No it wasn't, you just don't understand what hype means, apparently Rooney is just hype when he's proven Internationally and in the highest league, whilst Walcott isn't hype, when he's only played half a season in a lower division (which most people haven't had the chance to see) and is being judged by highlights and talkshow discussions, THAT is hype.

Exactly.

I think Walcott's a good player, I've actually seen a bit of Championship football this season, but he cannot be compared to Rooney at all - when Rooney was 16 he was frightening the shit out of Premiership defenses. Hardly the same as playing the likes of Crewe Alexandra really.

yay for blindness \o/

AT THAT AGE - all Rooney had done was come off a bench and score a free kick and from then was hyped up to be the saviour of all English football. If you HONESTLY believe that Walcott has had that much hype you're just as delisional as you seem to think I am :ohwell:

You were saying how Rooney is JUST hype, Rooney has proven himself, fine he's overrated by some, but people have already formed opinions on Walcott from nothing, there have been 12 or some games (I doubt many have seen more than a 1/3 of those), highlight reals (which will never show the bad points) and football discussion shows (which is someone elses opinion, complete hype), thats not blindness thats me not blowing my load about how much better than Rooney he's going to be.

And we're the club that seems to be on the verge of signing him, you won't see me calling him the next big thing till we've seen enough to judge him.

Walcott has literally played a handful of games in a lower league than Rooney at the same age, who was scoring against teams like Arsenal who are one of the best teams in the league with a screamer. Walcott looks a good player but he is very much hype whist Rooney having made it at Premiership side at the same age was running wild over some of the best teams in the world. Hype, maybe but Rooney was proving and has proved himself. For all we know Walcott will turn into another Pennett who iirc was signed for alot whist young too.

He's a good player, strong and has a decent footballing brain - seems a logical successor to Sheringham. Did really well with Norwich in the top flight, he and Damien Francis nearly kept a very average team up. He'll do well, especially as Matt Etherington will give him a ton of service.
