I think this piece that Jenn Frank wrote gets at what I think is a good purpose for why this series should exist. It takes a lot of stock in Sarkeesian's first minute of noting that we can get enjoyment out of things that are also problematic, but also plays with the idea of if problematic things can be intentional or lazy story-making.

There are a bunch of things in these games that might make the specific things I'm discussing relevant to the plot or logical within the games universe, but ignore all that and consider the broader implications: my arguement.

I do like that at the end she begins to talk about the broader scope of the problem with the writing; not that it specifically is written to puinish women but also that it's designed to demasculinize the male character, forcing them to find their purpose and their masculinity in the only way they can; a violent quest for revenge.

I gave her shit earlier for not mentioning that so good on her for including it in this video.

This is especially striking with the GTA 3 shooting. Bringing something like up via GTA is about as good as complaining about a single joke in any given SouthPark Episode while ignoring that the show is not pulling punches on anyone.
