!

4. Guitarooman - The reason a payed so much for a 1st generation PS2. In my opinion this was the game that paved the way for games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Man this game was so addicting!

5. Tecmo Super Bowl - Really? Do I need to explain? The game that started it all! Online leagues still going strong!

6. SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2006 - Over 400 different wrestlers and a make your own career mode in exhibition with the game play still in tact. Last one I will buy for a long, long time!

7. Rock Band - To finally have a game that my Wife and friends can play with me is pretty sweet. Especially since they are pretty good at it makes it all the more fun.

8. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past This one? The original? I own all of them, but I never got around to play the last three and I only got half way through Ocarnia of Time, That one could have been here too. First game I owned on the SNES and was the 2nd most played outside of FFIV.

9. Grand Tourismo 2 - Did a PS1 game really have this much content? The gamplay was flawless, the different types of cars and tracks made this the first awesome console racing game!

10. Dragon Warrior I - I have to give credit to the first RPG I ever played. DWIII was the best one, but three times my best friend and I played this game all the way through in one sitting to see who could finish it first. We did the same with Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy I too, but this one took so long and looking back was so bad (level grind at it's worst) I can't believe we did it in one shot, much less three times!

It's so hard to rank them, but thats my list. I'm weird, different, yeah I know. Put FFVII (200+ Hours) up there instead of The Show and those games by far are my most played ever in pretty close to that order. NR2003 I been playing non stop since 2003 and FFXI since 2004 so those get top spots hands down! Rest is give or take...
