Far Cry 5

This is fun so far. Extremely mild spoilers:

Spoiler

Spent the first part being like "this doesn't feel like Far Cry." Realised it was the tutorial and, literally instantly upon setting foot in another region, all hell broke loose.

Yep, this is Far Cry.

Put about 4 hours in today. Plenty of variety in everything I've done so far, and that's without touching any of the side missions, which by all accounts are some of the best in the game.

Haven't bought a fishing rod yet, but did invest in a good rifle and equipped red dot sight and a suppressor. I like the challenges that pop up in order to unlock perk points. Some of the hunting ones look fun, but I'll wait until I'm doing co op for that.

Ok I bought it. Don't have time to play tonight but for those that have how soon do I get the dog? That's literally all I care about right now

The intro will take about an hour, and once the game opens up there'll be a mission on your map at the pumpkin farm, where "Boomer" is mentioned. Do that.

Also, it starts on Normal by default, so go to the pause menu/gameplay to change it if you need to.

You're free to explore, find and complete missions at your own leisure once you're out of the tutorial stage. You'll know when that is. As soon as the rest of the map opens up, head straight to Rae-Rae's Pumpkin Farm in John's region. It isn't too far away from where you begin the game.

Only played about an hour so far, will delve further once I have the time. I got The Gold Edition, how do I get Far Cry 3 Classic Edition as well? Couldn't find it in the menus or the store. Also how do I use Guns for Hire, do they just join me?

You will either come across them at set locations, or some hostages that you free while exploring will bring up the option to be hired after liberating. You can store up to 3 on speed dial to call upon at any one time, each usually has a particular trait (i.e. sniper, solider, archer). There are 9 (I think) 'specialists' that you unlock by doing missions too, and they're much better than the regular guns for hire.

Also @The Chiksrara Special, I would strongly advise to get the dog (counts as a Specialist Gun For Hire) first, then try to find two other specialists in John's region and complete their missions too. Save up your perk points while doing so. This will unlock the 'Leadership' perk which you can then upgrade in the perks menu, and allows you to have two Guns For Hire with you at any one time, which should make the game easier for you. They're not perfect, but they actually do kill enemies in battle pretty consistently, and come with other helpful things like being able to revive you if you "die" provided they get to you before being killed themselves.

There's a few health bonus perks worth getting early on too. I've got two of them (think there's 3?) up to now and that will pretty much double the health you begin the game with.

Is there anything to upgrade that lets me carry more than 3 medkits? Couldn't find it last night.

There is, but I can't remember where I saw it. The upgrade lets you carry 5, but I don't know if it was a perk or something else.
