  1. The options setting on the cell phone just messes about with the phone. To turn subtitles on, press start and it's under Display.
  2. I love the driving. Got used to it quickly too. Very nice and tight and realistic. That said, I abuse the taxis. I need to go anywhere I'll just flag down a cab and skip to my destination. Don't have the time to drive half way across the city every time I have to do something.
  3. Also related to Dwayne & Playboy: Spoiler: Click here to viewI made the opposite choice, and Niko questioned it about 5 minutes later after I accidentally killed someone I was supposed to just beat up. Don't remember the exact words, but it was something like "Dwayne...maybe I should have popped Playboy instead?" Now did it do this to let me know "Hey stupid, wrong decision!", or does it do this regardless of who you pick? Spoiler: Click here to view Ah that's cool to know... And no. When you go after Playboy, it's blatantly obvious that's a mission. He has guys waiting with him, you even have to chase him... And the whole time Niko keeps saying "I chose Dwayne". He's quite sincere in his choice. Doesn't question it at all. Does Playboy say or do anything when you off Dwayne? A fucking greed. I've moved on to doing other peoples missions because I can't be bothered trying to attempt it again. I'll get to the escape and be completely bombarded. Even with body armor. I went around the outside of the building picking guys off with my sniper rifle, then walked around the back end and found a ladder that lets you climb up top. Did so and just picked everyone off. When you know who show up, I just high tailed it directly out the back of the hospital and ran for the water... Either my luck, or by design, there was a boat I landed right on and I made off in that.
  4. Good choice, albeit I hope that the 'twist' near the end doesn't sully your experience...
  5. Decisions... decisions... Major spoilers regarding Dwayne and Playboy X... Spoiler: Click here to viewSo yeah... I have no fucking which one I should 'execute'. I wonder how the game will turn out after either one. This is rather difficult. So I guess I'll make another save since this seems like a pretty big turning point. I do believe offing Playboy X seems more in line with the storyline as it's being presented... so off to his place I go. [Edit:] Yep... storywise Playboy's the way to go...
  6. Fuck is that mission intense... Spoiler: Click here to viewI was doing alright not getting hit up until the street with the cops on the fire escapes up above. Then I died in the subway just as Packie and Derrick went down on the tracks. Grenades do wonders.
  7. And I still don't understand what their saying with subtitles on. To be honest, I haven't found many characters particularly likable. Albeit Little Jacob is awesome even if I don't understand him half the time. Now that I'm at that part of the game, the McReary's will definitely grow on me. I can relate. Everyone else just seems to be kind of coming in and out of the story at a pretty quick pace with few... ahem... sticking around. I do like the core two of Niko and Roman though. Very well done. Mallory's pretty cool too.
  8. I just shoved a dude talking on his cell phone off a train platform in front of a moving train... Tis was beautiful as his body went flying and landed in between three cops talking to each other.
  9. If you haven't had a single problem with your 360 and don't fear it breaking under the weight of GTA IV while wanting to play with more guys from EWB go for it on the 360 (achievements too). I went with the PS3 for system stability issues, the Dualshock controller and a slightly better (very minute regardless) gameplay experience (and there are a decent number of us PS3 owning GTA IV players, but not as numerous or vocal as the 360). As for a game you should get and/or at least play on the PS3 before MGS IV, Uncharted would be it. Great fun and entertaining game. Has a very pulpy action adventure feel with a pretty good story and some good gameplay throughout. It's at least worth a thorough renting if nothing else. I also recommend Warhawk for sheer awesomeness. But the game's not for everyone. Plus some of the random PSN games are quite fun (I particularly enjoy Pixeljunk Monsters and Super Stardust HD). But why don't you just wait until June 12th and pick up one of those MGS IV bundles that come with the game and a Dualshock 3 (plus Pain if I'm not mistaken)? Would be a better value than to pick up one now and just leave it til then unless you do plan on playing something else in the meantime (be it GTA IV or something else).
  10. Aside from minor quibbles, the shadowing looks atrocious at times. Namely when I was watching this cabaret chick 'singing' and her entire face was pixelated and splotchy. It affects all shadows in the game, but on people's faces its ugly. Crashing has been annoying, but hopefully it doesn't do it anymore (hasn't since signing out of the PSN). I also concur on the radio being pretty shit. I randomly switched stations and I haven't heard much of any of it, and regardless a lot of it just sucks. Compared to the previous two games having great soundtracks, this one just feels... meh. Albeit since Niko or someone is always talking in the car or on the phone the music is seemingly a non-issue.
  11. So yeah, twice now the games frozen on my girlfriend whilst playing. Once running from the police and once during a cabaret show... Anyone else have the problem at all? Looking into it, seems a lot of PS3 (and a fair few 360 too it seems) owners have experienced it with numerous possibilities (cache overloading, something to do with online, etc.) And Rockstar apparently has been swamped with calls. It seems to primarily occur during the single player game from what I've been reading.
  12. BAS RUTTEN! Hahah, TV is awesome. I just watched a show called 'The Men's Room Featuring Bas & Jeremy'. Describing how to kill a guy with toilet paper... brilliant.
  13. I'd assume so. Figured to hell with it and tried it out... "Cannot connect to game provider, please try again later." pops up on the phone.
  14. You can take off Army of Two for me, traded that in awhile ago actually. I also have Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga now that I look at it. And of course GTA IV too.
  15. How dare he not break the law for you. Outrageous. It's not a law though I just picked it up, however I cannot play it until later when my girlfriend gets home as per our agreement. She's more excited for the damn thing than I am. And there was a fucktonne of copies behind the glass at EB. One half PS3, other half 360. Was quite a sight.
  16. I would love GG but for some reason it just feels completely sterile and lifeless. It's immense with a full 16 player game, but anything less seems kind of iffy. Playing with like 6-8 people can make it seem too large. Blood Bath... meh. Seems too fancy for its own sake and just boils into a straight up shoot out no matter what. They're also both symmetrical and I don't really like maps like that. The new one takes all the good of both and is unique in itself, thus making it awesome. I think once people learn how to play as Snake it will be better. Namely the Octocamo. I only actually noticed it when I tested it by myself (bit too hectic during an actual game), but you have a index number like in Snake Eater. This is what affects when Snake looks blatantly invisible, which I'm sure you've seen. What you really have to do as Snake, is what he does best, sneak around the entire round and try to single out individuals. Pat'em down and run off. Snake wins regardless of kills if he gets 3 tags. So patience is the key... But I noticed, as I too did it, a lot of people will stick as a team during that game mode far more than otherwise. And in that case, Snake is screwed. I thought that was cool too. I wish I didn't experience when I did though. I spawned, started running off, "FREEZE!". He then flipped me, and then did it again. So there I am cowering on ground while I got patted down... Next thing I know, Snake gets taken out by 3 dudes from their team, who all come and crouch around me looking at me while I stayed there frozen. As I stirred to movement, one capped me in the head... But having messed around with Snake on the new map by myself, I think Metal Gear Solid 4 will be an immense game. With the added control and features, plus what looks like an even better designed game than before, it'll be great to mess about with. Still not keen on the controls and such being used for online though.
  17. I didn't say dick all about sales, he did. By his statement the series is bought more by Japanese, then Europeans and then by default North Americans. Which is not true as dictated by data. THAT's my point. If you take the entirety of the series and every installment (with upgrades) NA and Europe are about the same. However, considering the consolidation and access to the Internet along with the proliferation of "online gaming" among Americans and to a lesser extent Canadians, and taking into consideration there is a larger install base (along with a far cheaper price point, thus resulting in more potential buyers) of the PS3... North America is obviously MGO's core demographic. I see not what is so hard to comprehend. Obviously the little bugger is supposed to help Snake win, which if two players were playing together (ie. with mics) it would be rather easy. However a lot of people don't have mics and even those that do don't use them (...guilty as charged I be). But playing as Snake is so difficult. I feel sorry for the guys that spawn as Snake as it's effectively you vs. everyone else. I have only seen 1 guy win and that sadly was due to my own stupidity... I had my 3 magazines down and 3 of the other team all conveniently stopped to look at them. While I was getting ready to pick them off, Snake came up behind me and put me to sleep... So 4 sitting ducks for him to pilfer from... was embarassing... And the new map is leaps and bounds better than the first two though. Lots of nooks and crannies with enough sniper spots and places to hide and open spaces for big fire fights.
  18. The new premiums are supposed to have all of the benefits of the Elite (better GPU, more efficient mother board, etc.). But with our 360 we have multiple saves across just about every game we own or have owned (well over 20 something), with all the extra map pack stuff and extras you can get for free (Halo 3 maps, Gears of War maps, etc.) with over half a dozen Live Arcade games on top of it. And even when the Oblivion expansion was installed in barely dipped close to 9 Gb. All that extra space is only really important for the video stuff and possibly downloading the 'Xbox Originals'.
  19. Hmmm, yeah, looking at data, albeit not wholly accurate, kind of proves that theory wrong. And on that note, tasering dudes as Metal Gear Mk. II is wonderful.
  20. 1. Point out where I said the beta wasn't good. 2. You somehow speak for the activity of North American servers (the core demographic of the game)... how? 3. Where the fuck did I say the servers weren't connected? I didn't bitch about shit. I said that over the weekend since the beta started people have significantly dropped off from playing. I said that's not good for the game. Which is true of any beta. Didn't say the game wasn't good, didn't say I have a "duff code" (yeah, how the fuck does that work?), didn't say the servers weren't connected, etc. Where you get you're assumptions from, I don't know.
  21. Where the fuck are you getting that from? Want me to take a fucking picture of the server list? There isn't as many people on. Period. I don't see what the fucking problem is. And regardless, seems people have already found exploits. Was playing some dude named TENCHU and he literally could not be killed. 50+ kills during Capture with no deaths. And every shot he hit someone with, even in the foot, was a headshot.
  22. How exactly would it be a problem on my end? Or have you not noticed North American and European servers obviously are not connected to each other? Add on that people over here needed the pre-order code...
  23. Well that settles that then... If you guys have been on, then the servers have to be region exclusive. Which is bullshit. Bah. [Edit:] And the number of people online at any one time has dropped significantly each day since Friday. Which doesn't seem to bode well for the game. I know it's now Monday and all, but considering Call of Duty 4, Warhawk, Resistance and such are almost always full of people playing at any one time and this beta was just released and was "hotly anticipated"... that ain't good.
  24. I tried adding ya, but it won't let me. Maybe Europe and North America can't play on the same servers? I tried sending a message and even a player search, nothing came up. Bah.
  25. I'll probably pop onto it in an hour or so from now if anyone else may or may not be on.
