Roadrunner United

Having seen the rosters, I do love some of the inclusions, such as most of the ones Tristy mentioned.

The one thing I dislike about the album myself though is that everything is solid, but just a little unspectacular. Maybe I need to give it some more listens, but nothing lept out and hit me in the face as an outright awesome song.

How they can make a member of a band that only really come to prominence this year, and have "flavour of the week" written all over them, the "team captain" ahead of Pete Steele and KING FUCKING DIAMOND, even Joey Jordison, is beyond me.

I understand he was unavailable, but it should have been Max Cavalera.

Unless I read the comment wrong, Joey Jordison IS a captain.

And King Diamond wasn't chosen because he isn't on Roadrunner anymore (I think...), which is why he only made a guest appearance.

And as was said, the Trivium bloke is for the future, more than anythig.

I'm only really interested in the Cristian Machado/Souren "Mike" Sarkisyan combo "No Mas Control" and the song featuring Corey Taylor on lead vocals. The amount of Matt Heafy on this CD really disturbs me for starters, the "flavour of the month" (as I personally hope, if Trivium's music interest died after this album I'd be a happy man) should never have got his influence onto so many songs. That's probably the main reason I didn't buy the CD and won't be buying this CD in the future. If Heafy and Trivium were the artist and band they are made out to be I wouldn't have a problem with so much inclusion.

Maybe I just miss the point, but why are Trivium "flavour of the month"? They've got a lot of hype, I admit, but doesn't mean that they'll be around for a few months, and then just dissapear (which to me denotes what a flavour of the month is).

And TAFKA, just because it has his influence, doesn't mean the songs are going to be Trivium-esque songs, as there are such a mix of artists, its unlikely.

Maybe they're not the flavour of the month, maybe they are, but I still think it's foolish giving them such a big role as we don't know whether they will last or not. If they are only around for a few months before disappearing into obscurity, then it'll make Roadrunner look foolish for their involvement. I have no problem with them being involved, but I'm not fond of it being in such a big way, I think it would have worked a lot better if all the team captains had been "veteran" artists, heading up a team of younger up-and-coming musicians.

I don't think it would, personally, make more sense to have 4 veteran artists. Giving a chance for one of them to pit his wits against 3 of the other vets makes a lot more sense to me.

Also, none of Roadrunner's newer bands have taken off in the same way that Trivium have, so they are probably thier biggest new act, thus making sense for the newcomer to be chosen from them.

It's a risk, but the music on the CD is good, and I personally like Trivium, so no complaints here.
