  1. Scandinavia is a really good hunting ground for players on this FM! I started a career with Wolves and out of curiosity looked at which players Bjorn Sigurdarson shared an agent with. I then earned a place on said agent's favoured personnel list by buying up all his clients. Celso Borges, Simen Brenne, Knut Olav Rinderoy and Tarik Elyounoussi were all really impressive. I also experimented with a Brazilian style 4-2-2-2 formation which has worked surprisingly well; we finished 2nd in the Championship and have beaten Arsenal 3-0 and Chelsea 2-1 so far this season, alongside a 1-1 draw with Man City. However, because I'm exceptionally disloyal I've just left Wolves 10th in the Premier League for Norwich. We're 18th in the table but bafflingly finished 6th in 2012-2013, which means I take over with the team top of their Europa League group. We're also in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup, where we face a winnable game against Bristol City. I'm already regretting the decision a bit because I think I was blinded by their European status; we've got a much smaller budget than Wolves so if we don't win in Europe or qualify for it again with the League Cup I've taken a step backwards. On the plus side, I may well be bringing Ronaldinho to Carrow Road in January. It is a tough choice between either him or the aforementioned Simen Brenne!
  2. Di Canio might just keep them up through sheer willpower alone but this isn't a smart long term appointment. Good for Miliband as well.
  3. Seconded. Sunderland, QPR, and perhaps a late collapse from Stoke? That would be ideal.
  4. We got to watch the Brazil game with England biscuits! Our teacher used the defeat to claim that it was the taking part that counts. Things were just better in 2002 than they are now.
  5. I fully expect Blackburn's season to end with the Venkys standing amidst the smouldering ruins of Ewood Park.
  6. Reading could do far worse than Curbishley, he did a pretty good job at West Ham and at one point seemed to be taking Charlton into the Champions League. I don't know why he's always passed up when these jobs come around.
  7. In semi-amusing bug news, I've just been asked whether Edgar Davids could usurp the injured John Terry in the heart of my Chelsea defence. I would say there is a very strong chance of that happening.
  8. We should all be excited for it because without it we would almost certainly never get to see Spain vs. Tahiti.
  9. Is Colchester manager Joe Dunne unfathomably good in anyone else's game? So far he's strolled to League 1 with Colchester, then took them to the brink of the play-offs before leaving for Aston Villa in the Premier League, where he took them from the relegation zone to a final position of 7th. I suppose it's relatively early in his career at the moment but I was surprised to see him achieve so much success so quickly.
  10. Being as this apparently is a thread filled with negativity, I feel I should post occasionally to remind people that I am delighted with how things are going at Charlton Athletic; we have a universally popular manager, a talented squad tailored towards good football, and in spite of our disappointing defeat to Sheffield Wednesday today we are still comfortably clear of the relegation zone with a faint hope of the play-offs. I love the Npower Football League!
  11. Tom Waits is fantastic. I think I first came across his name on EWB and I was intrigued enough to listen to some of his earlier work. I thought it was brilliant. But then I got onto Swordfishtrombones and now I think I'm becoming obsessed. I bought Rain Dogs and wouldn't let myself listen to it until I finished my exams, and tonight I got to listen to it! It is just so wonderful, Waits tells such incredible stories, his voice fits them like a glove, and every song just sounds perfect. Clap Hands, Jockey Full of Bourbon, Gun Street Girl... so many highlights. So, in short, I love Tom and I think I want to be his best friend.
  12. I think Elsie is brilliant. Sometimes it feels a bit like Gas-Lite Anthem (a terrific pun and I'm sure you will all agree) but on the whole I think it's probably my second favourite Fallon work behind The '59 Sound. Sugar, Black Betty & The Moon and Blood Loss are all terrific.
  13. I think 2D classic definitely helps with the match-engine bugs. I've been cycling through careers quite quickly so far losing interest as my players repeatedly fire wide from 30 yards, but since experimenting at Norwich in 2D things have become a lot more realistic. Even if I'm still not doing particularly well.
  14. Having messed about with Tottenham a bit to ease into the game, I've now started a proper career with Bournemouth. All I need to do is manage Watford and I'll have quickly completed the Lineker Achievement. I've made an underwhelming start with 1 win, 1 defeat and 3 draws in the league to accompany exiting the League Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the first hurdle, but we're playing reasonably well and I've got plenty of money for transfers and a deep squad, so I'm hopeful we can at least achieve a top half finish this season, then push for promotion next time out.
  15. Diego Maradona is apparently taking over as the manager of the Iraqi national team. I see no way that could possibly go disastrously wrong.
  16. I think he's done OK. They got off to a good start to the season, had a terrible run of form over Autumn, but have shown signs of recovery in the last two or three games. Bakary Sako is a contender for signing of the season. I can understand the dissatisfaction of Wolves fans but I'd be giving him time if he was managing my team.

  18. Goodbye Lenin is so much fun, a really quirky, inventive film. I definitely recommend it.
  19. I agree that the match preview isn't the best, though I'd say it's more to do with the fact that he's decided to ramble on about Brendan Rodgers' team selection in the Anzhi game for no apparent reason, instead of Chelsea-Man City. ()
