  1. Anyone else interested in the special edition. I know it's $30 more but to get: * A customised metal safe deposit box. * A Rockstar keychain for the safe deposit box keys. * A limited edition Rockstar duffel bag. * Production artwork in the Grand Theft Auto IV Art Book. * Selected soundtrack CD from Grand Theft Auto IV. * A specially packaged version of the game. Just seems worth it. After hearing more of these previews though I very well think my decision to purchase it is final. Just have to figure out what version to pre-order.
  2. Anyone over the pond interested in Lost Odyssey may be interested to know you can get 1000 Microsoft points with it. It's quite fun. 2 weeks in with sporadic play every day and I'm almost done. Damn good game.
  3. Yeah that was my point. Albeit Gambit could very easily fit into the role of a Weapon X recruit or be associated with them somehow. Or even just be stumbled across on a mission or such. My main concern is if they do make future X-Men films like they plan and want to include Gambit, what'll they do? That's almost 22/23 years between this movie and X-Men: The Last Stand. And Mane was an awesome visual Sabretooth. Perfect. And he got more than enough character off through his body language, and his "scream for me" line was good enough. I'm utterly opposed to the idea of Schrieber though. That's just poor casting for me. Appearance wise, acting wise and continuity between the movies (him suddenly turning into Mane for X-Men?). And with a movie packed with Stryker, Gambit, Deadpool, Sabretooth, Silver Fox and most obviously Wolverine, how much acting or even dialogue will be needed out of Creed anyways? Thinking about it though, a reference to Alpha Flight or something would amuse me.
  4. Gambit not being in the X-Men movies... but yeah he's in a spin-off set 17 years before them dealing with Weapon X and such? Yeah... Alrighty then... Black Eyed Peas dude? Why? Just... Why? No... Actually I don't want an answer. And Liev Schrieber as Creed? Eww. Where's Tyler Mane? Deadpool? Awesome. Reynolds has been at the forefront of rumours of a Deadpool movie for years, and I suppose this is just as good, hopefully if done right leading to his own movie. Considering those rumours though and Marvel's desire for cash, I no doubt think this will lead just to that very idea. I just hope they don't fuck him over by making him disposable villain #4 for Wolverine to plow through.

    Star Trek

I never could enjoy the original series. Don't know what it is, I just thought it was too cheesy and old for my liking as a kid. That and growing up with The Next Generation didn't help it. I loved TNG. My father had me watch it with him and I watched every single episode since I was a wee lad. The first couple of seasons when I got around to rewatching them when I got older really did gel for me. Especially the Tasha Yar character. DS9 though. That was just pure sex. I loved that show so much and it's the only one I can still tolerate if I see it on TV. All of the characters and story arcs just appealed to me, especially the blatant Nazi/Jew allusions with the Cardassians and Bajorans. I didn't like the whole Dominion thing at first as I felt the Jem Hadar were horridly cheap Klingon ripoffs, but the series slowly developed that whole ridiculous arc into awesomeness. My only two problems with the show were Jadzia being killed off (it didn't feel right with Sisko calling someone else 'old man') and the last couple of episodes and the whole prophecy thing just... I never liked it. And considering I liked Avery Brook's Sisko almost as much as I liked Patrick Stewart's Picard, I felt the end to his character was bullshit... I mean serious, how the fuck does Janeway make a token movie appearance... but Sicko is "gone". Meh. Speaking of which. I hated Voyager. It was decent for the Kazon stuff (I quite liked the two parter 'Basics') but beyond that I just found the non overarching episodes incredibly shitty and rehashes of older TOS, TNG and DS9 episodes, and then the never ending Borg Saga began... I also found most of the characters unlikable, especially Janeway. I only watched Enterprise to see what they might do. Only saw two early first season episodes and never watched again. And I ascribe to the even number Star Trek movie theory. Those are some awesome movies. I marked the fuck out in the theatre when the Defiant came roaring in on the Borg Cube in First Contact. Ah, Worf. You art such a badass.
  6. No doubt. Buffay the Vampire Layer was hawt!
  7. Not particularly. Same reason I don't really watch movies credits. There might be the oft chance I'll look to see if I recognize any names, but just like with grips, foleys, et al on movies I'm not too interested in who may have tested the game or been on the art team. And most "big name" designers or producers wind up having their names get around the Internet or in magazines anyways, much like with movie producers and directors. In games heavy with voice acting, or even just with decent voice acting, I'll wait to see who voiced who if I haven't already checked online. Actually it's exactly like movies. Whoever acted in it, produced and directed... That's about all I find interesting to know. And usually I know beforehand anyways. I do usually sit through game credits though. Especially a long game or one that's really left an impact on me, or in case if there's a new game + or extra story snippet at the end. I've done that ever since Chrono Trigger, and especially after Metal Gear Solid.
  8. ^ Yep, Mad About You and Friends also intersect with the Ursula character.
  9. Kingdom Hearts (along with FFX, MGS 2 and GTA: VC) was one of the games that drew me to getting a Playstation 2. It was a fantastic game when I first played it and I loved every bit of it. As an absolute fan of Disney animation it was just a surreal and awesome experience. I wasn't that bothered by the downplayed Final Fantasy influence, and in fact I preferred it so much more because of that. Far too many have just vehemently bashed the game (and series) for being "kiddy" due to the Disney aspect and that it "sucked" because it didn't give a glorified handjob to the Final Fantasy series, not like Square doesn't do that anyways and get slammed for that on a regular basis. The story was one of the few I actually cared about the characters and I feel that's the saving grace of the Kingdom Hearts series. The tale of Sora, Kairi and Riku was very endearing. And I proudly admit I actually got teary when Simple & Clean started playing at the end of the game wand what occurred. I also almost shamelessly marked out when Beast showed up and started tearing the shit out of everything in our way, that was awesome. I only briefly tried out the GBA game and I know I would have hated every last bit of the damn thing. I despise card battle style shit like that, and going through a downgraded almost literal rehash of the first game didn't appeal to me. And what slight moves forward the overarching plot may have made weren't worth the hassle. That said the second was just as great as the first, if not better. I went through and played through the first again before the release of the second and the camera was very grating with the overall gameplay not really standing up anymore. But they refined the experience into a generally great sequel for once. I even enjoyed the beginning of the game (which many hated for some reason), but have to say that the story was a bit too convoluted for its own good. However it was a very good conclusion to the first and really that's all there really is to it. The problem with the series is it only has so many finite options. They use Disney worlds and no matter what there are only so many, and even the second showed some retreads. I wouldn't mind if they came up with some original stories set in the Disney worlds but I feel they won't since people will likely bitch. In general though I'm not looking forward to the new slew of portable games at all. I really, really don't give a shit about Roxas or the Organization (why Square Enix MUST absolutely explain every single fucking god damned facet or every series in the past few years is beyond me) and the DS has lost all sense of being interesting to me. The PSP game will likely be decent since it can stay close to the gameplay style of the main two games, but at that I don't care about idea of the story at all. I'll await the inevitable PS3 Kindom Hearts III when it shows up, hopefully continuing on with Sora and co.
  10. I've been watching the Fresh Prince lately and started thinking of how many various series tied into each other in some capacity. Diff'rent Strokes and The Jeffersons struck with the series finale. Then connected with that you got All In The Family and subsequently Maude... and it just continues. Really obvious if you connect all of the sitcoms on the networks. Especially CBS and NBC. It's actually pretty damn cool how so many shows connect in some ways.
  11. He only had two or three lines in the whole thing.
  12. It's not cheesy enough I say. I hope Ford can tune back into that old Indy charm, which isn't really apparent in the trailer. I'm a wee bit disappointed Blanchett is a villain... would have preferred her to be a heroine of some sort. It works out though. Should be a decent movie, but Spielberg hasn't really provided me with anything entertaining in ages and I forget the last Ford movie I even liked. Air Force One was the last truly good one. I'm still looking forward to the new Bond film and The Dark Knight more than anything though.
  13. Sums up a hero? It also sums up Magneto's beliefs. Doom's too. Magneto does what he feels he has to, to stop people from persecuting Mutants. He fought against his best friend (Xavier) even though he didn't want to. Take out Mutants and replace it with Heroes, change Xavier to Captain America and, well... you get the idea. Doom tries to get power to save his mother's soul from Hell... It is all a matter of perspective...
  14. Thats partially my fault, he started a comic book thread in the lounge, unawares of this thread, so I moved his post in here.

    J-Pop/J-Rock

I went through a period during my final couple of years in high school where I quite liked Ayumi Hamasaki, BoA and Koda Kumi. I particularly still kind of like "The Meaning of Peace" by BoA and Koda Kumi. However I grew out of it almost as fast as I became interested and any other stuff I listened to was utterly wretched. I cans till listen to the occasional song by them if it pops up in my play list but that's about it. I've also never honestly bothered to look into J-Rock considering some of the recommendations I received were completely shit. Utada Hikaru though has been, and likely will continue to be, my favourite female vocalist of the past few years. English or Japanese it doesn't matter, I just love her voice and like almost all of her songs. I'm looking forward to her next upcoming English album that's coming out this year.
  16. Haven't really touched our 360 for the past couple months since getting it back due to time constraints and what not, but I decided to pick up Lost Odyssey since it came out yesterday. Must say I am very impressed. The graphics are exquisite with wonderful music. The sound design in particular is quite nice. The voice acting so far has been great (with Jansen being a particular high light) and the ambient noise and sound effects are also quite good. Battles are standard typical RPG stuff with some wrinkles here and there. Quite pleased to see a similar system as to FFIX in regards to learning skills and such for your immortals. That said, the story is actually quite interesting so far with some likable characters. Particularly the little slightly animated novellas that pop up explaining an old memory of the main character Kaim. Maybe I'm not far enough into it but the graphical glitching and loading aren't remotely as bad as some reviews have implied. It's actually refreshing not to get into a battle every two feet. Speaking of which, the first boss raped me. Raped me silly. Raped me like a transexual Malaysian prostitute, three times over. Just absolutely brutal. Looking at some shit said online (namely Gamefaqs), seems quite a few people hate the game for it and are trading it in. It's quite endearing to encounter an RPG boss that requires some thought and skill to defeat and it felt like an accomplishment to fell the guy. So far its been great. Anyone at all interested in a traditional RPG should give it a look. Tweak some things and add some stuff and it would fit right in line with older FF titles like VI, VII and VIII but obviously 'next gen'. I should actually make use of my gold subscription to Live though. Since getting the 360 I've barely tried online.
  17. I don't feel it needs its own thread, and not directly related... But anyone here interested in Lost Odyssey? Coming out randomly at different times this month. I enjoyed FFXII for what it was, but with Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu and countless former Square employees involved with Lost Odyssey it looks to be more of a Final Fantasy (for me at least) than XII was. Only complaints I've seen levied at it in a few reviews I've seen are "the combat and adventuring was old and repetitive". Seems people hate turn based JRPGs anymore, and everything must be real time western oriented like Mass Effect and Oblivion (neither of which I much liked at all).
  18. The supposed FFVII remake has never even been mentioned or announced. Many people took the tech demo released a few years ago to show off the new White engine (used in FFXIII) as proof something was being made. No official word on anything. However, that said, Square will undoubtedly do so sometime in the future if only to milk as much money as they possibly can.
  19. I just finally beat it after having it languish in its case after buying it not too long ago. Damn this game was immense. Absolutely wonderful. The cinematic quality of it beats almost any game I have played in ages barring the Metal Gears. What an awesome experience. The length was perfect, with tonnes of reasons to replay it. Lots of unlockables I'm going back for to get and try out, plenty of behind the scenes stuff. I actually don't really have any complaints with it, except for some slightly annoying puzzles and some of the enemies are cheap bastards. But everything comes together so damn well. And the game has excellent sound all around; effects, voices and music are all great. And the graphics are superb. This is the game to own on the PS3 as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely splendid. Naughty Dog's struck gold with it. And thankfully a sequel is on its way. Woooo.
