Something that works in literature and television doesn't necessarily work in video gaming. And the absence of any gratification started to get really really tiring by the midway point of the series. Where again, there was no right answer and any choice you made ended up shoving you facefirst in shit.

TellTale really went out of their way to not just refuse you big victories, but to refuse you any sort of victories how small they might've been, because at all times you were just being pushed down to the floor to make it clear you were getting shafted left, right, and center.

Personally of all post TWDS1 series, Game of Thrones was the weakest one in both story and enjoyability. Whilst games like TWDS1/S2, Borderlands, and especially The Wolf Among Us were just awesome games that also didn't give you instant satisfaction, but still gave you those small victories that made it feel like your actions mattered - rather than did nothing at all.

I don't disagree.  That feeling is why I stopped reading the books, and why I don't watch the show.  Hell, it's why I stopped watching Sons of Anarchy too.

But no remorse or respite is pretty much dead on with the spirit of the series.

It was a bit too Game of Thrones-y for my liking, and every moment you felt that you had gotten some sort of minor victory, the rug was pulled out from under you and the game made sure to shove your nose into shit, and rub it around for good measure.

The entire Forrester family had Sansa-genes.

So you're saying it's exactly like the books.

I'd be down, @Maxx, @Lowerdeck, @The Canadian Destroyer@Buscha Syndergaard, @Cloudy, @thatshortguy, @EddieG, @Jasonmufc, @Blaze09, @The EVIL Overlord, and @KevinStorm are all people that would appear to have the game. That's thirteen counting you and me (just once). I'd say if we can get six or eight out of that, it'd be a success. But we'll see when they all notice they've been tagged!

Also, if we only get six or eight people we should definitely do an 1871 game.

My copy is...ah...from the "store" so I don't think I can play.

Hitting square is definitely boom-or-bust from what I've seen.  I've hit nearly all of my home runs just from the standard X swing.

This.  Power hit is when you want to knock one out of the park, but you sacrifice the "sweet spot" in the strike zone so you have to hit it nearly perfectly to do anything but fly out.  Contact swing is the opposite, minimize power and maximize the amount of the strike zone you can hit in.  Basically with a contact swing you're just trying to get the bat to touch the ball somehow, whether it be putting the ball in play or fouling it away.  Regular swing is in between the two.

I've realized its inevitable that I'm going to start a random debut game in the late 1800s.  Really hoping Jose Canseco is around from the start.

Also in my Devil Rays game, I'm still ruining every rookie pitcher I come across if they are only one star rated from the start.  Mark Prior was thankfully the exception, came in at 4 star rated right from the get go and immediately had a 21-8 season.  Now I just draft pitchers and trade them away.

Use the 20-80 scale for everyone.  It makes ratings a lot more meaningful.  Also, overall ratings don't mean much.  Use specific ratings as a guide instead.  And check personalities.  A lower-rated player with a very high work ethic will do better than a player with very low work ethic and a higher rating.

  6. I have a Cubs game I started on last year's game that I imported.  It's loads of fun.  Still haven't made the World Series and I'm in 2020, but I've had a couple playoff appearances.

I was looking forward to trying the diamond dynasty mode, but it seems way more convoluted than the ultimate team modes I'm used to. How do you use equipment cards and stadiums? What's the best way to set your lineup? I used the automatic setting but it kept putting center fielders in left field and things like that.

It's less convoluted than Madden Ultimate Team.

Are there any FPS games (single or multiplayer) out there on Steam where you can target a body part, and it actually affects it? For example, you shoot someone in the arm, they can't use it.

Arma 3 has part-specific damage if you add the ACE mod.  It doesn't exactly stop you from using damaged parts, but if one or both legs are heavily damaged you can't jog or run, and the more wounded you are the harder it is to aim.

it has never come across my mind to ever buy Kerbal Space Program. That is like the opposite idea of fun for me.

It's really rewarding when you accomplish a goal.

On the other hand it's really infuriating when you get a Kerbal all the way to the Mun and he dies because the ship runs out of fuel on the descent to the surface and gravity picks its speed up so much it explodes on impact.

  10. Jesus the MyCareer story is so awful.  Terrible character development.  No player choice at all even when it acts like you're going to get to choose something.  Everyone talks about you like some big superstar when your starting stats are terrible and you get drafted in the 20s somewhere.  I wish they would have just kept it like the usual MyCareer.

You likely won't breeze through the first one.

Also! Make sure you get the Long War mod for it. Apparently it makes the game so much better.

If by "better" you mean "agonizingly more difficult," yes.  I love TLW, but god it's impossible.

Getting it Thursday. Will report back on all the horrible ways your namesakes die.

Their sacrifice will not be in vain then.

The reviews have been great...and I really want it, but I am broke at the moment. Stupid awesome games.

I can't justify dropping $60 for it myself, so I'm going to make myself wait for a sale.

They could do that as part of the game. Starcraft just started having Tournaments of part of the multiplayer. It´s were you get your ass handed to you even harder.

I don't think I could possibly get my ass handed to me on Starcraft any more than I already have.
