  1. Overall rank of 346 in Base and 304 in Capture with an Eagle title for 'Headshot Master'. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. More EWBites need to be on and play dagnabbit.
  2. Muwahaha. Was playing team death match, was down to me and some other guy against 3 other dudes who were all my former team mates the previous few games... We worked quite well as a cohesive team always staying together and taking out the other team. Since I knew how they operated though I knew precisely where they would be on Bloodbath. Low and behold there they were moving together. One grenade as a decoy a rolling dive onto the middle section and three consecutive headshots later, I won the round with not a second to spare. After growing used to the controls for the most part, they don't bother me too much (admittedly I am too used to other games. And the hit detection has somehow improved. I suppose I can chalk the earlier horridness up to lag with so many people on. Some EBs, Gamestops and Best Buy have been randomly giving out their pre-order stock. Otherwise there's no real way to get it in North America. You could always email the Konami customer service and try to bullshit them saying you got a 9 digit code. Or ask CKN, he said on the previous page he has an extra. [Edit:] But holy shit... I looked at the rankings. There's guys already in the few thousand range of kills in some of the modes. Sheesh.
  3. My name's the same, as I use for everything. Played a bit. Eh, don't know if I like it. The hit detection is absolute shit. And the controls are clunky, with aiming and such too slow. I can imagine MGS 4 will be brilliant, but if they intend this multiplayer to be even comparable to other stuff out there (on the PS3 alone, Call of Duty 4 and Warhawk) they need to work on that hit detection and tighten up the controls. And is there any way possible to recover health. Nothing's worse than walking around after killing two guys and effectively being a sitting duck. But we must get an EWB game going. Must.
  4. I do. And looking at the other thread... that makes like 4/5 people with a PS3 getting it for that. Can't wait.
  5. There's a new 1.02 update. Thankfully it takes nowhere near as long as the first. And the beta opens up on Saturday it seems. So how many people have it and/or plan to be playing?
  6. Aside from some obvious stuff and/or things mentioned... Professor Layton is quite good. It's animation style reminds me of old Tin Tin stuff by Herge and the story is pretty good too, with the puzzles/riddles suitably mind bending. Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 is great, but can be on the short side with limited replay if you know what you're doing and/or good enough. Tetris DS is one of my favourite iterations if only for the local shared play. Clubhouse Games is the ultimate time waster and ridiculously worth it if you're at all interested. And again local play is great. Stuff like New Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's Island DS, Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass, etc. are all worthy purchases (albeit Yoshi's Island can be infuriatingly difficult).
  7. Dirt, grime, dead skin. Some wear and tear of the plastic. I just use a pin whenever I notice it or around analog sticks a q-tip.
  8. Cool. Second weirdest wrestler cameo I've heard of (the first is RVD in an episode of the X-Files) He was some sort of alien gladiator. Beat the shit out of Seven of Nine, finished with the Rock Bottom and left raising the eyebrow. RVD was also on V.I.P. where he was some crazy weed smoking ex military special ops soldier hiding out in the woods causing a ruckus... Yeah... I'm actually looking forward to this movie. Mainly since I've dreamed about a live action Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow showdown for ages. A lot of the casting seems to be decent enough as well. I'm not fussed over the "not real American" mumbo jumbo since I never cared as a kid (I just saw the show and comics as cool good guys taking on cool bad guys). The costumes though decent are rather generic looking. I don't see why people can't have unique appearances to match their comic/cartoon counterparts... It is fantasy after all, it doesn't have to 100% in line with reality.
  9. Be happy you got in free without having to pre-order and/or deal with a retarded code system that was almost unanimously screwed over for a lot of people due to "printing errors". Yep, really screw you Europeans. Yep, yep. People need to calm down. It's a free beta, it's a test. And a privilege to play at that, not a right.
  10. Heh, that's what me and my girlfriend decided to do a month ago. Got through the first in a couple of days and got sidetracked. Played through the tanker part of 2 a week or so ago and have done a bit of the plant in the past day or so. I forgot how daunting I felt that was. But with my Warhawk obsession, new love of Stardust, GTA IV coming out... I don't know when I'll be able to get through the rest of 2 and then play 3 and Portable Ops before June. Speaking of Warhawk... Bought the new 'booster pack' Operation: Broken Mirror and played quite a bit of it today/tonight. It combined with the new 1.3 patch has breathed a whole lot of new life into the game. The biofield emitter is awesome for covering health in a shoot out, the wrench is the most awesome addition of all if only to be able to heal your vehicles. The tweaking and balances fixes also make it more competitive. And the new map itself is so awesomely well designed in so many ways. I was disappointed with the last, but this one is already one of my favourite and preferred. And the APC... Awesome. Roving spawn point (which is handy since you get a random extra weapon when you spawn in it), with the boost it has and the shield... More people here with PS3s and Warhawk should play it. It doesn't get the love it deserves.
  11. So? Seriously, who cares? I don't know if many people were into the series 7 years ago but Kojima said the exact same things in regard to Metal Gear Solid 2 and the Playstation 2. He also said it would be his last game in the series. Then Metal Gear Solid 3 came out, proving it all wrong. Kojima is also a known obsessive compulsive perfectionist that is never satisfied with anything he does, as is true of any visionary or artist. There is always something to do, add, change, etc. A work is never honestly done. Kojima wants to create a life-like, ridiculously sized, epic in scope, interactive movie. That's what he always has wanted to do, and until the day he can, he'll never be happy. This has no bearing on the quality of the game or storyline with MGS 4, it's simply him not being able to do everything he wanted to.
  12. Just read #48... I literally am... stunned. Spoiler: Click here to viewHe literally just fucking killed everyone but Rick and Carl off... I know it's the point of the series to be shocking, but the killing of the baby isn't sitting well with me at all... I did not like that. Like seriously, what the fuck? I actually haven't liked the way the series has gone the past dozen or so issues. Seems like shock value for the sake of it with no real purpose. It's not particularly good story telling either. Not like the first couple dozen issues. I may wind up dropping the series if he doesn't have some astonishing and amazing new direction.
  13. It means that the game is finished and has been mass produced. Means the game is finished, everything has been completed and it's ready to ship. To be a little more specific... They create a final master copy of the game (usually more than one obviously) that is then used for the mass production of the other discs that get shipped out. The reason it's called "gone gold", etc. is due to the very fact that the master copies are always gold (not literally but in colour).
  14. Beta runs from April 21st to May 5th. It supports up to 16 people, with 8 to a side in team games. This article details what you can expect of the Beta. With the "starter pack" obviously having more and then subsequent downloads once the main game is out.
  15. Good to know sensationalism and "political correctness" isn't getting the best of the movie due to Ledger's death. The movie should remain as envisioned no matter what. Is anyone else looking forward to the Batman: Gotham Knight DVD coming out shortly before the movie? Kind of like the Animatrix in design and should be interesting. Was hoping Bale would voice Batman in the bits, but getting Kevin Conroy back to do what he does best is just as awesome.
  16. Took me 5 hours yesterday guys... Just leave it and do something else. And that's the bittorrent method too. The HTML one apparently takes even longer. And be sure to go to id.konami.net to register a Konami name and ID crap, you'll need that.
  17. Apparently it was a printing error or some such. The slip that has the code on the back, the front has an email (mgobetasupport@konami.com) that someone I know emailed and got a response saying it would be fixed. You should give that a try as soon as you can. And this last half a month is crowded. Got the new Warhawk map and APC tomorrow, the Stardust add-on is out and looks good, with the new PixelJunk Monsters sometime this month looking yummy. Then the MGO Beta starts on the 21st, and then GTA IV on the 29th. Lots of good stuff.
  18. Pretty much what Cloudy posted and stok said. It's simply easier to say. Pronouncing each syllable would grow tiring. Then again, I never talk about the place to anyone.
  19. Quite a few people in my family play games when I think about it. When I was a kid my mother played a lot of games, A LOT. She was a pro at Castlevania and the Mario games, and beat Mega Man 2 on her own first try. And other various stuff, especially Tetris. She's also a big reason I started playing RPGs and adventure games since the original Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Zelda, etc. all interested her. She also played a fair bit when got our SNES, but mostly just Mario World, All Stars and Tetris 2. But after that she hasn't touched a game since for some reason. She did enjoy watching me play certain games as I got older. Primarily Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy VII and the GTA games come to mind. My father only occasionally once every few months touched the SNES, namely when he rented Super Battle Tank or the Strike games. Mostly to relive his army days or some shit. My uncles also played a fair bit, especially my favourite uncle. He had just about everything that came out, but that too kind of trailed off. I remember the Christmas my Grandma got them both PS2's and Vice City, to never really be used at all. Thinking of it though, my Grandma even had an NES, which she mostly played Tetris on. She also had a Playstation before anyone else in the family, and I have no idea why. I don't recall her ever using it. My one sister, brother-in-law and kids all generally have played games. My sister mostly sticks to old classics like Pac-man, or otherwise plays "simpler" games like tennis stuff or platform titles. My brother in law plays sports stuff and especially racing games, while my nephews play just about anything you'd expect (Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Fight Night, etc.). My niece doesn't seem to care, but likes random Nintendo stuff. But none of them compare to me and my girlfriend though, but a fair few of them do or have played games before.
  20. That's precisely what happened. Just look back at the beginning topics in Coin-Op. Ah, good times. I don't think it would be that feasibly worth it though. If more than one topic is necessary maybe create a thread for multi player and one for single player stuff? Considering how many game topics around here balloon out into dozens of pages, I don't see why it can't just stay in one thread.
  21. The MGO beta is up for download right now (in NA and Japan) if you have a promo code. I'm downloading it now (741 Mb). Anyone else like the new store layout? Aside from pictures not popping up quickly enough I love it, [Edit:] Well... it apparently has to update itself already... Tried the bittorrent method, which was slow as hell and then tried the html method which is almost as slow but slightly quicker. 3% down after 5 minutes... [Edit 2:] Anyone wanting to get in on the beta and such... set aside quite some time to just leave your PS3 on downloading the patch. It took me over 5 hours just now, with other people around different places generally having the same slowness if not worse.
  22. - NES - Super NES - Sega Genesis - Nintendo 64 - Playstation - Playstation 2 - GBA SP - Gamecube - Nintendo DS (original kind) - Wii - Playstation 3 - DS Lite - Xbox 360 - PSP Also at varying points had a Atari 2600, Gamegear, Gameboy Colour and Dreamcast. The Atari was the families and it only came to be known as "mine" as a kid when my sister moved out, I never used it and have no idea what happened to it. The Gamegear sucked and I let my father pawn it off to pay off a car payment, never saw any of the money for it. The Gameboy colour served me well, but I got most of the cost back by selling it to a friend's idiot brother. And I could have sworn I still had my Dreamcast, but looking around in some boxes I obviously forgot it at my father's years ago, so I'll never see it again. The NES to the PS2 were all mine, bought for me (except the PS2 which I purchased myself). Everything from the GBA SP forward had been a mutual purchase with my girlfriend and regardless, all of them are ours. Only recently did the PS2 get retired to a box. Served me well for almost 7 years. The original DS is only used when we play DS games together (namely Clubhouse games, Tetris, etc.). The DS Lite is used randomly, along with the PSP. The Wii... Well since getting it last year, I played Super Paper Mario Briefly... then Mario Galaxy and recently Smash Bros. I likely won't play it much anymore. She also doesn't play it much if at all. We both hate the waggle shit used ceaselessly. The 360 was used regularly up until our first conked out, but since I've grown leery and otherwise anything of interest has been transferred to the PS3 which we use for umpteen different uses. Always been a Nintendo guy, and subsequently loved all things Sony as I grew older. Nintendo has been disappointing me since the Gamecube first came out so I'm weary at future prospects, and the 360 was only bought on a whim anyways, so no other Microsoft console will find their way into our home in the future. The first was shit and I don't feel the 360 was justified, especially consider having a PS3 too. [Edit]: If PC's count, ours is up to snuff for top of the line stuff circa 2004/2005 with a decent amount of RAM, good processor and a Radeon x850. Oblivion could be played on high settings with not too much slowdown or clipping. But it's mostly become an office/screwing about machine anyways, so the random browser game is used.
  23. The thing that's really going to agonize me though... Downloading it on the 17th and waiting the four days with it just right there on the PS3.
  24. Yep pre-ordered it a couple of days ago and got my code. Will be nice to try out what MGS IV will play like. But til then back to Warhawk I go.
  25. Groundhog Day stands up well in my eyes. A bit of existentialism and romance tossed in to boot. And thinking of Bill Murray... The Ghostbusters movies count too.
