Definitely was a Grizzly Bear year for me. If there was another month in the year, they definitely would have had been my top artist for the year. Michael Jackson got a healthy amount of spins before he died, as well as obviously after he died and recently as well. Really enjoyed a lot of more pop acts - Lady Gaga, Kid Cudi, MJ, Hot CHip, as well as liked some more eccentric stuff from Grizzly Bear, A&J, M.I.A.. Good year of music listening.

I remember the last song that I heard in 2008 and the first I heard in 2009 was "Handbag & the Gladrags" by Stereophonics as it was the last song on the album and was halfway through at midnight.

The last song I heard in 2009 was I think "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. In the club I was in, they stopped the music, did a countdown, then put "Killing in the Name" on for the first song of 2010.

According to Last.FM too (data from http://troublewithdreams.com/scrobbler/):

7. The Exies 931

8. Blind Melon 914

9. Nickelback 841

10. Alice in Chains 837

To be honest, I barely listened to Blind Melon after March, I just listened to them A LOT between January and February.

8. Faith No More - The Real Thing 378

9. Pearl Jam - Vs. 375

I'm not sure how accurate my last.fm is, it seems to have gone a bit mad since I started scrobbling from my iPod, and that's pretty much the only thing I've listened to music on since June of last year, except maybe listening to a CD at work every now and then. But according to Last.fm, anyway, this is what I listened to the most of in 2009;

Artists

1. Tom Waits

2. Scott Walker

3. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

4. The Lucksmiths

5. The Housemartins

6. Sparks

7. Jake Thackray

8. Television Personalities

9. Jonathan Richman

10. Bruce Springsteen

The Fall, Julian Cope, Half Man Half Biscuit, Bob Dylan and David Bowie all just miss out. Though I know I listened to more David Bowie than last.fm thinks I did.

Songs:

1. The Guild League - Good Times

2. McLusky - Forget About Him, I'm Mint

3. Beasts Of Bourbon - Psycho

4. The Blue Rondos - Little Baby

5. Television - Venus

6. The Housemartins - Flag Day

7. Television Personalities - All My Dreams Are Dead

8. The Fall - A Day In The Life

9. Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Darkstalker

10. The Gossip - Careless Whisper

An odd little list, that. The Guild League one is surprising, though I did listen to it an awful lot around the time I first started buying Guild League stuff. A lot of this seems to be artists I only have, or only really listen to, one or two tracks by, whereas my "Top Artists" were more bands who I'd sit and listen through an album. The Blue Rondos are a bit of an oddity up there, but I'll put that down to the fact that I listened to a few Joe Meek compilation albums over the course of the year, and that track is obviously one that just made it up there slightly above the rest. The Gossip's another curious one, no idea how that managed it.

How on earth do you go about finding out what albums you've listened to the most?

Flight of the Conchords

Stone Temple Pilots

Tenacious D

Friendly Fires

Ladyhawke

Pearl Jam

Goldie Lookin' Chain

The Gaslight Anthem

Alice in Chains

Orange Goblin

That list shows exactly how often I listen to music on my laptop....not very often.

Off the top of my head.

Bands:

Impellitteri

Rage

Axxis

Really just got more into Rage and Impellitteri last year. I bought eight Rage CDs in 2009 alone, favourites are probably Perfect Man, Trapped!, XIII and Soundchaser. Impellitteri has been a constant favourite for a bit longer, but the new one really kept my attention.

Albums:

Impellitteri - Wicked Maiden (2009)

Blaze Bayley - The Man Who Would Not Die (2008)

Chris Caffery - House of Insanity (2009)

Blaze's latest really kept me busy especially in the early parts of the year. The best album of 2008, in my opinion. I already preordered the new one, Promise and Terror, from his website.

Some interesting things that I've noticed is that every single one of Sugarplum's Fairy plays came in December as that is when I discovered them. Could have easily been top 3 if I was listening to them for the whole year. Senor And The Queen being 9th on my album chart is stunning when you consider that it's a 4 song EP.
