    Album of the year

My shortlist of Album of the Year candidates: Volume One - She and Him Rockferry - Duffy Seldom Seen Kid - Elbow The Anti Mother - Norma Jean Intervals - See You Next Tuesday Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace - The Offspring All Hope is Gone - Slipknot Fear Before - Fear Before Ghost of the Saltwater Machines - Architect The Fathomless Mastery - Bloodbath Honorable Mentions: You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into - Does it Offend You, Yeah? (great stuff but not great enough) This is Exile - Whitechapel (too bad only half the album is good) Servile Insurrection - Severed Saviour (the jazzy and folk interludes ruin it for me) Narrow Stairs - Death Cab For Cutie (just too man good albums came out after this) United Nations - United Nations (see above) On the opposite side of things these were my biggest disappointments: The March - Unearth (how the hell did this band go from something awesome like "The Oncoming Storm to this shit) Dystopia - Beneath The Massacre (maybe my expectations were too high, it just wasn't good)
  2. I never got into the Sheild but I'm thinking after it's done I'll watch season one and see if it catches on with me. With F/X's other shows I really liked The Riches and was sad to hear that it was canceled. I'm a big "Sunny" fan and I too wish I started watching it sooner. I ended up watching the first few season all right in a row to catch up for the current season. Son's of Anarchy is good but I haven't seen the last three episodes. I'll have to catch up at some point. It'll probably get canceled though.
  3. My quick thoughts on it involve two things, A: Rolling Stone never gets anything right, and B: Top 100's are based heavily on things outside of what the topic of what the Top 100 in question is about. P.S, Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears should have been somewhere in there between 100-50.
  4. That took me a good 5-6 tries to get through. I beat the game earlier today after only 6-7 hours of gameplay. I'm pretty disappointed that it wasn't longer. Maybe I've been spoiled by games like GTA IV and Saints Row 2 that have 20+ hours of gameplay and Fire Pro which is pretty much endless. I wish they could take a game the quality of Gears and extend it maybe 4-5 hours to get over the 10 hour hump. I had a blast playing the game outside of a couple parts I thought were a little cheap. Nice pacing, good story, and fantastic gameplay. Not a game of the year contender due to some other games this year but on any other year it'd probably take it pretty easily. I haven't played multiplayer yet because Xbox screwed up my Live payment but I don't have much interest in online playing anymore anyways. Too many screaming kids who think swearing makes you cool.
  5. It's not bad man. Sort of a metalcore Black Dahlia Murder. I like the take on the chuggy breakdown type riffs towards the beginning, instead of the drummer just playing a 4/4 beat he mixes it up. I'd certainly listen to more songs.
  6. The best show I've been to was one I actually booked, basically because I booked my two favorite bands. I doubt any of you would know them but the two headliners were Ed Gein and Engineer. Two great bands if you're into anything that Botch did. It was a fantastic show from seeing them play one after another to being able to share the bill with them (my band at the time opened). Attendance was great as the place was so full you could barely walk around. I made a profit on the show to boot. As far as on a giant scale with world touring bands it would probably have to be the Pledge of Allegiance Tour back in 01 or 02. Slipknot, Rammstein, System of a Down, American Head Charge, and No One. While I don't listen to any of those bands anymore outside of Rammstein and Slipknot, it was a phenomenal. It was before System of a Down was all about politics and they played their whole set with a porn movie playing behind them. Rammstein had enough pyro to blow up a city and Slipknot was just plain awesome. I've been to Slipknot shows with people who don't like them and left saying "Man, that was a good show". They get a bad rap due to lots of their fans being total idiots but they bring the goods live. I'm really hoping Rammstein comes back here after their next album comes out.
