Carling Cup Thread 2009/2010

I'd just like to point out that Nani was fantastic tonight. I say that as someone who has been a fervent hater of his over the past couple of seasons. He played well against Hull too so I hope he continues to prove me wrong.

And yes, the fans throwing stuff are cunts. As are all football fans who throw things onto the pitch/incite hooliganism, regardless of who they support.

Also the idea that it won't be an entertaining final is dumb. United/Villa games are generally fairly good in the entertainment department. I can't honestly see how a Villa/City final would be better. But hey, who cares? City aren't winning a trophy this season, and once again the highlight of their campaign will be beating us (or trying to, I fancy City to win the league game at Eastlands).

Man Utd fans have a long history of throwing stuff. Back in the 70s and 80s especially a real Man Utd speciality was to shave down the edges of coins and throw them at opposing goalkeepers.

Still, having said that it makes no difference seeing as Villa are my "go to" team if Spurs aren't involved.

I just suffered a heart-breaking loss. I can act as morally superior as I want.

And just to argue over nothing: I would say that a beer bottle hurts more than a lighter.

The lighting exploding on a face could hurt. Throwing anything is bad, don't take that route.

This has now prevented any neutrals from still being interested in the Carling Cup knowing fine well that United are going to win it.

I guess there's still the FA Cup with a vague sense of uncertainty about who will win it.

lol, shut up. We have every chance to win the final.

Uncertainty about the FA Cup? Right now it looks like Chelsea will run away with it, but it's football and anything can happen.

One hell of a game again. All three of the City/United games have been just crazy, amazing atmosphere. The coin/bottle throwing stuff was way out of line from our supporters and they no doubt deserve to be punished for it, shit like that can spoil games.

Again though, Rooney to the rescue at the end. That goal will probably be the most satisfying of the entire season (along with the Owen winner too) and it was the perfect person to score it. Just a wonderful sight to see Rooney going crazy and watching City, Tevez and their fans in disbelief. Not a dig at them or anything, it's just that these derby's feel even more important now, so getting a win is even more satisfying.

And sorry, but screw the neutrals who constantly moan whenever we make it into a final. Us and Villa are going to enjoy every minute of this. I think they'll give us one hell of a run in the final and could easily walk away winners, really looking forward to it.

Surprised to not see Rooney start, but it's a chance for Owen and Berbatov to make a statement. Although I expect to see Rooney for the majority of the second half if things aren't going to plan.

Actually expecting a really good game, Villa should give us one hell of a battle. May the best team win (Y)

Great game thus far. Vidic's foul was a red card offence I thought, let alone a yellow. Park is causing Villa's defence all kinds of problems, but Carrick is having a shocker. Feel bad for Owen. He was having a good game up to that point. Interesting that he was the one dropping off deep to collect the ball rather than Berbatov. Still hopeful that Villa can pull out the win, as United's defence looks shaky and susceptible to pace.
