I couldn't believe that I went from being SO into current film last year when the Oscars hit to being so damn disinterested this year. I don't think I have interest in seeing a single one of the movies that were up for Best Picture.

The Artist was really good.

But then again, you might have already heard that.

I don't know if I could sit through that - perhaps one day I will when I'm in the right mood but it certainly isn't something I'm rushing to do.

I only saw one of the films nominated this year and that was The Artist, I've heard the Descendants was a good film though.

I definitely want to see The Descendants and Moneyball and sort of want to see Tree of Life.

The Descendants is very, very good. Clooney is fantastic and the film deals with a lot of interesting issues, I really enjoyed it. Hugo is great, too. Definitely worth a watch.

Tree of Life and Moneyball never came to my cinema, so I'll have to wait for the DVD's for them.

Edit: Was Girl with the Dragon Tattoo nominated for best picture? That's definitely up there for my favourite film of the year.

Moneyball is on my list of films to watch as well. I was going to see Tree of Life but never did. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was not nominated.

It was releases pretty darn close to the cut off date. Not that I'm saying the Academy is slack on making their decisions but that could be a small factor.

While it wasn't nominated for Best Picture, Rooney Mara was nominated for Best Actress. It won for Best Achievement in Film Editing and was nominated for 3 other technical awards.

Well the Academy can choose up to 10 nominees but they only chose 9 films this year. I don't see why they couldn't nominate it anyway regardless of the fact it wouldn't have won.

It wasn't a matter of "let's just nominate another one," the nominations were done by a process where the Best Picture nominees had to be on a certain percentage of the ballots.

If anything, I'd like to scale back the number of Best Picture nominees. An old argument now, I know.

I like it being this large, honestly. It usually allows some more interesting nominees than the fields of five often put forth.
