Did they completely overhaul their combat engine?  Because the combat in Bethesda's Fallout games has never made me go "Oooh it would be fun to fight other players"

Nope, its a rebuilt version of Fallout 4, with multiplayer jury rigged into it.

It is confirmed that you can set up private lobbies and theoretically play completely solo, but that will come when they're ready for mod support.

Honestly, maybe you just want to explore alt-West Virginia for a while without people bothering you. The map looked beautiful.

It's not like Bethesda is any good at making interesting NPCs or compelling end game content anyway, so why not?

That's why I am so torn. It looks beautiful, but fuck other people.

I just want a mod that turns it into a full solo player experience. They can keep humans out of it; make all the NPCs sloth bears, I would be cool with that.

Bethesda are usually pretty good at the "first idiot who tried it, wins", like when a dude ordered Fallout 3 with bottle caps.

So there's a total conversion mod in the works that aims to recreate Fallout 76 inside the Fallout 4 engine.

They're removing 95% of humanoids including everyone involved in quests and leaving only generic shopkeepers.

They'll be replaced with NPCs designed to simulate human griefing, including trashtalking, PK and TKing.

Some unique-ish sounding systems to combating griefing - I'm wondering if flagging yourself as a pacifist puts you entirely out of the PVP system or just signals intent. Sounds better that it did when we first heard about it - but still a probable pass for me.

In the comments it is also pointed out that if someone is labeled a murderer, they can't see anyone else's character on the map, but everyone else can see the murderers
