I just learned something interesting!

Prior to 1970, the Montreal Canadiens were granted a unique concession on the day of the amateur draft. They were allowed to draft the top two French-speaking prospects each year. With that concession ended in 1970, the Buffalo Sabres were able to draft Gilbert Perreault. There was no longer a provision for Montreal to select draft choices by way of culture. First choice in the draft went to the last-place team in the expansion (Western) division.

Silly Canadians.

Curious story on TSN.

the club now has a policy which prohibits any player from keeping a Facebook account.

This makes it seem

1. Like it wasn't a random person as they described, but rather was actually Schenn.

2. Even more likely to happen.

Even if the Rangers and Sabres go 0-2-1 from here out, the Leafs won't make it. 3-0-0 from Toronto, and 0-3-0 from the NY area...Oh, AND Carolina needs to trip n fall. 1-1-1 or worse. 2-1-0 is bad, as is 2-0-1. 3-0 is right out.

And the Leafs are done...it sucks, but dammit, I was calling the end of the season in December. This team surprised me...this season wasn't a complete let down.

Here is hoping Reimer can keep the amazing play next year!

I was on the Fire Wilson band wagon not long ago. I just hope Reimer can be a solid goaltender over a full season. League average goaltending for a full season would have probably put this Leafs team into a playoff spot.

Now...who do I root for in the post season? It has to be a Western team.

So, I got bored last night and took a look at CapGeek.com to see what my Flames would look like going into next year... and then I ended up doing a projected roster, look at UFAs and what I'd like to see the roster look like on opening day.

Rene Bourque / Daymond Langkow \ Jarome Iginla

Niklas Hagman / Matt Stajan \ David Moss

Tom Kostopoulos / Olli Jokinen \ Raitis Ivanans

TBA / Mikael Backlund \ Tim Jackman

UFAs: Tanguay, Glencross, Modin, Morrison

Jay Bouwmeester / Robyn Regehr

Cory Sarich / Mark Giordano

TBA / TBA

UFAs: Staios, Babchuk, Pardy

RFAs: Mikkelson, Carson

Miikka Kiprusoff

UFAs: Karlsson

$6.134 remaining cap space for 2011-12.

Tanguay at $2.7

Glencross at $2.2

Babchuk at $2.4

Pardy at $1.4

Karlsson at $1.0

To fill out roster puts the team over the cap.

Niklas Hagman is set to make $3 million in the final year of his deal.

Could be moved.

Jay Bouwmeester at $6.8 for 3 more years.

Eating cap space and not providing anything the team doesn't get elsewhere.

No trade could make it difficult.

Miikka Kiprusoff at $5.8 for 3 more years isn't getting any younger.

The window may be closing for him in Calgary.

No movement clause makes it hard to move him, not that they'd want to.

Greg Nemisz and Lance Bouma on entry level deals are ready to step into the lineup at forward.

John Negrin and TJ Brodie could be ready for NHL duty next season on the back end.

Recent signee/draft pick Joni Ortio could potentially step in as back-up to Kipper in the event that Karlsson is not re-signed.

UFAs of Interest:

Michael Ryder

Steve Sullivan

Pascal Dupuis

John Madden

Maxime Talbot

Ideally, roster looks like:

Alex Tanguay / Mikael Backlund \ Jarome Iginla

Rene Bourque / Olli Jokinen \ Curtis Glencross

Niklas Hagman / Daymond Langkow \ David Moss

Tom Kostopoulos / Matt Stajan \ Tim Jackman

Scratches: Brendan Morrison, Raitis Ivanans

Mark Giordano / Robyn Regehr

Cory Sarich / Adam Pardy

Anton Babchuk / Steve Staios

Scratch: Brendan Mikkelson

Miikka Kiprusoff

Henrik Karlsson

but moving Hagman or Stajan, or both, opens up cap space for UFAs of Interest.

Ryder could bounce back and be a 20-goal scorer again playing with Bourque and Jokinen.

Sullivan would work well in any position.

Dupuis, Madden and Talbot are all 3/4 centers with great PK skills.
