The Better Version of the iPod Shuffle Game

1) Roxy Music - "Slave To Love"

Er...sure. Not a huge Roxy Music fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this song's all right.

2) Cake - "Sheep Go To Heaven, Goats Go To Hell"

The theme of this list seems to be "Songs I haven't listened to in months". <_< Although this is a good one.

3) Brian Setzer Orchestra - "Sing, Sing, Sing"

There's something we haven't had much of on these lists, 90s swing instrumentals. No idea of this is really BSO, but it's awesome nonetheless.

4) Queen - "Killer Queen"

Awesome. Queen are my favourite band ever, and this song is a large part of the reason why.

5) Paul Anka - "Everybody Hurts"

A few years ago, Paul Anka put out a CD of himself covering some pop/rock stuff in his swing style. It's not bad.

6) David Bowie - "Suffragette City"

Considering the amount of Bowie I have, I'm surprised I got through half the list without any. This isn't one of my favourites, but it's still good.

7) Jeff Healey Band - "Roadhouse Blues"

Awesome cover version by the greatest blind Canadian musician of all time.

8) Alanis Morrissette - "Hands Clean"

Not too proud of this one.

9) The New Pornographers - "All The Things That Go To Make Heaven And Earth"

One of the catchier songs off Challengers.

10) Queen - "Hammer To Fall"

Only recently grown on me.

On this version, it's all all Matthew Good (Band) shuffle!

1. Matthew Good Band - Load Me Up

Oh man, this was around the time that Beautiful Midnight was just starting to take off and I really started to pay more attention. I must have watched Much more hours than any of my friends, sorting through the shit until they had this video on... I think I ended up recording it on a VHS that I found not too long ago when my room flooded and I was rooting through what is left. This song really should've launched them into America more, but anyone who knows about Matt and America knows what's going on there... it's really a shame.

2. Matthew Good - Silent Army In The Trees

Ohh, this is a new demo that he played on his last acoustic tour that I had the pleasure of attending. It's my favorite of his new batch consisting of about 6 or 7 songs since the last album... it just flows really good as an acoustic, and if I had to point somebody to song to describe his most recent stylings... I would have to say that it would be this one. I'm hoping for a better recorded version (as everything that exists right now is live, but sounds amazing due to the places he chose to play for the acoustic tour).

3. Matthew Good Band - Jenni's Song

This ranks among my all time favorite Matt Good songs, and I would dare say that it's my favorite off Beautiful Midnight. Just a great song for whatever you're doing I think, well that's what I use it for at least. This is actually the first song I heard off the album that wasn't a single and it really got me into hearing more of it.

4. Matthew Good - Champions Of Nothing

A nine and a half minute track to open his most recently CD, and since I really wanted to listen through it from the start to finish it was the best way to. I like his recent methods of sampling and using voice effects at the start of his songs, it adds something instead of distracting me... which is what seems to happen with other bands.

5. Matthew Good Band - Whispering In The Dark

Oh... this is old and pretty much one of his sappiest songs, but I still like it. It can make you really happy or nearly make you cry depending on when you listen to, and I believe that both have happened to me. My girlfriend told me she used to listen to this one in her room and just.. spin around with her eyes closed, and that's pretty much the perfect explanation of what this song feels like.

6. Matthew Good Band - Everything Is Automatic

Oh Matt, you were so influential in my initial thoughts of "the world is fucked up!" that a lot of your songs along these lines could've been anthems for me during certain portions of my life. It's still an awesome song, and feeling cynical or not, it sums up the world pretty good I'd say... just from the title.

7. Matthew Good - While We Were Hunting Rabbits

Fucking. Epic. That's all that really has to be said, from start to finish. I've been trying to figure out a way to get "I'm a boat on the ocean, I'm just a ship lost at sea" tattooed on me for the past couple of years... I should really look into ways of doing that.

8. Matthew Good - North American For Life

Look to number 6 and you pretty much have what I think about this song. WOAH YEAH! ALRIGHT! NORTH AMERICAN FOR LIFE!

9. Matthew Good Band - Raygun

This is the song that should've shot him initially into America, awesome, awesome track. I suppose it did good to getting him something here in Canada, so it wasn't totally wasted.

10. Matthew Good - Song For The Girl

Our song. :)

I have 6000 Songs. Let's see what the cat dragged in.

1.) Polaris - Hey Sandy

This song brings back memories, it's a song everyone should know, even if you didn't know the title of it, considering it's the theme song from Pete and Pete. Upon closer listening, it's a guy wanting to be shot. Not the best theme for a Kid's Show?

2.) Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life

Yet another song from the 90's, another song I remember vividly from my childhood. And once again, the song is more then it originally sounds, involving Crystal Meth addiction in it. Love the song regardless.

3.) Prozzak - It's Not Me It's You

In all honesty, I didn't even know I had this song. It's set to the beat of the song from the Nutcracker, Sugar Plum Fairy and whatnot? It's obviously about the singer being broken up with. Really poppish, not bad, but nothing memorable.

4). Sufjan Stevens - Abraham

I love Sufjan Stevens, but I just couldn't get into this song, too slowpaced.

5). Meredith Brooks - Bitch

Generic 90's Feminist Song #51.

Next.

6.) Sly And The Family Stone - Everyday People

If you don't like this song, you have no taste in music. And it introduced the phrase "Different Strokes for Different Folks" to me.

7). Tom Petty - Don't Do Me Like That

I'm not a big Tom Petty fan, but I enjoy this song quite a bit. No real comment on it.

8). Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister

Greatest use of Cowbell this side of Blue Oyster Cult, and it gets it's job done. It's a rock song that is memorable.

9). Eiffel 65 - Blue

Yet another 90's song. No comment as well, besides the fact that I'm ashamed that I have it.

10). Norman Greenbaum - Spirit In The Sky

Proof that even Jews can love Jesus, and still make a decent song.

Not the best theme for a Kid's Show?

Not the best... or best?

Shuffle Game: Stuck at work with nothing to do edition. AND GO.

1. "At Last (Christian's Theme)" by Jim Johnston

... yes. A wrestling theme. I. I have wrestling themes. I don't usually... seek them out or anything! I just used to download them. Ahahaha. Hahaha. Uh. But yeah, this is the version of his theme from RIGHT after he turned heel, when it was a clear Bohemian Rhapsody knock-off. And it was the best theme he EVER HAD, and I was so annoyed when a month later he suddenly had his next (though still good enough) one. But that was fine. And then a year and a half later they dropped At Last entirely and gave him shitty, generic music until he got Waterproof Blonde, which was pretty cool. But yeah. This theme. It's pretty good, though the sound quality of the file sucks.

2. "Battle Comrade" by Tenpei Sato

This is off of the Disgaea: Hour of Darkness OST. Meaning we have now hit both my wrestling geek side and my gaming geek side. A song from anime is surely next. I love this song, though; it's cheesy in an awesome way, sounding like an 80's sentai theme or some shit, and the singer does some awesome notebending where his voice is sort of wavering in pitch during the chorus. I can dig it.

3. "Shin Gakki (5)" from Azumanga Daioh

... well. At least I called it. This is a BGM of which there are multiple versions that very in pace and mood, and this is apparently the... fifth version? It utilizes a ukelele very well and oh god I am feeling like more and more of a huge geek just talking about this. Er. It's catchy and pleasant, and the Azumanga Daioh soundtrack fits the anime very well in its breezy, dream-like, light-headed tone. If that makes any sense. Moving on, hopefully to a song by an actual band.

4. "Love You Madly" by Cake

Yessssss. This song is awesome. Cake makes the exact kind of music that I appreciate the most; the lyrics are catchy, infectious and witty, the music is poppy, hook-filled, and fun, and they never take themselves too seriously OR become campy. This is just a simple, straight-forward, awesome song about... well. Being madly in love, clearly. If I weren't at work I'd probably be dancing as I listen to it, it's that good.

5. "Mr. Moonlight" by The Beatles

... and now one of my least favorite songs from my favorite bands. This is a complete throwaway track from Beatles for Sale which is pretty much the most generic early Beatles song ever, and their vocal harmonies sound really flat and grating. I think it's John on solo vocals here, and he does okay, but he's working with really sub-par material here.

6. "Love Phantom" by B'z

B'z! I always forget about them. I love this song, from the goofy spoken-word intro, the usage of strings to make a really weird "thematic" opening or somesuch... really, this is like everything goofy about classic rock ever rolled into one song, but it's actually pretty solid, thanks primarily to Tak Matsumoto's really fun guitar work, which is really one of the best things about B'z in general. Sure, it's goofy, but it's rock and roll, and probably the Japanese equivalent to classic rock. So what the hell, rock on, "Love Phantom."

7. "Modern OZ (Chris Sabin)" by Dale Oliver

... ANOTHER wrestling theme? Oh god. This was Chris Sabin's first theme in TNA, before they edited in "HAIL SABIN" like tools. I really dig it, though, because it sounds like what I imagine what music in our bizarre dystopian steampunk future will be like.

... that's totally what the future will be like. Shut up.

8. "Your Heart's in Good Hands" by Al Green

I like Al Green. I don't like this song. It's like he's singing over fucking smooth jazz. He sounds good, because he's Al Green and Al Green always sounds good, but this song really kind of sucks. Oh god, and he even has generic backup singers. Fuck, this is bad. Hitting the skip button now.

9. "You Only Live Once" by The Strokes

Oh man, from one end of the spectrum to the other! I love this song a lot. First Impressions of Earth was a massive disappointment, and it's almost made worse by the fact that this, the first track, is so damn GOOD. It's everything fun about The Strokes condensed into one track, with catchy drumming, great guitar work, and enjoyable, if vaguely nonsensical-sounding lyrics from Julian Casablancas. Oh The Strokes. Record more songs like this and less songs like 80% of the rest of this album.

10. "Eyes of Righteousness (Reverend D-Von)" by Jim Johnston

... a-another wrestling theme. I... I really don't have THAT many, this is just a very strange series of coincidences.

But no, I actually love this song, in all of it's cheesy gospel-y glory. It's just... catchy and amusing, and I loved the Reverend D-Von gimmick, so fuck you, haters. But. Augh. Next time I do this there better be no wrestling themes, dammit.

I feel I should do another 10 out of the masses I have.

1). Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Where to begin with this song... first off. It's one of the greatest cover versions of any song ever, and Buckley makes it his own, blowing away the barely sung version of Leonard Cohen. Secondly, Buckley sounds so pained when he was singing this, driving forward the emotion that the John Cale version totally missed out. All in all, an amazing song.

2). ohGr - Water

A song I picked up during the last month, I'm not too big into Industrial at all, but this song is memorable to me at least.

3). The Aquabats - Pizza Day

Finally some of my ska is played, I'm a total Aquabats fan, and I'm surprised why they hadn't come up sooner. Pizza Day is one of their better songs, but it's no Lovers of Loving Love.

4). Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight

I've got no witty comment, so I'll say it's a high quality song.

5). They Might Be Giants - Kiss Me, Son Of God

Not one of their better known songs, but it's catchy like fuck. Too short though, not even 2 minutes.

6). The Kinks - Father Christmas

It's one of the best Christmas songs I've heard in my life. Top 3 easily. Plus, it spreads a message everybody agrees with. Fuck Presents, just give Money.

7). Apocalypse Hoboken - Sweet Transvestite

I've never heard of the band before, but yes. That is a Rocky Horror Picture Show cover. They did it justice at least.

8). Weezer - El Scorcho

Best Weezer song there is. And it references New Jack.

9). Rocky Horror Picture Show - Science Fiction Double Feature

Yes, another RHPS song, this one the original. I'm not a big fan of this song though.

10). Pansy Division - I Can Make You a Man

3 RHPS songs in 10 songs, and 2 in a row? That's amazingly unlikely.

This cover is terrible though.

I guess it's my turn to play, cause well... I'm really bored until my girl gets home.

1. Pretty Girl (The Way) - Sugarcult

I fell in love with Sugarcult when I heard their song 'Stuck in America', so I went to find more. This one came up, and I downloaded it. Every time I listen to this song, it reminds me so much of my friend Jess. Not in the voices, but the lyrics remind me of her trials and tribulations.

2. One Emotion - Clint Black

Clint Black is one of my favorite country artists, always has been. With my recent foray into the realm of love and romance, this song has a little more meaning to me than it did when I initially acquired it. It also helps I'm a sucker for a good love song.

3. Enter Sandman - Mighty Mighty Bosstones

I really like the original version of Enter Sandman, problem is I can't usually sit through the whole song cause there's usually something I want to listen to more. This cover alleviates that problem, same song, half the time. Can't beat that... or maybe you can.

4. Brand New Key - Melanie

Yeah, I listen to a lot of older stuff too. Just a catchy little tune, that I suppose one could file as a guilty pleasure for me. I got a brand new pair of roller skates, you got a brand new key.

5. Worry Rock - Green Day

I love me some Green Day, and Worry Rock is my all time favorite Green Day song. It's a song I've never gotten tired of, no matter how many millions of times I've played it. Not the deepest song or anything, but I like it and that's what makes it good.

6. Sink the Bismarck - Johnny Horton

Johnny Horton is an artist my mom and my grandparents got me listening to. I like most of his songs, although a lot of them are songs about wars, battles, and other items involved in war. This one is one of the first of his songs I fell in love with.

7. Til Santa's Gone - Clint Black

I still love some Clint Black, and this happens to be one of my favorite Christmas songs. Although, I think it's only cause I'm a huge fan of Milk and cookies. It's a nice little song, and it stays in my playlist year all the time, just like another favorite Christmas song, "Ding-a-ling the Christmas Bell" by Conway Twitty.

8. Kansas City Star - Roger Miller

If you don't like any Roger Miller, I must question your taste in music. Sure a lot of his stuff is silly and whimsical, but it's still better than a lot of the junk on the radio. I love the inclusion of a tuba in this particular song.

9. Inside Out - Eve 6

Sometimes a song catches you with it's music, sometimes with a simple riff, other times it's a lyric. For some reason, the lyric 'wanna put my tender heart in a blender...' caught me. I had to get it, I ended up buying the CD, and wearing it out. I still grab some Eve 6 when I'm in a position I can download quickly.

10. Feel - The Immigrants

There are apparently a lot of bands called the Immigrants, this one is probably the least known. I initially heard them on a soundtrack for EA's NHL 04 (maybe it was 03), it took me months to find that song "Holding Onto This Somehow" when I found that, I grabbed this song as well. I love it almost as much as the other. I wish more people knew about this group of Immigrants.

Battlelore - Attack of the Orc

Battlelore are a Lord of the Rings themed epic metal band featuring two vocalists, the male with the gruff vocals that represents Evil, and the female which represents good. One day I walked into my local second hand CD store and found that someone had sold a lot of Power/Epic metal CD's, which I proceeded to buy up. picked up some things by Rhapsody, Manowar, Dream Evil, and this little beauty by Battlelore. I had never heard of them before, but it quickly became one of my favourite CD's. I've since picked up another album by them, but I can't get into it like I did this one. I highly recommend you check them out.

SugarComa - Into The Blue

SugarComa were the band that got me into music, oddly enough. They were a mainly female metal band, who got mildly famous off of the back of their cover of Britney Spears 'Crazy'. They were also my first live show. It was a great gig, which introduced me to two more amazing bands, Skindred and Zero Cipher. (If these two don't pop up in the next eight tracks, I recommend you check them out anyway) As for SugarComa, my interest has dwindled somewhat, and I can't recommend you purchase the albums without a listen. Maybe see if you can find them on YouTube and if it turns out to be your thing, give them a bash. They can't be more than a few quid on Amazon.

Dream Evil - The Prophecy

Dream Evil are another fantastic Epic Metal band. This is from the Dragon Slayer album which as I previously mentioned was purchased from the second hand music store. It is a wonderful album, which tells the story of Dream Evil travelling throughout the land to slay a dragon that has been tormenting the townspeople. Along the way they fight battles and generally be badass. Seen them live as well. Tiny little London venue. Great atmosphere, no merch though. I've got most of the other Dream Evil albums as well, but I still think this is my favourite.

DjBc Presents The Beastles - I Feel Fine Right Now

A guy named DjBc produced two albums worth of Beastie Boys / Beatles Mash-Ups. Google them. They're fantastic. I don't think they're up on his website anymore, but you can still find them about the place. Definately look for them.

The Almighty - Love Religion

Scottish metal band that I've never actually listened to. I'll get round to it eventually.

Linkin Park - Breaking The Habit

I didn't get into Linkin Park when everyone else did, I was quite late into accepting them. I do, however, now love them a lot. I've seen them twice, and am I a member of both the LPU and the Fort Minor Militia. Unfortunately I got so drunk at the last gig, I don't actually remember any of it... well, any of the music anyway. I remember the drinking.

Cypress Hill - Lick a Shot

Uhh, I'm not a huge Cypress Hill fan, so I don't have much to say about this. Great music, I'm sure I'd fall in love with them if I gave them a chance though. Gutted that I accidentally bought the family friendly version of IV rather than the uncensored though.

Electric 6 - Electric Demons in Love

Electric 6 are great, you can bung any song off of this album onto a road trip mixtape and people will eat it up. I think I ruined my enjoyment of it a little by listening to it non-stop for an entire summer once, but I still love it.

Disturbed - I'm Alive

Disturbed have some really militant fans. I'm not one of them. I bought all the albums the had at the time to prepare myself for a gig they had at the Astoria, but I didn't really get into them. The singles and anthems are great, but everything else just sort of becomes background noise to me.

Infectious Grooves - Savor Da Flavor

I love Infectious Grooves. They may just be the funkiest thing to ever walk the Earth. I literally can't wait the month or so until I see them live. I only have the first two albums, but they are beautiful. They're also the only band that can include skits on albums that don't piss me off. This song is from the second album, which while fantastic, isn't quite as good as the first. Check out Therapy (ft. Ozzy Osbourne) on YouTube.

Don't you hate that? I don't know about in the UK but in the US you have to look at the seal on the top part of the CD case for a tiny "EDITED" to see if it's edited or not, and more often than not you don't think to check and wind up coming away with some shitty edited CD.
