  1. I really really like the new Janelle Monae, at first listen I think I prefer it to the ArchAndroid. It's got more of an instant appeal to it and I think it flows really nicely. There's lots of really really fun songs and the interludes make me chuckle. Hooray for it!
  2. Can anyone recommend some good, free news podcasts? Something serious but accessible, and with a focus on British/international stories, since I already keep up with American events fairly well.

      MDK

The Bugle, its news but its also satire and it focuses on American and British stuff

      Excellent, thank you :)

  3. I'd like to put forward Ricardo Vaz Te to Reading as the official Sources close to the Player EWB Transfer Twitter Deadline Day rumour.
  4. This is the worst post. Actually, it's... In fairness, I can certainly understand why someone wouldn't like either the Smiths or the Cure. I mean, I'm 18 years old and I've never had a girlfriend, of course the Smiths are my favourite band, but when you consider the mixture of misery and offbeat humour in the lyrics, and what an abrasive personality Morrissey is, and just how relentless the critical acclaim for them is, they're going to let some people down. And the Cure are arguably even worse for misery and weirdness.
  5. There's not a single aspect of Justified that isn't totally bad-ass.
  6. Harry Redknapp deserves a mention.
  7. I know this is probably common knowledge for everyone else, but in The Simpsons episode 'Lisa's Wedding,' SAUL FUCKING BERENSON plays her British fiance? This is madness..
  8. I wrote a blog about Chelsea Manning and Transphobia. Any page views and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated :)http://jackhasopinions.wordpress.com/2013/08/23/the-damsel-was-carried-up-there-by-a-dragon/

  9. I know, I just need to blame someone other than myself. As long as I don't miss out on the title by one point...
  10. Not liking the 3pm rule right now Anyway, Newport.
  11. There was that guy who added two or three perfect players to his Canada team and then talked about his 2-0 win over America or something as if it wasn't a miserable underachievement considering the talent he now had in his squad.
  12. I've been listening to lots of Steve Earle recently. I think when he's on form he really does rival the likes of Springsteen in terms of storytelling ability and insights into American culture. It's a pity he's not on form often enough.
  13. You need to use extended to get anything resembling a clear picture of the game really.
  14. the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad season 2. I just feel so emotionally drained.
  15. Is Treme worth getting into? On the one hand I'm really interested in American society and culture and this seems like it might tick that box, plus with it ending soon it won't keep running away from me like Mad Men does. But I've heard kind of mixed reviews and it seems like a rather heavy show, which I'm not sure I really want right now.
  16. I wrote a blog about David Cameron's war on porn. I would say it's the greatest piece of writing in history, but I am a little biased. http://jackhasopinions.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/sticky-hormonal-vault/

Because I always add unnecessary dashes when I'm not paying enough attention. I will go back and change them!

  17. When I grow up I essentially want to be Bernard Black

    1. Skummy

      Skummy

I am grown up, and I basically am Bernard Black.

      Are you leather-bound Bernard Black?

  18. Laura Marling, Rambling Man. I'm slightly proud that that's my angsty teenager song rather than terrible pop-punk. Tom Waits, Shore Leave. This was when I realised what I wanted to be when I grew up; "Tom Waits." This ambition has been thwarted by the fact I'm a middle class English geek, but a man can dream. A man can dram. (Edit: or 'dream,' even.)
  19. Requiem for a Dream. It's great, incredibly powerful, but the misery is so relentless that I just want to put the film out of my mind and pretend I've never seen it.
  20. It's going to be in the double figures at least, the only question is whether Spain ease off a little bit at any point in the game. I'm going with 21-0.
  21. I really enjoyed it, especially the bits with Bradley Whitford in because Bradley Whitford was in them, but I did think there was quite a lot of horror in that, by design, wasn't all that scary. I think I liked the film more upon reflection than I did when I was actually watching it.
  22. It looks like they've taken a standard shirt and then put a carpet sample on the front.
