  1. Yeah, I just meant that Liverpool are not in Europe this season, and I think will be top six next time around.
  2. Man City for the league, Pellegrini is a fantastic manager, he'll adapt quicker than Moyes to the job, and their squad is stronger than Chelsea's. Arsenal could have one of their better years in a while if they spend some money. Liverpool to get back into Europe. Crystal Palace, Cardiff and... Norwich perhaps to go down? I really think Steve Bruce is a decent manager and will have enough about him to keep Hull up. This is not an opinion shared by the rest of EWB.
  3. I don't know, maybe it's just different kinds of fandom. I support Charlton despite having no connection to London whatsoever, as a contrary seven year old I just wanted to follow someone different to my friends and picked them at random from the Premier League table. The reason I've kept supporting them is a mixture of childhood nostalgia, the entertaining last decade we've had, and the fact that it's a genuinely friendly football club that I look forward to visiting or travelling with (in contrast, my Dad supports Coventry, and they loathe themselves so viciously I've felt quite uncomfortable watching them play once or twice.) If the kit changed colour tomorrow because it brings some extra-revenue to the club I really wouldn't care. It isn't why I follow them and it isn't why I developed an emotional attachment to the team. Maybe I'm unique in this and fair enough, I suppose, if so, but stuff like saying you love your club so much you can't bear the thought of them changing their shirt colour and then proving this by tearing up your season ticket and boycotting them just seems mad to me. If it's a Wimbledon/MK Dons situation, fair enough, but over a colour?
  4. I'm not surprised it's happened, just the level of discontent bemuses me. If my team said 'OK we're not playing in red anymore we're playing in blue because CHANGE" it would annoy me, but not to the extent I'd attend a rally and tear up my season ticket. But Cardiff are changing their kit colour for well-meaning financial reasons, and it just seems a bit petty to me to react to that with anything more than a quiet grumble.
  5. I really don't get the fuss. Clubs change kit colours sometimes. The Cardiff fans disappointed about the change from blue should be livid that they're not lining up in the brown and gold they wore upon their formation. Teams change names sometimes as well, and have to put up with terrible kits. I don't think some nebulous idea about losing the soul of the club is enough of an argument against the benefits it could bring. If Cardiff fans want a protest, have one against your shirt manufacturer for using sweatshop labour, or something worthwhile like that.
  6. Guys, Tony Pulis is gone from the Premier League. Why would anyone want to argue on such a glorious day like this? Let's all just dance together to celebrate.
  7. I only watched Eurovision tonight because playing the EWB version got me interested... I am glad I did because it was so much fun! Denmark were deserving winners but I liked Malta a lot, I can't get Belgium's out of my head and Greece were just the best thing ever. I quite liked Azerbaijan but knew nothing of this vote rigging thing that Kats speaks of. Is there anything more desperate than trying to rig the Eurovision Song Contest?

  9. I absolutely adore Mad Men but I sometimes wonder whether that's only because I'm immensely attracted to every single member of the cast.
  10. No. OK, there's some arguing he's better than Paisley. But Paisley took over at an already incredibly successful club and had incredible success with it for nine years. Superb manager, but I still think Ferguson taking over at a club in decline and turning them into the most recognisable team in the world while winning trophy after trophy for more that two decades is a larger achievement. Even though I've always vaguely assumed he'd get the job, I still can't wrap my head around 'David Moyes, Man Utd manager...'
  11. Obviously it largely depends on your criteria; I don't think there's ever been a manager that's had the sustained success of Sir Alex, but then he also never tried his luck in a different footballing culture. I think there's little arguing he's better than Paisley and Clough but probably not Busby.
  12. But Man Utd have said themselves they're not specifically looking for immediate success, they want someone for the long haul, and that's not Mourinho.
  13. Rafa Honigstein who I trust because he is handsome says it won't be Klopp or Mourinho, so I guess it's got to be Moyes?
  14. I don't know what to believe any more. Like someone else said in here, I just assumed he's just keep going forever and ever. I don't get why everyone thinks it has to be Mourinho though. He's a collector more than anything, he hasn't stayed at a club for more than a handful of seasons, hardly in the Ferguson mould of loyalty and commitment. He'd be a great short-term appointment obviously but I think Jurgen Klopp is the only man for the job, apart from maaaaaaaaybe Moyes.
  15. Huh? They play nice football on a small budget by bringing through young, hungry players from the lower leagues, and there's terraces at their ground. That's pretty much all you can ask for from a team in terms of likeability.
  16. I've made a huge mistake.

  17. But I meant Bolton and Burnley! It's just because it is late and I was only half focusing on what I was writing and the keys are just so close to each other on the keyboard. I bloody love Burnley and Sean Dyche really! EDIT- Wait, I meant Blackburn and the Venkys! Not Burnley and Sean Dyche! EDIT x2- Wait, no, that edit was wrong as well, I meant Blackburn and... anyone at that club who has retained some dignity from this season! Jordan Rhodes and... Gary Bowyer?
  18. Watching all that unfold on the Football League Show was pretty hectic. A few general thoughts! 1) I'm quite pleased for Hull. The pitch invasion was stupid but I really like Steve Bruce, if only because I feel sorry for him. He always seems to just have this hangdog air about him, only occasionally managing a weak smile. It's like he's constantly convinced he'll be sleeping rough later in the evening. Don't hate Steve Bruce guys! Conversely I do feel sorry for Watford, but finishing in the play-offs is a great achievement considering the turnover there. 2) Poor Peterborough. I would have rather seen Huddersfield, Millwall and somehow Blackburn go down instead of them. Although, having annoyed me for the majority of the season, I liked Ian Holloway admitting that his side got really lucky with decisions in the game and going as far as to say that he felt "sombre" at Peterborough going down. Rare bit of humility from him and it was nice to see. 3) Meh, Leicester. I suppose they should be commended for sticking with Nigel Pearson though. Not from me though, I like a bit of managerial turmoil. 4) Add me to the Brighton bandwagon for the play-offs! I wouldn't mind any of the other three going up really though, Watford have Zola and some great players, Palace would be an entertaining and unexpected promotion, and Leicester going up would remind me of the last time they were in the Premier League for a concerted period, when I was about five and everything was better in the world. 5) Really pleased with how Charlton ended the season, with a couple of astute summer signings I think we might have another outside chance of the play-offs next time out. We're in the best shape we've been in for a long time. Chris Powell is a great great man. EDIT: Wait hang on when I said I wanted Blackburn to go down I clearly meant Bolton and Burnley. Blackburn and their representatives here on EWB are wonderful people!
  19. I don't know if he'd be willing to go to Holland but Dani Guiza from Espanyol (I think) is a really good all rounder for that price range and easy enough to get. Then again, when the alternative is a guy literally called THE BULLET I know who I'd go for...
  20. To the many on EWB who were eagerly anticipating my thoughts on Frank Turner's new album, you can find them here! http://whatculture.com/music/frank-turner-tape-deck-heart-review.php

  21. Laverne's brilliant but she desperately needs to be given something to do rather than just sit there and look on awkwardly as the others exchange quips. It is such a dreadful show though, Jimmy Carr is painfully unfunny, Brooker and Mitchell are both fine but rarely at their best, and even as someone who identifies as left wing I still find the bias a bit unpalatable at times.
  22. Should he start turning on referees Mark Battenburg better beware.
  23. I'd like Brighton to go up the most because Gus Poyet is a great great man. Watford's loan policy doesn't particularly bother me and only terrible people dislike Gianfranco Zola so I'd be pleased to see them in the Premier League as well. I wouldn't object to Bolton or even Palace, though Ian Holloway annoys me a little more every day. Perhaps this is just the partisan in me, but I kind of still think Charlton might have an outside chance; six points off with three games to play is probably too much to overcome but Wolves, Middlesbrough and Bristol City make for an incredibly kind run in...
  24. It's funny because it nearly destroyed his entire career and contributed to the death of his father!
  25. Today I watched Justified for the first time. 15 minutes into Episode One I had already decided I had to make radical changes in my life in order to be as similar to Raylen Givens as possible, and that feeling only strengthens the more I watch.
