BEST TV comedies

Recommended Posts

To go with the "Worst TV" thread just wondering what everyone's favourite comedy programmes are....

Don't forget to slag off the deserving bad programmes in that other thread though!

So, I really love....

'Allo 'Allo

Fawlty Towers

The Day Today

Father Ted

Monty Python's Flying Circus

Peep Show

Morcambe and Wise show

Teachers

Outlaws

Never Mind the Buzzcocks (with Mark Lamarr)

Shooting Stars / Smell of Reeves and Mortimer / Bang Bang

Black Books

Nathan Barley

Futurama

Garth Marenghi's Dark Place

Brasseye

Armando Iannucci show

Screenwipe

Mighty Boosh series 1

Probably loads of stuff I've missed...

Also, I have a real soft spot for Spaced but I've not laughed out loud watching it in years.

I'd be here a while naming all my favourites, but recently it's been Peep Show and The Inbetweeners, two right at the top of my all-time list. Probably because they're so realistically written that they remind me of my own shit life, both now and back at school. :P

But off the top of my head - Fawlty Towers, Friends, Futurama, The Office (original) and American Dad, and Family Guy has its moments too.

Father Ted

One Foot in the Grave

The Simpsons

Monty Python's Flying Circus

Futurama

Bottom

Shooting Stars

Big Train

Fast Show

The Peter Serafinowicz Show

Dinnerladies

Red Dwarf

Blackadder

Spaced

Screenwipe

The IT Crowd

Basically, anything that isn't ripping off The Office's awkward atmosphere is great.

I have DVD's of:

South Park (all)

Family Guy (1-5)

The League Of Gentleman (all)

Arrested Development (all)

Father Ted (all)

Time Gentleman Please (all)

Blackadder (all)

Garth Merenghi's Darkplace

Brass Eye

The Day Today

Peep Show (1-3)

And possibly some more. Family Guy aside, I'm a big fan of all the others on the list, Family Guy more often than not getting an airing if there's nothing better on. I also really like Fraiser, which is awesome when they air it on Channel 4 of a morning, because it gives me something to watch at work.

I love the earlier seasons of Scrubs and they were a great bonding point with folk. I am really diminished in my big programming loves, but NewsRadio was beyond phenomenal television. The first four seasons with Phil Hartman in awesome mode were just phenomenal. It just hit on all cylinders, especially the absurd "in space" and "on the Titanic" episodes. The first three seasons of Always Sunny were also can't miss, although I haven't gotten the excitement over the last two years. Hmmm. Others are a bit tougher, quite honestly.

Completely forgot that I have all Scrubs that is available on DVD in the UK. Very easy to watch, thrown on a lot when there is nothing better on.

Mock The Week, (now up it's own arse, but it has its moments.)

Where's the love for Big Train?

Peep Show

The Office (UK)

The Day Today

The Daily Show

Arrested Development

Family Guy (although the latest seasons the writing is just lazy)

Garth Marengi's Darkplace

Who's line is it anyway?

Mock the Week is one of the few things I make a concerted effort to watch every week because, while people complain that it's gone downhill and Andy Parsons is crap and so on so forth, it never fails to make me laugh and I enjoy that. Much of the same goes for Whose Line Is It Anyway and Have I Got News For You, although there are rather a lot of games in the former that I don't find particularly entertaining unless they go off the rails or really hit a groove (Hoe Down, Irish Drinking Song, Greatest Hits...really, the ones involving sings).
