Advice is needed.

I am going away for a weekend soon (so plan your celebrations) for my birthday and I want some music to play for the woman and friends as part of the party. What music you cry? Basicially, fucked up shit.

Whatever is odd, weird and off the wall. Yes, we will be drunk and off our tits whatever helps induce trips. ;) Some sort of explanation about your choices and what its like will be useful although the stuff I am after may be hard to do that for.

Ta lads.

Definitely get yourself some C A Quintet, a very early beginning to the psychedelic era of rock, but with emphasis on oddball music. It's very good music in general, with a good emphasis on organs, and incorporates a variety of sound effects. It can definitely set the mood for a strange journey, it might almost make your experience feel like a movie, with this as the soundtrack. Look for the album "Trip Thru Hell", brilliant album. Seriously, I'm listening to this now, you fucking need this.

Iron Butterfly's Ina Gadda Da Vida is probably one of the more cliche answers, but it's a great song none the less. I think it's considered to be the epitome of psychedelic rock, and is often featured to accompany drug induced experiences in movies and television.

If you want some synth sort of music, give Dark Day a try. There isn't much detail to go into other than it's very dark, and brooding synth music, but could set a nice mood for a fucked up night.

Geza-X is pretty fucking off the wall stuff. It's sort of punky, but with synthed guitars, goofy vocals, and involves an assortment of zany sounds and lyrics. It's actually a lot of fun, and very enjoyable music, but is probably a very good choice for your party.

And honestly, regular music itself can be pretty god damn mind blowing in it's own right with the right drug.

Mr Bungle, An Albatross, Secret Chiefs 3, Carnival In Coal, Circus Contraption, Pitbulls In The Nursery, The Tiger Lillies, SunnO))), Estradasphere, Tom Waits, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Syd Barrett, John Zorn, Sigh, Ghengis Tron, Primus, Voivod, Moondog, The Berzerker, Flaming Lips, Julian Cope, 13th Floor Elevators, Bearsuit, Jennifer Gentle...

Any or all of the above can be fairly mental, and seems to fit the bill.

Expanding on Aphex Twin, you generally can't got wrong with your 'glitchy-electronica' kind of stuff, like;

Venetian Snares ( http://www.myspace.com/venetiansnares )

(Chris) Clark ( http://www.myspace.com/throttleclark )

Flashbulb ( http://www.myspace.com/bennjordan )

Telefon Tel Aviv ( http://www.myspace.com/telefontelaviv )

Squarepusher ( http://www.myspace.com/squarepushermusic )

etc.

Stars Of The Lid are awesome...possibly TOO ambient though. But one of the best albums I've heard in an age, so I'm tossing it out there. :shifty: ( http://www.myspace.com/starsofthelid )

Boards Of Canada, American Analog Set and DnTel are great electronic artists too - http://www.myspace.com/abeautifulplace - http://www.myspace.com/amanset - http://www.myspace.com/dntel

As for 'rocky' bands. There's always; The Sound Of Animals Fighting ( http://www.myspace.com/thesoundofanimalsfighting ) The Mars Volta ( http://www.myspace.com/themarsvolta ), Hella ( http://www.myspace.com/realhella ), Of Montreal ( http://www.myspace.com/ofmontreal ).....
