How does the Wii not have an achievement/trophy system?

Because Nintendo haven't realised what replayability is yet.

The company that's made a big chunk of change re-releasing video games from its history via a pay-for-download system hasn't figured out what replayability is yet?

It's really all psychological about risk and reward. With Xbox 360, you'll sacrifice your time to play games, and be rewarded with gamerscore, whereas Nintendo just depend on their games being fun enough to have many hours of play without needing achievements. It works out well for them.... most of the time ¬_¬. Glad to see some Nintendo games return to their roots with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I don't know about anyone else but I didn't enjoy Donkey Konga or Super Mario Sunshine.

If your argument is that the Xbox's approach is superior you're really not doing yourself any favors with that comparison.

Not really. I never showed preference for one over the other. Xbox's approach can be more 'addictive', or 'goal-setting'. But some games you could waste your time chasing after 1,000 points to a meaningless number, when its just an awful game. Like LOST: The Video Game. Nintendo try to keep you hooked by making ALL of their games as fun as possible. Neither of these approaches work ALL the time though. Different games have different audiences. Personally, I prefer RPG's.

So what you're saying is that Nintendo is like getting together with your buddies for a night of Settlers of Catan and German beer, while XBox 360 is like a mouse in a cage punching a lever to have cocaine injected into its genitals?

I don't disagree.
