  1. The remake is really great as long as you don't expect it to be either a direct remake or even just a retelling. Some really basic concepts and scenes are still there (being in a mall, some scenes with mall music, etc.) but it is really a complete different story. I actually like it just as much as the original, but for completely different reasons. The original is a better movie, but the remake appeals more to the slasher fan in me.
  2. Combined, I think my wife and I have more Headnoise CDs than anything else. I think that's only about five CDs though, as our music collection is pretty spread out. (Literally and metaphorically :ohwell: ) EDIT: Actually, I probably have more Blink 182 CDs, which is a little disappointing because I don't really listen to them anymore.
  3. Oh yeah, don't forget to watch Dead Alive, which is intentionally funny without being too stupid. Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame directed it. Also, Bubba Ho-Tep might be down your alley as well. This one is intentionally funny as well, but in a more straightforward comedy/horror way (unless you don't believe that a movie can belong to multiple genres, then the debating possibilites are excrutiatingly endless ).
  4. Even though the filmmakers say it isn't technically a zombie movie (it basically is), 28 Days Later is worth seeing. A lot of zombie fans really like Lucio Fulci's Zombie, although I don't think it's on par with Romero's work.
  5. I'd be willing to bet that the boat that was given to Desmond was rigged to somehow put him on the island too. It seems like her father would have done a lot to make him stay away from her. Pretty good episode. The cliffhanger wasn't enormous, but there are enough things unresolved to hold my interest. Plus, it's not nearly as frustrating as last year's.
  6. Good job of ignoring my point. If the film's intention is to scare you, it's a horror movie. Just like if a film's intention is to make you laugh, it's a comedy. Genre isn't defined by audience response, it's defined by the codes and conventions of the text. I didn't laugh at American Pie. Does that mean it's not a comedy? By your logic, apparently so. And it is possible for a film to fall into two genres. Some of the films I listed may have been sci-fi films, but they're also horror films.
  7. Can Nickelback sue Nickelback?
  8. The Haunting, I think, is a really suspenseful and scary and, aside from the creepy door effect, all it had was banging noises. And depending on who you are, the Blair Witch Project is pretty scary and his minimal blood and no seen villain.
  9. Who's hanging on the cross? It doesn't seem like anyone here's making a big deal out of it.
  10. It might be a good movie like the other recent 9/11 film, but I feel the same way about both of them in that I would just rather not watch a film about 9/11 yet.
  11. I'm happy that Lost is maintaining it's timeslot. I changed a work night from Wednesday night to Sundays so that I could leave Wednesdays open, as my wife and I both enjoy staying home to watch Lost together. Changing it to Thursdays would mean that I'd be working a shitty Sunday night shift for no good reason.
  12. I don't understand why any respectable person; race, sexual preference, nationality etc... would deem at acceptable to use any derogatory term to classify themselves. And I certainly can't see how anyone can justify one derogatory term for another. Maybe it's because I would never disrespect someone and call them a nigger, wetback, queer, fag, or anything else if that word is used to describe them. And I wouldn't accept anyone calling me a Nazi just because of my German heritage for the same reasons. While I think you meant well, your examples sort of outweighed the idea you were trying to supply. Sounds like Nazi logic to me.

  14. Dane Cook, no doubt. I would list some quotes, but I'm sure half of the board will take care of that. Actually, here's a video of some of my favorite jokes. I love the car alarm bit.
  15. So you liked the first half of like the first episode then?
  16. I'm not following. Since a self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that, in being made, actually causes itself to become true, is that a knock on the critics? Or was that just a misinterpretation of a self-fulfilled prophecy?
  17. For your convenience. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
  18. I echo HT's sentiments. none of the twists are lame. And if you start to feel like things are slowing down too much, hang in there because it will definitely start to kick into high gear before too long.
