Stephen Ireland is fantastic, but he doesn't seem like the type of player Chelsea would go after to replace Joe Cole. Is the talk of Newcastle having no transfer budget coming from the statement they put on the website? Apparently "capital outlay" means long-term expense, so that would suggest to me we won't be spending a lot, but not that we won't have any money to spend. I think we'll do alright if we get a couple in, providing we don't sell anyone.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Puma kits, hopefully they'll do something retro- looking like they have with the Tottenham shirt. I can't remember the last Newcastle shirt I've really liked either.

I had trouble with beating him too, untill I tried Irish Whipping them both into the same corner, so the second one kind of splashes the first (hopefully I described that well enough). It took Orton out for long enough to pin JBL for me, so if anyone is stuck on that match, the Irish Whip thing is worth a try.

Yeah, it was at my end too. I just couldn't believe he didn't score. He redeemed himself with his finish later on, thankfully. I don't think Newcastle deserved the win though.

It's very possible. I tend to think either Ashley's terms of sale are ridiculous, or people are taking one look at how the club is being run and instantly want nothing to do with it. I hope Hughton doesn't get the the job full time. We may have won games this season, but of all the games I've watched I don't think we've put in a really good performance yet. I think the wins are to do with teams either paying us too much respect, or the difference in quality between the players, but not anything of Hughton's doing. Seems like a nice bloke but I don't think he has the balls to be the manager full time.

Playing the demo and then a quick game on '09, this felt like a step backwards to me. Passing feels a lot more awkward and sluggish, as does shooting. Can't remember the last time I didn't end up buying both PES and FIFA, but I won't buy this.

Very happy with Lovenkrands coming back. He was good for us last season and we desperately need more players in. Kranjcar for the rumoured 2-3 million is robbery. Great deal for Tottenham there, adding to their already fantastic squad.

I was still playing Football Manager 2007 until I found a 09/10 Update for FM'08 last week. I wasn't any good at all on '09, and didn't really like '08, so I've just stuck with '07.

Optimistic, but very nervous about the game today. Steven Taylor's said all the right things pre-season in terms of the squad being more of a unit now, but I'll believe it when I see it. It'd be nice to see the team working for eachother on the pitch though.
