Games that are fun, but have a pain in the ass component

Anyone out there have any games you love (or loved) playing, yet it has one or two things that almost make you regret playing it or that drive you nuts?

For me, I have two:

Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance. Moloch, the midpoint boss, was so cheap it wasn't even funny, and the only character I could regularly beat him as was Johnny Cage by using the Nunchucks, plus some of the combos in the game were damn near impossible to pull off with the Dualshock controller. (Scorpion's ending also sucked)

Rogue Galaxy, which I am playing now. I traded in 5 old games (not MK:DA - I got rid of it a long time ago) for store credit and used it to pay for part of Rogue Galaxy, and its been one of the best RPGs I've played in a while. Problem is I'm about to hit the final dungeon of the game's storyline (It has two bonus dungeons you can do by re-loading the game once you beat it and save after the credits), and just consulted a strategy guide over at GameFAQs only to find out that at the end of the dungeon you have to fight about 12 boss fights in a row with no saves in between. To make matters worse, most of the boss fights are 1 on 1 fights (instead of the normal 3 characters on one boss) and the very last boss fight you use the main character with a special sword that does more dmg than usual but has a slower swing time and can't use the character's gun or abilities, just the sword and items. If you lose one of the fights you have to start all over again, and in 3 of the fights you have to block a LOT. (I plan on overlevelling my characters before I try it; the guide recommends they be at least lvl 58, but I'm going for 65)

Football games that have no concept of handball, PES5 infuriates me to this day when I have a clear goal blocked on the line with a hand.

As a rule at least one Metal Gear Solid boss will annoy me in each game due to the game grinding to a halt for a stupid heads-up. Still it doesn't RUIN the game for me though.

BEST BOSSES:

The End

Psycho Mantis

Sniper Wolf

The Sorrow

The Boss

Screaming Mantis + special guest

Liquid Ocelot

RAY vs REX (It was so pitiful the way I marked out)

WORST BOSSES:

Fatman

Metal Gear Ray army

The Pain

Colonel Volgin

Crying Wolf (broken)

Actually it's lies. MGS doesn't really have a "pain-in-the-ass" component really. I even thoroughly enjoyed all the MGS4 cutscenes.

So I must change to the Grand Theft Auto series and the way it tries so hard to squeeze in 18 certificate components here, there and everywhere.

Far Cry.

Goes from lol, weak stupid mercs to 20 shots to kill, faster than lightspeed, kill you with one swipe trigens right in the middle of a level, without warning.

Black, as was advertised, was pure unadulterated gun porn. And good gun porn at that. But the levels were too few and way to long at that. Eight levels, and all but the first (which takes approx ten minutes) last about an hour. That and the twenty million shots it takes to kill people, especially the padded shotgun dudes.

Shadow of the Colossus was good, but it's a game that once you've played it, thats it. You can't do it again. The concept of only bosses is good, but for me the galloping across an open plain with no one to battle in the mean time was quite boring.

And lol, GTA:SA's flying, that was easy. :pervert: Though I do remember the defend Zero's base thing was annoying.

You see to be forgetting Vamp on MGS2. That's annoying with this stop your shadow knives and instant death water. Oh, and dragging Emma around. FFS, silly bitch. I hated The End on MGS3, always crept up behind me and scared the crap out of me. But I use the climb up a tree branch and stand there the whole fight tactic.

Guitar Hero 3, "One", "Raining Blood". Thanks to those two I don't wanna play the game again.

EDIT: Just remembered the frogs on MGS3. Fuck off. I had EVERY SINGLE ONE, I know I did, even the ones where you're on the bike. I had to retry those sections 25 times, but I got them, I KNOW I did. But of course, they fucked me over.

EDIT 2: THAT ladder on MGS3. Y'know the one. Argh.

I dont understand how anyone could find any MGS boss like, impossible, which I think is the point of the topic? I'm not a great MGS player or anything, but the only guys I ever had trouble on was The Fear (simply because to get his stamina down to zero for his camo was really annoying) and The End because I am colour blind and can't see for shit when he's hiding.

I'm gna assume that Hammy has just spoiled the new MGS for me, the bastard. Because Idon't recall those bosses from any of the previous games.

The End was cool cos there were so many ways to kill him. You could start the battle, save the game then go back to it a week later and he'd have died of old age in the meantime! Coolios.

The best thing is to kill his parrot first, then hide out, use the mic to hear where he is and wait until he falls asleep then go find him and stun shot him a few times then he'll punch you and run off.

I loved The End cos it took me a few times to beat him, especially as once he snuck up behind me, stunned me and I ended up back in the prison which was a nice touch.....As was when it would cut to his point of view of the sniper rifle focussing on you. Groovy.

Nope, the topic title says 'pain in the ass component' and the OP says 'it has one or two things that almost make you regret playing it or that drive you nuts?'

Oh man, The End is my favourite boss of any game ever. Such a superb idea for a battle and it's just brilliant in every way. There was also another way to kill him...

There's a cut-scene earlier in the game where you're looking at a few of the bosses through your sniper rifle scope or something, I can't remember I haven't played it in forever. Anyway, if you shoot The End here you can avoid the entire battle with him but there's no fun in that because the battle is awesome.

Yeah man you can kill him while he's being wheeled away in his wheelchair. Very very cool.
