Since the only international football I see on TV is the rare Champions League match on ESPN, does the US have a decent chance of getting to the knockout round with that group?

Probably not.

I like England's group personally.

I also like the amount of high profile last matches there are going to be (England vs Sweden, Netherlands vs Argentina, and Italy vs Czech Rep if I remember correctly).

Although Germany will probably piss thier group.

My only problem I foresee is Paraguay nabbing a result. Then, depending on how other results go, needing to get a result against Sweden is gonna be tough, so hopefully we already have 6 points, so don't have to worry.

Also, I swear it isn't as simple as A teams play B teams, and so on, or did I miss something? They always seem to make it a lot more complex than that.

The position of a team in the group determines the fixtures list. For example, Germany will kick off the tournament by playing Costa Rica, their second game will be Poland and their final game will be Ecuador.

Not only do we have a good group, we should also get an easy game in the second round. We also miss out on France, Italy and Brazil until the final which is all good.

That draw did me head in at times. Did they really need to draw out Serbia, and then after putting them with the Argies they draw out Brazil and Mexico as well.

My picks are:

Germany/Poland

England/Sweden

Holland/Argentina

Portugal/Mexico

Italy/USA

Brazil/Australia

France/South Korea

Spain/Ukraine

That would give us Poland in the second round, before we face the winners of Hollands group or the runner up of Mexicos group in the quarters. That means that there is a huge chance we will face Argies or Portugal, and inevitably lose on penalties

On the positive note, I'm looking forward to seeing some of the smaller Nations with a chance (like Ivory Coast and Ghana) against some of the bigger countries (like Argies and Italy)

Apparantly in the practice draw we got South Korea, Ghana and Croatia which would also have been a good group. We should go through against Sweden, Paraguay and T&T though

I am guessing that A-B C-D and so on for the knockout round correct? IF that is true the US would likely be screwed if they could get past the first round since they could possibly be playing Brazil. That said I am really looking forward to seeing the US play in the World Cup this year to see if they can get to the knockout round again.
