I used Itunes Smart Playlist feature to help me out.

1985 -

1986 - Master of Puppets (Metallica)

1987 -

1988 -

1989 - The Real Thing (Faith No More) or Pretty Hate Machine (Nine Inch Nails)

1990 -

1991 - Badmotorfinger (Soundgarden)

1992 - Rage Against The Machine (Rage Against The Machine)

1993 -

1994 - Dookie (Green Day)

1995 -

1996 - Antichrist Superstar (Marilyn Manson)

1997 - Americana (The Offspring)

1998 - The Shape of Punk to Come (Refused)

1999 - Significant Other (Limp Bizkit)

2000 - Relationship of Command (At The Drive-In) or Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence (Glassjaw)

2001 - The Fake Sound of Progress (Lostprophets) or Toxicity (System of a Down)

2002 - Scars (SOiL) or What it is to Burn (Finch)

2003 - Deja Entendu (Brand New)

2004 - Racecar is Racecar Backwards (Reuben)

2005 - From Under The Cork Tree (Fall Out Boy) or Vheissu (Thrice)

2006 - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (Brand New) or Billy Talent II (Billy Talent)

2007 - All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone (Explosions in the Sky)

2008 - Narrow Stairs (Death Cab For Cutie)

As you can see, there's a couple of years where I've got nothing, whether it's due to my tracks not being properly tagged (unlikely) or something. So I took liberties and put more than one album in a couple of other years to even out. I've got as many as my age (22), so fair's fair, I say.

Other years were a bastard to pick for. Take 2003. i've put Deja entendu, because it's one of, if not my very favourite albums of all time. But in the same year, there was Billy Talent's self-titled debut, In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth:3 by Coheed and Cambria and Funeral For a Friend's Casually Dressed and Deep in conversation, all of which pretty much defined my tastes in music. And that's not including Death Cab's Transatlantacism, Fall Out Boy's best effort in Take This to Your Grave, my first favourite UK bands in hellisforheroes (Neon Handshake) and InMe (Overgrown Eden), and I was also heavily influenced by Thrice (The Artist in the Ambulance) and Yellowcard (Ocean Avenue).

Fuck me, I used to think '01 was a great year for music, '03 beats the shit out of it, three of my top ten albums of all time.

2005 was pretty tricky too, I went with From Under The Cork Tree as it lead me into a lot of other stuff (EMO!), but it was tricky leaving out Death Cab's Plans (went with Narrow Stairs for '08 thus far so I chose not to include them twice) and They're Only Chasing Safety by Underoath (which I didn't get into until a year or so later).

YI, I find it odd you have no A Wilhelm Scream or Death Cab in your list.

Yeah, 2003 is a right bastard of a year. On top of most those you mentioned you've got a KILLER Rise Against release, The Postal Service album, quite possibly The Weakerthans' best release...and much more. 2003 is hands down my favourite year for music.

Well, thinking of the years DCFC albums could make the list;

"...Airplanes" (98) - Not going to make it, wouldn't even make my top 10 for the year, even though I probably don't have a lot of albums from that period.

"...Facts" (00) - It would be the album after SO and Alk3. Killer record, but not to the level of those two. And I didn't want to go with 3-way ties. My 3rd favourite from that year though.

"Photo Album" (01) - Good little album. Would probably be in my top 10 from this year, but not a batch on say Ben Folds, Opeth, Muse etc.

"Trans..." (03) - This 'should' be there. It's my 2nd favourite of the year, and BLOODY AMAZING! Fuck it, it's being added. Seeing as it's one of my favourite albums ever (Probably top 5). I just didn't want to put anything else in there with Muse as "Absolution" is literally my favourite album ever.

"Plans" (05) - It's a good album, definately on par with "The Photo Album". But wouldn't be in my top 10 for the year.

"Narrow Stairs" (08) - New album shine's gone a lot, whilst I really like it, and it's still hanging in the top 10 for the year (seeing as I've heard 200+ albums, fair play), I could see it out of the top 25, even lower towards 50 by the end of the year.

As for AWS, ignoring the Smackin' Isiah stuff which was canny shitty;

"Mute Print" (04) - My favourite AWS album. Would be in my top 5 for the year, but not one of my favourite two.

"Ruiner" (05) - Cracking follow up. Would probably be in my top 10, but after Jack's there's like Babyshambles, The National, Bloc Party etc.

"Career Suicide" (07) - This album's really, really grown on me after seeing a lot of the tunes played live. The melodies, vocal lines especially are obscene. But probably wouldn't hit my top 10 for the year.

I can't be bothered to think about it right now but this thread just reminds me that the world needs new TV on the Radio.

Way to ruin my day, ROC. (N)

Pfft, I'm sure they'll do something in 2009.

Ahh, grunge  .

Is Ultramega Ok any good? As in worth getting? I've put off downloading it and at £15 for a CD older than myself when new ones are like £7-9 it doesn't seem worth it. I have (and love) the other albums from Louder Than Love to Down On The Upside BTW.
