  1. Was going to pick it up when we were at the mall today (to further round out the small fortune we've spent the past week) but when I simply looked at the price I decided against it. $70? Sony can go fuck themselves with that ridiculous price.
  2. 1. Warhawk - PS3 - This game has made me love online. I used to hate the concept of playing online, and thus never did (some bad Starcraft and Counter Strike experiences back in the day). But damn is this game fun. Since it's release I've put in an hour or two every other day. It is just incredibly fun and has made getting the PS3 all the more worth it. Albeit stat problems, glitchers and cheaters have dimished it it's still fun. Despite the problems it has I still think it's tremendous fun. May not be the best this year per say, but damn if it's not the one I've had the most fun with. 2. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - PSP - Just as fun as it was all those years ago. And the added content has made it even better. Just a tremendous game overall and an outright classic. Nothing more really needs be said. 3. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - PS3 - A long (3 year) wait for the series to return to what originally made it great. Despite a disappointing ending and such, I've come to absolutely love it. Any problems I even may have are only there because I crave more of it. More arena matches, more worlds, more weapons... Can't get enough. 4. Halo 3 - XBox 360 - Great fun. I didn't play online much (since I just plain fucking suck at it the couple of times I tried), but the co-op and single player in the campaign were tremendous fun. A nice conclusion to the trilogy and a fun overall package. 5. Stuntman Ignition - XBox 360 - Never would have thought how fun this was. I never played the original, didn't even know this had been released, but I was rooting around the demo section of the Marketplace shortly after getting a 360 to see what may be interesting, saw this and figured "why not". The three missions it came with were great and I had to have more. So I got it and spent quite a bit of time just messing around with it trying to perfect everything. It's just one big ass action sequence after another, which is just awesome. None of them may really connect well with each other (even on the same movie) but these levels have more action and excitement packed in them than a lot of games. That's about it for now, may (and likely will) wind up changing it up once I actually get around to playing some of the games actually released this year. Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 are sitting in a stack completely untouched by me... Likely Uncharted and Mass Effect will join them. Any number of other games this year have been great or possibly are great too (Guitar Hero II/III, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, God of War II, Rogue Galaxy etc.) a lot of which I haven't even gotten around to. Damn lack of free time. This year has simply been stacked with goodness, especially the tail end... Next year's going to be just as bad.
  3. You can do what I did and go into the GM side of 24/7 mode and just create a roster of two guys In my case I used Undertaker and my Eddie Guerrero CAW. I turned off morale/injuries/etc. Just made a show and set it to rerun each week, then used the off days to train Eddie's stats. You get 3 training sessions a day instead of the 1 in the "career" portion. And with simulating you'll get points quick enough... Still takes forever. And by the time I got it up to what I want (took 20 minutes) the damn game froze... But yeah, training seems to be the only way to train stats which seems overly cumbersome and annoying.
  4. Yeah, you can use a battery charger for AAs with it. The Wiimote sucks batteries dry, so we bought a charger just for it. I've personally found that any multi-player game of worth doesn't use the nunchuck, but I'm sure games that will come out will likely begin requiring them.
  5. Beat the game with my girlfriend a couple of hours ago. The last few missions are evil when it comes to taking damage. Got both endings and was thoroughly depressed by both. Wish there was more of the game though. Seemed a bit rushed. Eh. Was still fun. Albeit great in concept, the online stuff semi-shit if only because of who you wind up playing with. The four maps have already gotten dull (the placement of money, enemies and sequence of "events" are the same each go around). And getting killed by a teammate is fucking irritating. I know it's a partial aspect of the game, but I was in a game where one dude killed all of us with a grenade right at the beginning then bragged how he'd get out with all of the money... "What the fuck, how'd you guys spawn as cops?" was all he said as the five of us converged on him. I suppose no one told him about the way the game works... Also the more players you add the less likely anyone will get out with anything considering everyone respawns as a cop. It's probably because of my irritance at team killing in Warhawk... but playing something that glorifies it if not outright promotes it is disturbing... Especially considering there are no true consequences for doing so. Albeit going into the bank level, having three of the guys turn on three of the other guys with only two of us left as non traitors, then taking out the traitors and newly spawned player cops while watching my only partner left get gunned down as he tried to screw me over by leaving early in the getaway car... Ah priceless. I got out as sole survivor with over $2+ million. EDIT: And if Jack Thompson ever finds out how many police officers you indiscriminately kill in this game, he'll have a field day.
  6. Just got to Havana with my girlfriend, and damn is this game fun. Very, very fucking intense. Just like a gritty crime thriller. The bullets flying everywhere and the brutality of it. I fear Jack Thompson hearing about the game though, he'll have a field day with all of the cops that get gunned down... Also... Spoiler: Click here to view Lynch starting to freak out in the streets after the Rekomoto building was brilliant. Him seeing cops everywhere and some people with pigs heads. Fucking great, my girlfriend freaked out when she saw a cop right in front of her and shot the fuck out of them, while I was sitting there wondering why she just gunned down an innocent person. Fits so well with Lynch's character. Anyone who liked Freedom Fighters should play this, it is right up that alley. I also don't get the big deal with some of the more negative reviews (albeit GameTrailers said it was good, and I pretty much go by their reviews anymore). The aiming is good, with realistic recoil and effects. The AI is decent and the graphics are perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. Just a really cool game. Although I fear that we're only a few hours in and it'll end soon.
  7. Picked it up yesterday with my girlfriend and tried out some simple stuff. My impressions of the demo were quite false, despite only having two matches this is damn fun. I like the new controls and everything flows nicely. I actually had a very long ECW rules match between my Monty and her Punk. But with that in mind... How do you put someone through the flaming table? I set it on fire no problem, but actually putting her through the damn thing didn't want to work at all. I tried a top rope move, whipping her onto it and even tried a few ultimate control moves. So yeah... We fought for a good 15 minutes with a flaming table sitting in the ring. I suppose later today I'll try out the dreaded 24/7 mode and see what the problems are.
  8. I know the sentiment is everywhere... But damn... Kane & Lynch, Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Mass Effect and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. These are the games I likely will try to pick up over the next week... Fuck. That doesn't begin to count all of the games previously released over the past few months I have picked up (Metriud Prime 3: Corruption, Warhawk, Halo 3, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, Castlevania: Dracula X Chroniciles, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga). Then you have LittleBigPlanet, Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Mercenaries 2 and a random amount of other stuff next year. Not counting what I can't remember and what may wind up being great. If it wasn't for having dual incomes and the sharing of the same hobby with my girlfriend (and lack of vices) we'd be broke. So yeah... I just realized how much money I'd be forking over in the next couple of days (thankfully I can get Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 together for $90 at Best Buy). Never before have so many great and awesome games come out all at once. Back in 2004 was bad, but this is ridiculous. Cheers to the makers of such fantastic entertainment... I must say, the video game industry has truly risen above what was once expected of it. And all with a three main console market along with two fairly (well one monstrously) big handhelds that was once stated to be impossible and would destroy the industry. Hah. Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the sheer excellence coming forth from game companies? I don't even have enough time to play everything.
  9. I agree with the lack of coverage, it's why I honestly don't know much about the game. Problem is with RPGs, they have to be played. You can't really show a video of someone tweaking some characters settings and have people go ga-ga. However once played, you can get the greatness. But Game of the Year wise? Nah, very highly doubt it. Not with the coverage and ratings Mario Galaxy has been getting from just about everywhere.
  10. Well after finally being able to download it. Must say I am very impressed. Feels like a combination of Gears of War and Tomb Raider. The animations are very smooth. I'm not overly impressed with it graphically, but the sound effects and such are very good. Albeit, I hate demos that just end with no real reason. And I have to agree, even on easy it was kind of difficult, I died a couple of times in the big brawl near the end with guys coming everywhere. The AI is awesome though, which I think will make the game. Shooting a guy in his side to watch him slump up against a wall holding himself and taking the occasional pot shot after was cool. Same with flanking you and their aim with the grenades was evil. I wasn't too interested before, but I have to say, I very well may get this when it comes out.
  11. Get a 360. If you're looking for games here and now that are fantastic, get a 360. However if you're looking to the future so to speak, I'd say the PS3. LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, God of War III, new Final Fantasy games, Infamous along Naughty Dog and Insomniac (current and future) games and the possibility of Kingdom Hearts are all why I wanted to get one (along with the supremely disappointing Lair, and phenomenal Warhawk). However, my 360 gets used constantly. Mainly because of how many co-op games are on it along with And when it comes to the multiplatform titles, I go 360 instantly for two reasons. Rumble and achievements. Sure, not that big a deal in the grand scheme but they're something that I enjoy that the PS3 lacks (and I refuse to buy the Dual Shock 3 on pure principle because Sony are fucking idiots). Also, with most multi-platform titles running better on the 360 it's a no brainer. Albeit my obsession with Warhawk trumps all. But that's a completely personal preference. What it, as it always does, comes down to is simply what do you want to play? Do Sony's exclusives do more for you than Microsoft's? Because that's what it will be in the future, the 1st parties making exclusives with everything else being multi-platform (barring Nintendo of course due to the controller). As for the differences in the consoles... The 60Gb is the one to own as it houses the actual PS1 and PS2 component hardware. The 80Gb, aside from coming with Motorstorm and the extra 20Gb uses software emulation (much like the 360 with the Xbox). The 40Gb is stripped down though, lacking some USB and memory ports along with having no backwards compatibility whatsoever.
  12. I would download it, but it wouldn't boot up the store... And of course now we finally get a down for maintenance message. Lovely. My experience with Sony's online stuff continues to suck.
  13. You should be able to restore the system to it's factory defaults by going to 'Settings' on the XMB, going to 'System Settings' and then going to 'Restore PS3 System'. It'll format the whole thing.

    Beowulf

Anyone else excited for it? I've been waiting ever since I first heard word of it. And with a week and a few days left, the anticipation is bugging me. The R rated trailer can be found here. While the all audiences trailer can be found here. You got Neil Gaiman on the screenplay. You have Robert Zemeckis directing. Crispin Glover, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Solie, John Malkovich, and others providing voices. With Ray Winstone as Beowulf. That's just stacked. Albeit there's been talk that it's censored for it's nudity and gore, but now it's being said it's all intact but with a PG 13 rating because it's animated. Can't wait regardless.
  15. Definitely. The arena stuff's popularity is what spawned Deadlocked. Albeit, not as liked as they probably expected. I'm actually disappointed this didn't have as many challenges as the previous (adding to my sense that it was rushed). I miss my 60 rounds of Lombax death...
  16. Going Commando (Locked and Loaded over the pond) and Up Your Arsenal (not sure what it was changed to, if at all) are fantastic games. Absolutely worth it. Deadlocked (otherwise known as Gladiator) not so much. GC and UYA are pure awesome, no other way to put it honestly. I'm heavily biased though since I absolutely love the series. Size Matters for the PSP is also very good. As for Tools of Destruction, I loved it but have to admit no where near as much as the others. It didn't have the same charm, hard to place really. It felt like more of the same. But I absolutely unequivocally do not like the end. Obvious spoilers about the ending... Spoiler: Click here to viewThe Zoni not being explained and Clank being taken off was such a horrid copout. Games should not have cliffhanger endings. It's one thing for a TV show or comic series or a book series, but not for something you're paying $60 for. My main complaint is the game builds to a point and seems like it's unfinished. By the time you return to Fastoon and take on Tachyon it feels like there should still be more. Halo 2 got away with it because of the multiplayer, this has pretty much nil to compensate for the slight. Otherwise though, it was tremendous fun... Albeit it was quickly replaced with Guitar Hero III, and now Oblivion since I've decided to actually play it... which will turn to Kane & Lynch and then Mario Galaxy with Mass Effect in the wings... Ugh.
  17. To answer the question about the PS3... Yeah, you have to press the PS button in the middle to turn it on in much the same way as the 360. The charging is also done by USB (the PS3 comes with an incredibly short one), and I generally find the controllers/charging/etc. worse with the PS3. Doesn't seem to hold as much of a charge either.
  18. I played Through The Fire And Flames on Expert... just for fun... I can get 3%. I don't know if I should feel proud or sad.
  19. That is beyond awesome. Not a fan of the one day expiration idea. What if you get a really great stage you like and want to keep? And glad Dedede is in. That's one thing I missed from Melee, more villains. Try and toss in Ridley and get K. Rool and I'm good.
  20. Picked it up yesterday from Bestbuy. Got the Guitar Hero II bundle for the 360 and just got the game for III. Gonna have to get rid of II for the PS2 I suppose. My girlfriend does great on medium, 5 starring things and getting 95% notes hit at the least, up until she decided to quit after Before I Forget. I in turn, decided to try it out since I'm not too shabby at medium on the other two... Slow Ride kicked my ass. Hard. This game is much more difficult than the other two. My fingers cannot comprehend the constant use of blue and switching to green and then hitting yellow and red, followed by yellow and blue, then red and green... and...
  21. I suspect you are getting the game of the year version of oblivion. I hope they put the expansion for oblivion as downloadable content as I have the original oblivion for ps3. Now on topic. I have been playing a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics for PSP. It is pretty much the same as the PS1 version which was an amazing game except now it has animated cutscenes, translation fixes and you can recruit Balthier of Final Fantasy XII and Luso of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Great game and for anyone who likes strategy rpgs this is a must buy for your PSP.
  22. Warhawk is beyond loverly. It's pretty much the only thing I've played the past month (outside of the week or so with Halo 3). Something about it is downright addicting. And now that fixes for almost all of my problems are on the way, I'm happy as can be.
  23. If only the other two and especially the games would lower in price here, then you'd see more people buying them. Spending $10 on top of the American price for a game is robbery. Then again, considering pricing over in Europe and elsewhere, I have no right to complain. I especially want the Virtual Console stuff and Live Arcade stuff to lower in cost. Nintendo especially is price gouging.
