    Songs about sports

'World In Motion' by New Order featuring John Barnes. Forget songs about football, it's the greatest song about anything. You can throw in all the other World Cup songs, 'Back Home' etc.

I might have a ring around some friends, I'm sure one of them will have spares...or a friend that can be bumped off to make way for I.

Are tickets still available? I imagine most of my friends are going as they're Camden regular-types. I've resisted up until now.
  4. Safely (enough) out of the relegation battle and at the first time of asking, Keegan should be taking notes. Bet 1 5 on Arsenal to win 2-1 @ 8/1 Bet 2 10 on Birmingham to win vs. Wigan @ 2/1 Bet 3 5 on Sunderland to win vs. Fulham @ 15/8
  5. Again I'm quite the opposite. Pete's recently started to write good songs again, but it feels to me as though his best has come and gone, my favourite Babyshambles songs are largely still The Libertines era ones. I prefer DPTs hands down (although I don't go in for the whole "pick a side, Pete or Carl, and like one or the other"), though I do find I'm in a minority there. Lyrically nobody would deny that Carl was never as strong as Pete, but he's making good progress and musically I enjoy the DPT album more, especially Carl's love of "pirate-y" tunes. The new album actually has a few tracks that are more early-Libertines sounding, along the lines of things like Anything But Love and the 'softer' songs they wrote. I think somewhere down the line there will be another Pete and Carl album, remains to be seen whether or not Pete has completely burned the bridges with Gary and John though. It wouldn't be The Libertines without them thrown in too. Looking forward to Reading with both bands booked to appear.
  6. I agree that there isn't a bad song on it, but at the same time some songs just don't strike me as partically amazing either. I haven't made a final decision on it yet, I picked it up a few weeks after it was released and consider it still to be growing on me. Same with The Blinding EP, I really went off Pete and Babyshambles when it looked like Pete had pretty much lost it. Shotter's Nation was a timely reminder he can still write a song or two. I'll give it time anyway, I remember Radio America took a long time for me to love. I was the same with the live version of Beg Steal Of Borrow, or rather the full band version. I had only known Pete's acoustic version that he'd been playing for a while, when I went to see them do the NME award show announcement thingy - just a mini-gig with The Wombats and Joe Lean... Only Drew and Adam turned up, but the version they did together was still pretty good. On a side note, though this is probably another thread/discussion all together: Libertines reunion? Or let Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things be? I'm happy with what they have now, perhaps doing the occasional collaberation as with their cover of A Day In The Life. DPTs second album sounds realy good from the demos and live stuff I've seen.
  7. The only thing that disappointed me with Down In Albion were the "original/new" tracks Pete put forward for it. Most of the better songs were floating around on the earliest Libs demos - although that's not to say some of the new songs weren't bad. But Shotter's Nation better than The Libertines? It isn't for me, while the second half lags a little - up until Likely Lads - I think the first half is largely on par with anything Up The Bracket had to offer, sadly they just couldn't keep it up. If Babyshambles had held back on The Blinding release and combined that with Shotter's Nation it would've been an amazing album from start to finish and would've pipped The Libertines for me. Beg, Steal Or Borrow and I Wish are two of my favourite songs by anyone, let alone Babyshambles.
  8. Bet 3 Bet 10 Arsenal to draw with Liverpool @ 2/1 Bet 4 Bet 10 Fenerbache to draw with Chelsea @ 2/1

As I always thought of Feeder on their records, live at Reading 2006 I thought they came across as quite dull - and that was amongst the more indie line up on the Saturday of that year. Considering most of the fans gathered at the stage are probably going to be waiting for Slipknot and/or Metallica, they've been set up for a big fall. I don't like it when festival crowds try to piss all over a band and ruin everyone elses enjoyment of them, but surely the promoters should book the line up sensibly and keep this is mind.
  10. I'm still trying to sort my list, this at number one is my only defininte. Like you, this was the first album that I sort out and found myself, the first band I wasn't introduced to but had the pleasure of turning others on to. Plus the memories of going to the gigs at the flats, a bunch of live shows in proper venues too, this was my favourite point in music hands down. Death On The Stairs, Time For Heroes and The Good Old Days are probably my favourite tracks.

2 albums and a b-side album each. Bloc Party also have a few individual singles in the amazing "Flux", "Little Thoughts" and "Two More Years". For what it's worth Bloc Party > The Killers, so check them out first. The Killers are very much a singlse band, in that 5/6 songs an album are great, but there's a bit of filler. Bloc Party have put out two absolutely killer albums, "A Weekend In The City" especially, which actually gets a bit of flack, but personally I think that's because they went in a slightly different direction to what people were expecting. Bloc Party are hands down one of my favourite bands around at the minute. They're made even better by being one of the 'weirdest' looking bands...in that they don't really seem to fit together. You've got a black singer, a chinese drummer, an emo guitarist and a bassist with floppy hair. And how can you not love; I'm the opposite with the two bands. Bloc Party are really one of those hit and miss bands for me, when they hit they hit big - which will be 5 - 7 songs of each album, but then other stuff I just can't get into. Despite being featured on TV shows and snooker highlights a lot, So Here We Are remains one of my favourite songs. And Bloc Party, or some members of, were at my uni, which I'm told should install a sense of loyalty in me. It took a solid year of my flatmate playing The Killers albums pretty much non-stop, but I'm quiet a fan now. I find Hot Fuss to be their better all round album, but Sam's Town is still pretty good. With Sawdust I've only heard the Lou Reed track, should probably get that one at some point. Outside of Battle Of LA, anyone got any recommendations for RATM albums/tracks to check out?

They finally put the full line up on the website, as tipped by most other sites: EDIT: Not that I hate them, but do we really need Bloc Party on the main stage again? Have they released anything since last year?

I was trying to get 6, as were my five other friends, but none of us even got past the first order stage on various websites, then it just crashes.

More batches get released over the coming couple of weeks, its just a case of being online when they are. HMV stores will have them too. Coach packages usually stay online a lot longer when they go up, leaving from various points around the country.

Nothing has, is, or will work for me. Tried every website, every phone number, nothing at present. Looks like later batches or shitty coach packages again. Anyone who wants to order two extra tickets for me feel free! EDIT Can anyone even get on the Reading website to see what the confirmed line up is?

The Raconteurs, Dirty Pretty Things, The Cribs...perfect.
  19. I'd nominate Be Here Now and SOTSOG by Oasis. Starting with Be Here Now, this was released to general acclaim and "Oasis have done it again!" from most, only for opinion to shift shortly after when this wasn't the case, it now supposedly being where Oasis were derailed and from which they never recovered. Putting it into perspective, was it the best album? No. Was it a fitting follow up to Definitely Maybe and What's The Story? No. But it's not that bad. It's the work of a band perhaps a bit coked up and buying into the hype that surrounded them, but it's got enough good songs on it to make it worth a listen to any Oasis. SOTSOG is very similar, a mixed bag. Regarded as another of the albums that finished Oasis for good, it's got some good songs on it (Go Let It Out, Fucking In The Bushes - sampled in a million film and tv soundtracks, Gas Panic etc) which are unfortunately pulled down by some bad and some lazy efforts. However, as with before, the good songs make it worth a listen and take it from a bad album, to an okay album. Little James is often mentioned as the worst offender (it's nothing to be proud of), but I like having it on the CD, it's good to chart the progression Liam has made as a songwriter.

Unbold The Enemy and I whole-heartedly agree.
  21. I'd like to be bottom by the time the next Prem games roll around, so yes, bring on the CL. Is it possible to mix up which big four (or indeed all) Premiership teams are available for selection in future? Thus preventing the multitude of same bets each time, which for me is quite boring. It's not real money, why not have a guess at something happening?
  22. My girlfriend has been a massive Dr Who fan all her life, meaning I will be seeing every single episode without fail (we've actually just spent the last week re-watching series 3 - wahey). On the subject of the daleks, is it really necessary to have them every week? It seems to me that the old fans will watch for the nostalgia even if there are no daleks, and as a newer fan, I can't say I'm all that fussed about them to be honest. Every time the "last ever dalek!" returns, every time it's billed as an unstoppable killing machine, every time The Doctor beats them. I do like some Ood though.

As my computer is shit I'll have to have the phone numbers ready to go for when the tickets are available. Lineup last year came out 10 mins before the tickets went on sale I believe. I knew I should've just bought tickets after last year's festival when there was no rush - would've saved tonight's hassle. Plan B will be picking up a coach package ticket, worked last year.
  24. They've started doing Be Safe live now with a video of Lee Ranaldo. It's a head shot of him speaking the poem into t he camera, but he plays with props and things that are handed to him off camera. Very good.
  25. Agreed, absolutely amazing tune. Probably my favourite on the second album. Similarly, apparently a video was shot for "Horrorshow", on the first album, but for whatever reason it was never released as a single...which is gutting, as it's fucking amazing. You beat me to that point, wasn't it Time for Heroes that was released it its place in the end? Then they left the first album for dead before knocking out Don't Look Back into the Sun? I think Up The Bracket might have got a release as well, although not sure if that was before or after Time For Heroes. Death On The Stairs would've been great, I would say that probably is my favourite Libertines song.
