I agree. I thought Avery did a very good job with the Mavs. It isn't his fault Dirk fades when the pressure is on. :crying: With that said, did he REALLY have to go to the Nets? Couldn't he have been in the running for a better gig? But anyways, good pick up for the Nets. Now if only they could land one of the free agents this off season.

I wouldn't consider having Devin Harris (who he knows well from Dallas) and Brook Lopez to go along with the 3rd overall pick in the upcoming draft and almost enough cap room to sign two max free agents a bad gig at all, especially with a new owner who is apparently willing to spend, spend, spend.

That said, he was in the running for the Hawks job as well. But I don't know how much better that gig will be once Joe Johnson leaves (say what you will about his postseason play but who else is going to be play the 2 for them?).

How are the Nets a bad gig? Also, I'd love to be a fly on the wall for a Pokhorov/Avery Johnson conversation.

I assumed he was when he let his team know he was talking to them. I read that Chicago had offered him not too long ago and he declined, and nothing was made of it. But the fact that he told his team he was talking with Cleveland, led me to believe he was going to take the job if the offer was right.
So from the looks of it Tom Izzo to the Cavaliers is close to happening. This one actually surprises me but I guess he's just looking to go to the NBA to make a big pay check and retire in a few years?
Will be absolutely shocked if this happens. Tom Izzo is the most popular person in East Lansing, even ahead of Magic Johnson. If he goes, it's solely because he wants to fulfill a lifelong dream. But I don't know why this is a better situation than the Bulls job he could have probably accepted.

That said, if anyone can succeed in Cleveland, it'd be Tom Izzo. The hardest working coach I've ever seen, incredibly media-savvy, great teacher. Here's hoping he doesn't become the latest person to fail in the college-pro transition game.

That's part of the reason I didn't expect him to leave. He's done a hell of a job with the Spartans. Every year they make a nice little run despite never really having that 1 guy who sticks out. I'm a big fan of his. By the way....remember when there was talk of Steve Mariucci (yes...that Steve Mariucci) possibly replacing right after he left San Francisco. Of course Mariucci denied it heavily as him and Izzo go way back but I remember ESPN running with it for days.

The fact that it is the Celtics bench (And Ray Allen) making the difference in having this series tied makes me confused whether I should think they will end up winning it or they're just having fluke victories and will end up losing. Glen Davis shouldn't be the reason anybody wins a game of the NBA Finals, but he was tonight.

I'm a Knicks fan, so the absolute worst resolution to any season is a Celtics championship. Scratch that, the absolute worst would be LeBron James winning a title as a member of the Celtics :shifty:

Just be thankful that the Jazz didn't win the lottery this year with the pick your team traded. I can understand the hatred of the Celtics for a Knicks fan.....but the Lakers winning isn't acceptable under any scenario.

Don't crown Boston yet. Yeah, Kobe's in that "putting the weight of the world on his shoulders" mode and that in the past hasn't resulted in him winning. However, the last two games are at Staples and I doubt Boston is winning a Game 7 there.

They don't need to win Game 7 if they win Game 6 and I can definitely see the LA bench melting down if Kobe reverts to Ko-me status.

Now Steve Kerr is planning to leave a successful team a few weeks before they need to work out a fairly significant deal with a player. How crazy is it that Suns and Cavs won 50+ games and potentially will have had to make wholesale changes before the next season starts?
