EWB Play-Along: Pokémon FireRed

UPDATE:

That Gyrados was so easy to get thanks to the Speed Button Always enjoy having a Dragon type in my party. Diglett, as usual, is a life saver when it comes to Surge, though I still fucking hate, HATE, when he uses Double Team. I'm looking to pick up a Growlithe next to get myself a Arcanine for the Grass Gym, and I'm in desperate need of some grinding to take my Pokemon up a few more levels. (I'm hoping to have them all around level 30 once I reach Celadon, though that depends on how high a level my Growlithe is when I pick him up.)

Just beat Misty for the Cascadebadge. Complete luck. Managed to poison Starmie before she ran through almost my entire lineup. Subbed in my last Pokémon, a level 9 Jigglypuff, and the poison got her before she could waterpulse me.

Current roster:

Bulbasaur (level 19)

Pidgey (level 15)

Jigglypuff (level 12 now thanks to the XP gain from killing Starmie)

Rattata (level 12)

Mankey (level 12)

Beedrill (level 10)

Tried to fight Gary before I fought Misty and his Pidgeotto kicked my ass, so I'm going to try to level up Mankey and give him Rock Tomb to equalize.

Trey, hit the F12 button (unless you changed what the Capture button is) when you want to take a screenshot. Then, check wherever the game file is located, and the pictures will be there. Better quality, and no window outline.

I've now come to Lavender Town, after a long mission through the cave leading up to it (name escapes me at the moment, but the one where you need Flash to get through). I traded my Spearow for a Farfetch'd, and I've been leveling it up. Gave it the 'Secret Power' TM and Farfetch'd isn't one to mess with

Wartortle can't do shit against all these Fishermen and Bug Trainers that I'm running into.

I'll see how I go before I take on anymore gyms.

Is it horrible that I bought an Abra and a Clefairy? Good ole\' game corner.

After rediscovering that I need the Silph Scope to even see the ghosts in the tower, I made my way on over to Celadon City. First thing I did was wander into a building and steal an Eevee. Gotta \'catch\' em all, right? I proceeded on to crushing Team Rocket\'s under-casino base and recovering myself a Silph Scope, and gaining a Primeape along the way. About to go take on the gym leader after I train up a Growlithe that I caught, to burn my way through her.

Mucho satisfied with how my team is coming along. Evolved my Nidorino to a Nidoking, Primeape is a beast, Farfetch\'d is awesome for some reason. My PC box is getting filled nicely, as well, to the point where I\'ve divided it into 2 boxes, 20 and above, and 19 and under. I\'m in Fuschia City and caught a Fearow, Raticate and Doduo just before the cycling path, so there\'s a couple plusses. Now I\'m saving and going to take the gym leader down tomorrow, before probably hitting up the safari zone to see what I can catch in there before moving on to the next city.

Snorlax Question: Should I keep his moves as they are? (Headbutt, Yawn, Rest, Snore)

Headbutt usually takes them out in one shot when they're around 4 levels under, and for those that do work his health down, Rest followed by Snore usually finishes them off. Yawn I've been using to put pokemon to sleep to make them easier to catch, but besides that.

Hah, I just saw this:

There was also that one called Seel, which was a Seal, and that was just kinda lazy, and it evolved into a Dewgong, which was a Dugong, which is actually a whole different species, which brings forth lots of ethical and exestential questions.

The third generation ups the ante here: Carvanha, a piranha, evolves into Sharpedo, a shark.

I don't think there are that many wtf evolutions in Pokemon, but here are two of them.

Been pretty busy training since I last left an update (didn't have much else to do while EWB was down )

I am 4/6 of the way to the final team I want to go with.

Okay so I finally started the game. Quickly began grinding with my Charmander (yeah, I picked Charmander just to spite you guys! ) and got myself a Pidgey and a Mankey, with Charmander and Pidgey at lvl 10 now and Mankey there soon as well. Also, when talking about strange evolutions; Magikarp and Gyarados anyone? Anyways I am hoping to at least get a Weedle or Caterpie when I get to that forest there, just so I stand a chance against Brock and his funny looking Pokemans.

Just beat Lt. Surge:

Decided to have a bit of fun and only catch those Ash caught in the TV show. Ran into some strife with having to teach someone cut, but apparently they had Meowth for a little bit in the show so I cheated a little bit.

Will look to catch a Pidgeotto when I can, whilst the others on offer are Tauros, Lapras, Muk, Primeape and Snorlax.

Are you going to catch thirty Tauros' too? Also, wow, for somebody living by the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" philosophy, Ash really did have fuck all going for him.

On the emulator I have (Visual Boy Advance), it won't let me save via the Pokemon Red menu. I have to save it the VBA way... which - as happened last time I played Fire Red on here - means I can't play past the Pokemon League/Credits. That means no Mewtwo and no repeats of the League or anything of that sort.
