DeNiro. He's a far more versatile actor than Pacino. Granted Pacino won his Oscar for something of a comedy role, I still find DeNiro more entertaining in a comedic role than Pacino while they are equals in the dramatic field.

I've noticed that Pacino is a louder type of individual when it comes to these things while DeNiro is more stone-faced and I guess I prefer the colder, calmer role.

I'd say that they are evenly matched. If you have seen Heat, in that movie Pacino out shines by far. But DeNiro's early work with Scorsesse is priceless. Infact, if it was a battle between their earliest work I'd hand this one to DeNiro but I think the decider in this on will be the fact that Pacino produces top caliber performances, everytime all the time even after years on top. DeNiro however hasn't been in an overwhelmingly good role in a while.

At one time I would've said DeNiro but he's done so much crap over the last 10 years or so that it's taken away from his past greatness. I've got to go with Pachino.

could you explain how Deniro has done crap in the past 10 years? While I agree that movies such as City By the Sea, Cop Land, Showtime and Godsend are crap, he has been in good movies such as Heat, Ronin, Meet the Parents, Analyze This, and Jackie Brown. Also, Pacino hasn't been in the greatest movies lately either...

Any Given Sunday says hi.

Why wouldn't we compare the two actors? They were trained by the same company no? Around the same time.

Secondly, it's Pacino, not Pachino. Hoi that bothers me. It's like people who spell it as "Rick Flair"

Thirdly, DeNiro hasn't always been in crap. I personally loved 15 Minutes even though DeNiro didn't have a major role. I liked Showtime as well. As I said before, DeNiro appears to be the more versatile actor because he's done successful comedic films (more than one) and successful dramatic films as well.

I absolutely hated Meet the Parents. It just wasn't funny. I also hated Analyze That. Analyze This was okay but that sequel was just atrocious. I didn't care much for Jackie Brown either. IMO, it was the weakest of the Tarantino films by far. Ronin was okay but it didn't do too much for me. Now heat was a great movie. Overall, I haven't cared for much of what he's done lately.

Pacino had some good movies over the last 10 years. Donnie Brasco, Devils Advocate, Heat, and Any Given Sunday. Insomnia and The Recruit were okay.

Like many other people, I think both are excellent actors. However, Robert Deniro is my all-time favorite actor, simply because he has been the star or co-star of so many of my favorite movies. I adore the Travis Bickle character (Taxi Driver), probably my favorite movie character of all time. One of his earlier films "Mean Streets" that Harvey Keitel also starred in is another great film. Mean Streets is a good film to see Deniro in the early stages of his acting career. Throw in other movies such as Deer Hunter (which has another great actor in Christopher Walken, and the late John Cazale who co-starred with Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon), Raging Bull (based on the life of Boxer Jake La Motta, co-starring Joe Pesci), Casino, and Goodfellas (another two with Joe Pesci and a score of other great actors). I was particulary impressed with the way Deniro portrayed Jake La Motta in Raging Bull. After reading the book Raging Bull, you had to really commend Deniro for playing Jake La Motta's character almost to perfection.
