Some brilliant films that didn't make the list (Strangelove, The Crow, Citizen Kane, Full Metal Jacket, Fear & Loathing, Donnie Darko), This Is Spinal Tap so that's a shame, but also some shit, which is always promising (40-Year Old Virgin, Requiem For A Dream)...

Snakes On A Plane isn't an especially good film, really, is it? It's two or three one-liners, with two hours of plot stretched around them.

I don't like 300, that kind of "epic" blockbuster rarely appeals to me.

Alien is utterly fantastic, saw it again for the first time in years a few weeks ago, absolutely sublime. It's got so much of what makes a great horror movie, and (apart from the ridiculous mini-mouth thing) one of the most convincing and terrifying alien creatures ever in cinema.

Casino Royale was pretty good, one of the best of the Bond series, largely just because it dared to be different to the rest of the series, and portrayed Bond a lot more like the original character; a right bastard with the charm to make you forget about it, rather than a campy self-parody. Wouldn't have made my list, but I can see why it's up there.

The Warriors is great but, like all "cult" films, has a ton of failings. But the greatness outweighs them, and often the failings just add to the "cult" factor and make it yet more watchable.

Die Hard is fucking bollocks. The only good thing it ever brought us was the stupid cheats in Die Hard Trilogy for PS1, and the censored "Yippy ky-aye Mister Falcon!". Otherwise, mindless action bullshit, I couldn't care less.

Silence Of The Lambs is probably the first truly brilliant film on the list.

...and The Shining the second. Yes, it's Jack Nicholson playing CRAZY JACK NICHOLSON like he does in EVERY. OTHER. FILM., but my fucking God, this is the perfect example of it. If any actor can do "scary and unhinged", it's Jack. Couple that with some of Kubrick's finest ever work, and this should be way way higher.

Never cared for Indiana Jones. Never watched it as a kid, and so it was never really something I could get in to later in life.

And the same pretty much goes for Back To The Future. Everyone I know that likes it saw it as a kid, and it's a kind of nostalgia kick to watch it again, I never saw it as a kid, and didn't seen until I was seventeen or eighteen and it just didn't appeal, seemed to be a load of tat, but I can see why people would like it.

Die Hard didn't rank last year? It's only the greatest popcorn action flick of all-time, people!

Silence of the Lambs didn't rank last year?!

Not a bad addition this time around, much better than the start. I do think The Shining is pretty overrated though, but that's mainly because the book is ten times more terrifying. Oh and because Shelly Duvall is the drizzling shits.

Yay! More lists that Ollie didn't vote in that he's now here to criticize on a daily basis! Woot!

Firstly, Spinal Tap, Fear & Loathing, Gump, Lebowski and Walk the Line not making it makes me sad. They're all fantastic movies, and should definitely have been in. I'd go as far as to say Spinal Tap and Lebowski shoul have been top 10 material, but heh, i suppose its not to be this year. But it doesn't bother me all that much, because those films didn't make the cut, but neither did Donnie Dire Darko. Every cloud, I suppose.

Right then, onto the list...

I stand by my opinion that Snakes on a Plane is a great popcorn movie. We all got caught up in the hype, and we all went to see it, expecting to see one of the most piss poor performances of Sammy L.'s life, have a good laugh at some really dire moments in the film and come out feeling like an experienced critic. But my opinion was completely changed when I saw it, it wasn't a piss poor film, it was a good hour and a half of pretty full on, good fun, make-you-jump moments and great one-liners. Whether it should be making the top 50 cut or not, I'm not sure, but it definitely was a great way to spend an evening, and so I'm not going to criticize it making the list.

I still haven't seen the 300, but it looks like pure testoreone fullled quasi-erotica for the 21st century.

I'm not as big on Alien as a lot of people are, and I do consider it somewhat out-of-date and quite over-rated (which is ironic, as one of my favourite films is the Exorcist, but what the hell!), it's a good film for its time, but I much, much, much prefer its sequels, and the spin-off game for the Playstation, which was brutally good.

Casino Royale was a great film, and really broke the mold as far as Bond films go. I'm sceptical of rating any Bond film in a short-list for top 50 films, but if any of the post-Connery films deserve it, it's Casino Royale for sure.

I never saw the Warriors, but I played the game for a little while. And the game was nowt but full-on, balls to the walls, testosterone. So I kinda expect it to be there on a board like this.

Die Hard  Easily the best action film of all time, with the possible exception of Face/Off. That's all I can really say about Die Hard, because that's all Die Hard is. It's christmas, and it's guns, and it's Yippe-Ki-Yay (I still don't truly understand what that means).

Silence of the Lambs definitely deserves its place, and possibly should be higher (it didn't rank last year? Seriously EWB?), but the hundreds of utterly shite sequels and prequels that's come out of it has kind of ruined the Hannibal character for me. Still, it truly is a fantastic film, so kudos.

And we move onto The Shining, and the film that egged on Jack Nicholson getting cast as a quasi-psycho weirdo in every film he's ever been in since. I saw The Shining in two halves, the first part I saw I don't remember as I was quite drunk, and the second part I remember as being one of the most bizarre pieces of cinema ever. There were men with animal heads, lots of snow and some general strangeness that I could never get my head around. I suppose I'd have to see it properly before I could judge, but it is regarded as a great, so I'm not shocked its on the list.

I was brought up on The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Indiana Jones, so yay for Raiders of the Lost Ark. Absolutely great film that should be mandatory viewing for any child between the ages of 7-11, because Ford is easily what every boy espires to be, and if anyone says that they don't want that hat, they're a filthy liar.

Again, another one that was pretty much drilled into me as a kid was Back to the Future, and there's no doubt that it deserves its spot here. Great film with an amazing plot, and some brilliant effects for its time. Definitely a good choice.

Mad Max, EWB? Seriously now? Sigh... If it's not Beyond Thunderdome it doesn't rank in my mind.

I've had Heat on DVD for about a year now (it came in a pack with Goodfellas and True Romance), but I'm yet to watch it. It looks pretty swish tho.

Never seen Army of Darkness, the box-art looks shite tho.

Yay for Trainspotting. Great film right there, which I haven't seen in an age. Not really sure what I can say about it in particular except it's one of the finest book to film conversions ever, Ewan McGreggor is fantastic and Danny Boyle is a demi-god for his amazing direction.

The tree rape is in Evil Dead, not Army Of Darkness. Army Of Darkness is awesome because it's one of the best films ever made; Bruce Campbell, Three Stooges homages, stop-motion skeletons, and the finest one-liners going. It's a masterpiece.

I'm having serious doubts about the mental stability of the people who voted on this list. The people who saw fit to leave This Is Spinal Tap off and who voted Old School and Mad Max ahead of American Psycho and Die Hard respectively.

1. The Usual Suspects

2. The Shawshank Redemption

3. The Departed

4. Die Hard - 45th

5. Battle Royale

6. This Is Spinal Tap

7. Clerks

8. Dogma

9. Hot Fuzz

10. The Warriors - 46th

11. Equilibrium

12. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

13. The Shining - 43rd

14. Shaun of the Dead

15. The Simpsons Movie (fuck off)
