  1. Wonder if the FIA can legally (or at least unofficially) blacklist Briatore from participating in F1 in any capacity, including managing drivers.
  2. West probably believes all publicity is good publicity, but I don't think he'd want to be labeled the most hated man in America.
  3. Ack! I hit the Reply instead of Edit button. Sorry about that >_<
  4. I can understand Eminem and Bruno being a stunt that had MTV's blessing, but why would Kanye West agree to something that would expose him to this much ridicule and criticism? I don't think stealing another singer's face time is going to result in more interest in his music. I WOULD like to see him as a future guest host for RAW, though. He'd make a fantastic heel GM.
  5. Holy fuck, now that's a headline.
  6. So it's now either Federer gets number 16, or del Potro becomes the giant killer of the tourney.
  7. Or he's just a driver who's damn exciting and makes F1 watchable at times? Just because he had a crash today doesn't make him a poor driver. And sorry, but poor drivers don't win championships, so your claim is ridiculous. I know you've got something against the guy just because he's popular and all, but there's no need to start talking sheer rubbish and claiming he's a poor driver, when he's actually a fantastic driver. Please do not make assumptions, I do not dislike him or anyone because they are 'popular'. In fact, most F1 fans I know do not like him (admittedly that is around half a dozen people, but my point stands'. I think I did word it wrong looking back, I've made the point before that anyone in F1 cannot be a bad driver, so really I chose my words wrongly. But, he is not a great driver, and makes far too many rookie mistaks for a supposed world champion. I don't like him because of his attitude, which has improved this season, and because he seems to have been groomed for the McLaren seat since a young age. Also, things like the ridiculous goings on in Australia just show him to be a detestable man, and things like that won't endear him to everybody. For me, everybody jumped on the bandwagon purely because he's British, and was immediately successful. Or maybe it's just because he's black And what's wrong with jumping on the bandwagon? People do tend to support someone being labeled the next big thing, especially if the guy actually lives up to the hype. It's not as if Hamilton is doing Piquet Jr. levels of fail. The guy may have started out as a novelty, but he has managed to deliver.
  8. Kinda harsh to rubbish the guy as a poor driver when he managed to win a race. It can't be all down to luck. But damn, Hamilton overdid it at Monza :/ On another note...go Reubens for WDC!
  9. Nelson Piquet Jr. was interviewed by the FIA, which has made its way to the media. http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21798.html Full statement below, bolded portions are what I've highlighted. The gist is he's alleging Briatore and Symonds asked him to crash his car in Singapore to help Alonso win.
  10. Belatedly dusting off this thread for the US Open. And Kim Clijsters is on a great roll. But now I'm torn between rooting for her and Li Na, as they're going head-to-head in the quarterfinals.
  11. Certainly a high-risk/high-reward situation for Fisi. I've read Ferrari actually have an unwritten rule about not having Italians as their main drivers because the tifosi would magnify their fan rage if their countrymen didn't do well. But him leaving Force India when the team are finally doing well... I hope Fisi does a great job with Ferrari.
  12. Ouch, Hamilton's pit crew messed up. Go Rubens! >_>
  13. If that's the argument, it's the fault of the other teams for not being able to actually provide competition to Ferrari.
  14. My inner fan would really like to see Schumi back, winning races and scoring podiums for the remainder of the season. But regardless of how much Ferrari would want to downplay it, if they go ahead and convince Schumi to take over Massa's seat, it is going to be overhyped, with Schumacher likely not being able to live up to expectations of winning at least one race or scoring a podium finish. And even though his legacy as (arguably) F1's greatest driver is secure, people are still going to talk about "how he shouldn't have come back" because he can't deliver at the same level as he's used to. I don't really want that happening to him; it'll be like watching Michael Jordan's final season, doing his best but just not being able to match the play of his younger opponents. I'm conflicted. Good for Ferrari for being willing to go to a proven commodity to try and salvage their season, but Schumacher would likely be hailed as a has-been if he can't score a podium, let alone win a GP. EDIT: Whoa, speculation that BMW may leave Formula 1 after this season. EDIT 2: BMW have made it official. Nelson Piquet, Jr. will likely be future-endeavored before the next race, after saying Briatore "doesn't understand s*** about F1".
  15. Perhaps it was unfair, but Bourdais didn't exactly prove his critics wrong, and recent public statements the team made regarding him weren't exactly supportive. If Toro Rosso weren't willing to publicly support the guy, it may have been a lousier situation for him behind the scenes. It was probably better for him to leave a bad situation. Through no fault of his own, Alguersuari's got a lower bar to hurdle (i.e., Bournais' performance). He finished the race ahead of his partner on his first F1 GP, so he's gonna be considered a good pick. His performance will likely have some influence on Renault's decision on whether to keep Piquet, Jr.
  16. Managed to find a screencap of the debris that caused Massa's accident: For what it's worth, Niki Lauda suggested drafting Michael Schumacher back to the Ferrari driver's seat. My inner Schumi fanboy would like to see that happen, but I'll be very surprised if he even manages to score a podium, let alone win a race. Was able to watch the GP on tape delay. Glad to see Hamilton get the win, even if it is probably too late for him to defend the title.
  17. Eh, I don't fault Lashley for not biting at this. I would've liked to see how he fares against Fedor, too; but he's been content to take small steps building his MMA career.
  18. Fuck, add Bruce Willis there! Planet Hollywood reunion!
  19. Shit, didn't even realize there's a race this weekend. Webber leading, possibly to win? Another sign of the Apocalypse! I kid, I kid. Would actually be very cool to see Webber finally win one, though I'll admit I was hoping Vettel would take this race. EDIT: Awesome that his dad's there to share this victory with him. You could feel a weight being lifted off his back through his victory cheer.
  20. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES Roddick played the fucking game of his life. I'd be rooting for him if he was playing against anyone other than Federer. Incredible match. An incredible match. Wimbledon, where it all began. Federer should take that trophy home for getting #15
  21. Roddick's just returning all those aces Federer dished out. Federer's gotta figure out how to counter that power serve. Aaaagh, nailbiting!
  22. Because Shakespeare and everyone who saw his plays at the Globe were all dust when motion pictures came out. I wonder how many of the duels of the time were between "true fans" arguing about how fake the Scottish brogue of the MacBeth cast were
  23. That's cold man. I share your sentiment, though. Go Federer >_>
